A light flashes and a car rumbles to a stop next to him. A dark haired man gets out.

“Sam?” the man calls out. He’s got blue eyes. Dean rolls the window down to respond but he doesn’t get an opportunity.

“Dean? Dean, oh, thank God, Dean. I’m so glad to see you. Are you hurt? Where are Sam and Rowena? I came as soon as I could.”

Blue Eyes opens the door, inviting himself in and crowding Dean’s space as if he’d done this a million times. He gestures for Dean to slide over, and he does. Dean doesn’t think he’s the type to allow random men into his car, and certainly not the type to allow them to manhandle him. But… maybe it’s intuition, maybe it’s something else. Whatever it is, Dean trusts him.

“They said you got hit by some sort of spell and you’re having trouble remembering, is that true? I’m supposed to be here as ‘emotional support’ whatever that means,” Blue Eyes continues, flashing air quotes.

The man turns to face Dean who stares blankly back at him, mouth hanging open, heart racing.

“Sorry, this is— this is a little embarrassing,” Dean chuckles nervously. “Wh-who are you exactly?”

It’s the wrong thing to say. Hurt flashes across the man’s features. “Oh,” is all he says, flatly.

“No, sorry, I didn’t— I didn’t mean t-to offend you or anything. You’re just… you’re….” Dean feels like he’s on fire. “It’s… th— it’s your… spell. Or, no, that’s not it. It’s not your spell. I mean, maybe it is, I don’t— What I m-mean to say is— is—“

Jesus Christ. There’s something wrong with him. Like, there’s that memory spell, or whatever, and then there’s whatever is causing Dean to stumble over his words like a teenager talking to his crush at his first ever dance. He is a grown ass man. What the fuck.

“It’s okay. My name is Castiel,” the man says plainly.

“The angel,” Dean says, already unconsciously reaching toward his shoulder.

“Yes.”

“Cas.”

Cas glances over at him, then resolutely away, choosing to fix his gaze at a bird building its nest.

Dean stares in silence at Cas’s profile until he turns toward him. Dean gives a shy smile when he does.

“What is it?” Cas asks.

“Can I kiss you?”
