idk I've just been watching a lot of compilations of people having good or weird reflexes and I need to see / hear about this more with living weapons because they probably would have really excellent, if not superhuman, reflexes.

When caretaker cries for their wounds, they ask if caretaker is crying because they're hurt.

"Why are you crying?"

"..What?"

"If you're hurt, you should tell the doctor."

Caretaker: …This is standard humane treatment for POWs. As required by international law?

Who understands that they're supposed to bow their head when demeaned and humiliated but doesn't feel upset.

Who knows, logically, that they're being deprived of basic needs, but feels like they can manage alright without.

Who flinches in anticipation of pain and then sighs, exasperated, at their own reaction- they should be used to it by now.

All it took was a single, light-hearted punch to the arm to make Villain flinch. Her and Youngest were messing around, joking and having a bit of banter, and Youngest lightly hit her. It wasn't serious. And yet, Villain's nerves were set ablaze, memories of the team beating her black and blue coming to the forefront of her mind, and she just couldn't help it… She flinched. And it was noticeable.

"Villain?" Youngest asked, uncertain.

Villain tried to laugh it off. "Yeah, what? What's with that face? I'm fine!"

So they rehearse to themselves as they trudge in the direction of safety, repeating their injuries in a slurred mumble until they're exhausted. Finally, finally they reach a town, or flag down a car, or get back to whoever they were separated from, but to their horror it's been so long that all their careful rehearsal falls out of their mind completely and all they can manage is "I'm really cold and something hurts and I think I hit my head..."

“What are you talking about? You—“

“I sold my soul and broke my body for your prophecy. If you need for someone to do this for you, look somewhere else.”

growing up in poverty

losing a close loved one to a sickness over an extended amount of time

bullying in school

exposure to unsafe environments (warzones, drug scene, …)

parentification

going undiagnosed for a long time

growing up in politically unstable environments

emotional neglect

witnessing a natural disaster

betrayed by a trusted person of authority (parents, teacher, mentor, …)

being the glass child

social exclusion

loving parents who just did not have the time for them

The job whumpee always struggled to complete? New team member aced it. That one mentor whose approval whumpee never seemed to quite gain? Yeah, they act like a parental figure for the new team member now. Whumpee tries to help when their usual skillset is needed? Oh, don’t strain yourself, you should rest. The newest team member already knows how to do your job.

Whumpee starts feeling resentful and angry, at the new team member, at the team, at themself. Did they even miss whumpee? Why did they get replaced this easily? Do they even care that Whumpee is back?

Whumpee starting to wonder how they can regain the favor. Maybe by being cruel and hurtful to the new member, trying to get rid of them. Or maybe whumpee leaves without another word, assuming they won't be missed.

(They are so, so wrong.)
