do most people actually have a thing in their brain that tells them to drink water before their mouth goes dry and they have a headache. is that real. i have been told that headache is not supposed to be the primary sign of being thirsty but that sounds fake to me.

This house. It was built in 1822 in Lynchburg, VA, but they renovated it in 2020 and wanted to make it authentic. I don't know what to think. 4bds, 3ba, 4,368sqft, $1.6m.
They spared no expense. At least in wallpaper. I somehow suspect that they didn't have that tile in 1822, so they took some creative license.
The first room off the hall is the dining room. They did have murals like this in homes of that era, and look at the large fireplace. But, I question their paint and wood stain choices.
On the other side of the hall there's the reception room. Faux marble finish on the fireplace. The carpeting was also a choice.
And, the smoking room off the dining room. There's another staircase in here.
The 2nd floor landing.
Not sure what sort of faux finish is on the fireplace. Is it supposed to look like stone?
Look at all the other stairs.
Interesting bath even has a fireplace.
A door in the hall opens to this lovely terrace.
Very large bedroom. I'm wondering if this was a ballroom.
The other stairs in the hall lead to a finished attic.
This is unusual, b/c the kitchen is on a lower floor.
It probably was on the ground floor, originally, and usually, it's been relocated to the main floor.
Because this actually looks like the original kitchen cooking hearth.
And, there's this lovely brick family room down here, too.

everyone's talking about the ibs/autism haha funny comparison thing while I'm still stuck on the concept that hamsters exist in the wild. like naturally
tf do you mean they're a wild creature. you find those ankle-biters at the pet store
Not a biologist, but the evolution of mammals is way more granular than you might expect. Humans are the sole surviving species of the genus Homo, which was a real party before the other ones went extinct. You're in for a fun time.
Domestic cats are believed to be domesticated not from tigers, but from the African wildcat:
Which evolved to be small just because it's sometimes more useful to be small.
And no, hamsters are not off-brand rats. They're part of the rodent order, which includes beavers, moles, capybaras, guinea pigs (yes, also wild) and lots of other fun things:

Sometimes it’s hard to read fanfic when you’re studying herbalism.. when they have the character preparing a tincture to use that same DAY!!?
Baby those dried herbs need to sit in that jar with high proof alcohol for at LEAST a month!
That’s why before the use of calendars ppl use to prepare their tinctures either on the new moon or full moon. A a full moon cycle is usually 28 days or so. And they would give the moon names so it’s easier to remember when/what month said tincture was bottled.
This is also why herbal medicine is prepare in small batches. You have to take your time preparing your bottles. Making sure everything is clean so you don’t end up with mold. Diluting your grain alcohol. Heckkk knowing when to pick your herbs for max potency! Drying your herbs! That takes a lot of time too!
we bought a shirt at a thrift store that says "best mom in louisiana" for some reason (as a reminder we are in midwest germany) and now my spouse keeps walking around the house wearing it and saying shit like "WHO STANDS BEFORE THE GREATEST MOM OF LOUISIANA?"
text: [ “Some of you have forgotten that only three years ago you were perfectly capable of writing an essay, writing a eulogy, telling a bedtime story to a child, and it should worry you that powerful companies have convinced us we can’t do things we’ve been doing for 5000 years.” ]
Want y'all to know that when I refer to "the GPT" I'm not referring to ChatGPT, I'm referring to Gunpowder Tim and how he will one day kill all of those robots and fascists up on the moon with it's kaiser

ID: A youtube comment with 11 likes by Niceone, it says "I've lived 46 years without knowing this. How nice of life to save some of the best bites for later." End ID.
Normally, people tend to get frustrated, even jokingly, if they miss out on something. This comment was on a song from 1974 and it made me smile quite much. Simply appreciative. Like a dessert after dinner.
It is genuinely mind blowing to me just how many Tumblr posts have changed my life for the better and taught me to be happier. Not all of the thoughts originate on Tumblr, but the way people collect and frame them has literally changed my brain chemistry.
DM: The hot spring isn't a bubble bath.
Goblin Barbarian: Not yet it's not! I'm adding bubbles to it.
DM: No, I mean, the water is still. For bubbles, it needs to be agitated.
Goblin Barbarian: Yeah! What's more agitating than me??

Something I haven't seen many people talk about in PHM is the fact that Eridians probably don't have the same attitudes towards time as humans do. Think about it: Erid is an inherently dayless place, having an atmosphere that allows no light and thus no concept of day or night. We don't really think much about how our entire lives are structured around this cycle that Earth life has been experiencing for eons. Erid life has no concept of this at all. Eridian sleep schedules are somewhat irregular and not synced to each other (they can't be, not if someone always stays awake to watch). They don't track birthdays like we do, they can't unless they're paying attention to their solar cycle, which I'd expect is a relatively new thing for their culture. Maybe they base age on their near-perfect memories or how many layers their carapace has or how big they are, or experiences/accomplishments. They may have an idea of an Eridian year, if their planet has seasons or something like that, but I doubt it has a whole lot of importance to them.
I'd image having an alien who relies so heavily on cycles and repeated patterns in order to function normally would be mind-boggling to the Eridians. What do you mean it celebrates the exact day of its birth every so often, just because? Wait we need to program a reliable change in light levels to simulate its planet, which has almost no atmosphere? And we have to schedule any interactions we have with it around this cycle? Wait it tracks its age by the scientific year, not by life experience and physical aging?
Constantly being reminded that this guy Rocky brought home that saved their entire planet is, in fact, a complete alien.
