There's a conversation I keep having to have with a friend of mine, apparently, where I will talk about how there's some influential figure I don't like for one moral reason or another, and they impress upon me immediately how much that person does for charity.

And I must insist to them every time, that's great but my affections and inclination to turn a blind eye to the BAD things they do, can't be fucking bought.

So I want to take the time to point out that someone doing a lot for charity doesn't inherently make them a good person if they're ALSO doing things to fuck up the world or the people around them. Charity is just an exceptionally convenient way for people with expendable money to try and purchase your favor.

#as it were I do not begrudge the charity itself #no matter the motivations more good in the world is still more good in the world
