Loved this landscape on SNW today, I'm def stealing it for my own worldbuilding
With the knowledge that Vulcan has regularly high winds & subsequent sandstorms I propose a type of guy: midwestern dads watching tornadoes but for Vulcans. Somebody's uncle Sovar standing outside with his hands on his hips watching a massive cloud roll closer. Unconcerned because this happens, like, every couple of weeks. He's like "this one is large, is it not" yes it is go back inside Sovar
The one Vulcan aspect Kirk can excel at.
Kirk: āOh yeah Iām from Iowa. Itās part of something called tornado alley.ā
Spock: āWhereās the captain? The storm is getting worse.ā
Crewman: āHeās out there with the other Vulcans. He told us to wait in the shuttle.ā
Bill Shatner is all āSpirk isnāt canon !! you guys are so stupid !! theyāre just friends !!ā Baby then what was all that you were doing every week for three years in a row⦠were you actually just really in love with Leonard Nimoy because thatās the only other explanation i can think of
Referring to temporal displacement drives as āweft drivesā because they travel perpendicular to warp drives.
Corollary: travel to another universe is perpendicular to both space and time. Whatās perpendicular to both warp and weft? Thatās right, the pile. Anyway, letās go now to the mirror universe where the Intendant is powering up her- oh. oh my.

Every so often if Iām feeling down I remind myself that Erid and Vulcan canonically orbit the same star, 40 Eridani A, ergo during the events of phm they shared a single Petrova line.
So that means Rocky and Grace are the historical figures who saved Vulcan from extinction.
Since Maryās ship logs were dispersed and studied, I like to imagine that Vulcans think of Rocky and Grace with a sort of reverence. Maybe they have statues of them in the Katric Ark. In the Kelvin timeline, after the events of Nero, the old symbols and statues are resurrected on New Vulcan, this time with some new additions.
And that is how the city center of New Shikahr ends up having four prominent statues; an Eridian and a Terran who saved Vulcanās planet, and a Vulcan and his Terran Captain who could not save the planet but managed to preserve Vulcan culture along with the Elders and save as many lives as they could which allowed the Vulcan race to avoid extinction once again.
Bonus HC: Jim and Spock argue for years over whether Grace was more prominently a ship captain or a science officer, both wanting to claim him as one of their own. Scotty always happily reminds them that the real hero was the engineer who saved him.
Just a silly crossover that wouldn't leave my mind
I will find you in every life (threat)
I am forever fascinated by the arms race between coelurosaurs and ceratopsians. Among the most famous rivals in palaeomedia growing up was Velociraptor and Protoceratops, Tyrannosaurus and Triceratops, and of course I had to add two of my faves, Gorgosaurus and Styracosaurus!
Long time followers may recognise the bottom two skulls as art I have made previously, fun fact I have been sitting on this idea for a little over two years!
"But it seems I've missed you. I don't know if I could stand to lose you again."
spock and bones scene redraw
i will never be over the fact that during first contact a human offered their hand to a vulcan and the vulcan was just like āwow humans are fucking wildā and took it
Humanityās first contact with Vulcans was some guy goingĀ āIām down to fuck.ā
Vulcansā first contact with Humans was an emphaticĀ āSure.ā
@sineala
#iiiiiiiiiiiiii mean vulcans had been watching humans for a long time#they knew the significance of a handshake but still#they had to find some fast and loose ambassador#willing to fuckin make out with a human for the sake of not offending them on first contact#lmao#star trek give me the story of this fast and loose vulcan
āsirā¦theseā¦these humansā¦they greet each other byā¦ā *glances around before furtively whispering* āby clasping handsā¦ā
*prolonged silence*Ā āoh myā¦ā
āsirā¦sir how will we make first contact with them? surely weā¦we cannot refuse this handclasping ritual, they will take it as an insult, but what vulcan would agree to such a distasteful and uncomfortable ritual??ā
*several pensive moments later*Ā ācontact the vulcan high command and tell them to send us kuvak. i once saw that crazy son of a bitch arm wrestle a klingon, heāll put his hands on anythingā
Elsewhere, w/ kuvak: āā¦.my day has come.ā
The vulcanĀ who made first contact with humans is named Solkar guys. Yāall just be makinā up names for characters that already have names.
Bonus: hereās a screencap of Solkar doing the āmy body is readyā pose right before he shakes Zefram Cochraneās hand:
I swear Vulcans only come in two types and they areĀ ādistant xenophobesā orĀ āhorny on main for humanityā. Also apparently this guy is Spockās great-grandfather and frankly that explains everything.
Hey so I looked into this at one point and that handshake literally created a lifelong telepathic bond between the two of them, and basically all of Solkarās descendants were later obsessed with humans, including freaking SPOCK, so Iām not saying that handshake was so gay and good that it created an intergenerational telepathic bond between Solkarās descendants and humans, but Iām also notā¦.notā¦.saying that.
actual footage of first contact makeouts
The slow deliberation with which Solkar takes CockraneāsāIām sorry, Cochraneāsāhand⦠The sheer sensuality witch which Solkar infuses an otherwise borderline impersonal social ritual⦠It clearly shows a very conscious knowledge, on Solkarās part, of what the significance of the handshake is in Vulcan terms and of how affected he is by it.
Thatās why heās so slow in doing it, andĀ so sensual. A part of Solkar canāt believe this is happening, despite it being a perfectly logical thing to expect from a human, and the rest of him canāt believe how good it is.
I bet that if the camera zoomed in any further we would see the dilation of Solkarās pupils and a quickly-repressed shiver of delight. Cochraneās firm, businesslike clasp is probably (in sexual terms) being perceived as a deliciously carnal display of dominance.
No wonder Solkar is all like,Ā āTAKE ME, YOU WILD-MANNERED BARBARIAN WITH ENTICINGLY ROUGH CALLUSES.ā
And so we find out that yes, there is such a thing as bottoming in Pon-farr.
Every time this post comes round my dash, it just gets better.
#somehow the idea of vulcans being Horny On Main always gives me the giggles#like literally all they had to do#was be like actually#hand contact is very intimate for our species#and im p sure humanity as a whole would not find that insurmountably weird#there are human cultures that dont shake hands#vulcans are logical enough to think that through on their own#so clearly that vulcan was just down to fuck#down to fuck in a public#professional diplomatic situation no less#and he did not fucking care who knew itĀ (via kittykatthetacodemon)
Some Vulcan: we could probably just explain that handshakes are intimate in our culture
Solkar, rubbing lip gloss on his hand: donāt tell me how to do my jobĀ
This is my favourite Star Trek post, complete with headcanons, corrections, the truth coming out of her well to shame Spock even. Seriously perfect fandom work.
They could have explained none of it and responded to the offered hand with a polite bow. First contact was gonna be with the guy who proved they were technologically ready for it but any human aware of Japan and China would recognise that

"you can't pick and choose what you like from canon" common misconception! yes you can
but please do not get this very true concept confused with āyou cannot pick and choose what is canonā
they are two very different things.
thank you for this addition seriously
I really love deaf Scotty and his hearing aids but people NEED to learn about Bones being colorblind, and lobster vision Spock seeing more colors than humans
"When I feel friendship for you... I'm ashamed" WE ARE IN THE FOURTH EPISODE GENTLEMEN

I want better for Sybok.
I want a world where he got a fighting chance to do anything but become a cult leader. Iāve seen aus where he becomes a counselor and I canāt stop thinking about it.
No gods, no Sha-Ka-Ree, no cult. Just a kid who knows his history. Who researches Surak, and the world before him, and finds himself dissatisfied with present day Vulcanās interpretations of his teachings. Unable to see the logic in following one ancient manās words with no additional input or thought. Is this truly the best way for them to live? His mother didn't think so. He doesn't think so either.
Heās young, and he has big ideas and a lot of charisma, and a lot of inner pain from losing his mother and being suddenly told the way she was raising him was wrong. He quickly earns a reputation as a troublemaker. Indulging in blatant displays of emotionalism, just to prove his point, that he smiled and nothing bad happened, he cried and he felt better after.
Heās dissatisfied and ostracized and convinced thereās a better way to be living.
He fucks off at 18-not quite banished, but so strongly encouraged to leave that he might as well have been-and goes to a college on Earth, because the federation is a post-scarcity society so he has his basic needs met and he just wants to figure himself out, and where better to do that than a college campus, as far away from Vulcan society as possible. On his step-mother's home planet, where he knows at least a little of the culture, the language, what to expect.
He sees the school counselor a lot, and gets a lot out of their sessions. Takes some psychology courses and ends up getting really passionate about it.
Teaches himself to embrace his emotions while acknowledging that itās very easy to be ruled by them. Utilizes aspects of traditional Vulcan control combined with the human practice of mindfulness to understand his emotions and control his strong impulse to act on them, without completely rejecting them. Knows he is choosing not to control his emotions, but he can and should control the actions he takes in response to them to avoid hurting himself or others. Knows that understanding why he feels a certain way can help him understand himself better.
Lives his best life and studies psychology to help other people find the same joy and peace he has, in whatever form that takes for them.
Then he finds out his baby bro basically told the VSA to fuck off and that dad more or less disowned him for joining Starfleet. Feels so damn proud of him for standing up the their parents like that.
Reunites with his brother after years of separation.
Itās rocky at first, but after both being disowned theyāre all the family the other has left now, and they both do really care about each other.
Spock doesnāt understand Sybokās choices, but he doesnāt need to understand them to respect them; Sybok is clearly still exercising some degree of control over himself, he even still meditates, heās just controlling himself less, and differently, and his mind is more at peace than itās ever been before. Sybok doesnāt really understand Spockās continued dedication to logic either, but he respects it too, because clearly it still means something to Spock in a big way.
They make peace with each other, and their differences, and with the fact that their parents and society have rejected them. That Sybok did everything āwrongā and Spock did everything ārightā and yet they both ended up in the same place; on Earth, with mom ignoring their calls, because she loved them both but she loves her husband more.
And ultimately he enrolls in Starfleet medical to become a ships counselor, because he still takes great joy in doing things he knows dad would hate, and because he wants to specialize in trauma and grief counseling and Starships need a lot of that, and because getting a new perspective on life from being around humans helped him a lot and heās rejected a lot of philosophy that he found unhelpful but IDIC is something he still believes in; he wants to be around as many different ideas and perspectives as he can to improve himself and his practice, and Starfleet is a great way to do that.
Getting to follow his only remaining family into space is just a bonus.
