PC GAMERS ITS YOUR TIME
You ruined a perfectly hot middle aged man by giving him abs
Your 'in the spirit that i crave' verse is hands down the best fanfiction I've ever read and I've been reading fanfic for over ten years, it's an amazing series! I can't tell you how many times I've re-read it! I was just wondering, are you planning on going back to it, or should we consider it finished? Either way, you've created a fantastic work of art and I can't thank you enough for it!
hello anon! thank you so much for the kind words, it made me really happy to hear how much you enjoyed the series <3 to answer your question, yes, i am going to finish it eventually. i cannot give any kind of timeline at the moment (the vagaries of life, etc etc), but i do not consider it finished or plan on abandoning it.
i feel like i've mentioned it in one author's note or another, but there is one final multi-chapter fic planned for after sunshine, as well as several shorter works within the series. sunshine itself also still has one last chapter plus an epilogue.

what inspired the ending for obua, if anything? i sit awake at night wondering what would have happened if it ended differently… not that i dont LIKE the ending, its perfect and i love them, but i sometimes dream of an alternate ending or a bad one. if that makes sense. ok
hello anon, thank you for the ask! the ending for oh bury us alive was largely influenced by 1) my desire to do the 'came back wrong' trope as well as 2) my love for ambiguous endings. i knew from the start that i wanted an ending where it was up to the reader exactly how bleak they wanted it to be (basically: is it possible for Ethan to recover or will he just get worse).
initially i had also toyed with the idea of making it worse outright. at one point i had thought of doing a sort of epilogue that implied Chris/Hound Wolf was coming to investigate the manor (and by extension Ethan) which would not have ended well for any party involved. also thought about making the ending less ambiguous (in a bad end way), but figured the fic was rough enough on its own lmao.
i will say that i'd never considered a happy ending for this fic, which was largely because i did want to go hard with the 'came back wrong' aspects. and going hand in hand with that, it was also important that there be a kind of horror to the ending that Karl and the reader got but that Ethan didn't.
anyway, i'm really happy to know that you're thinking about this fic! i'd also love to hear the alternate endings you've come up with if you felt like sharing c:
SO I READ A FIC RECENTLY.
this is just a buncha fanart i made for it that i thought id post here, its called "in the spirit that i crave" (its a series so ill just link the first part), here it is on ao3 but its not being updated on there anymore so also here it is on the site the author uses now, ANYWAY IT WAS SOSO GOOD N I JUST HAD TO DRAW SUM SCENESSS + a doodle page lol
theres one of a part in "all i need is some sunshine" (pt7), a little idea of what itd look like if in "meet me in the forest" (pt2) karl n ethan actually DID mary poppins their way up using the hammer lol, n also did a comic rendition of a scene from "retail therapy" (pt 6) that i found rlly funny :]]
muppet christmas carol ~ (happy holidays!)
every year around spotify wrapped season people start posting about alternative streaming services you could use, but i never see anyone talking about how you dont need to use streaming services at all? plus i really dont think deezer and tidal etc are paying that much more to artists that spotify is. like it simply isnt a sustainable business method
at the start of this year i started looking for a way to listen to music off spotify and i actually went through a lot of methods, here is a non exhaustive list
methods for listening
just store music locally on your phone
i have a completely terrible old android phone i got used, and it has 256 gigabytes of space, plus a micro sd card holder which i put a 256 gb card in. thats so much fucking space. i think i have around 10.000 songs on my phone and it's not even a third full. i use foobar2000 for playing music but whatever native music player you have will definitely work. or vlc media player my best friend vlc
ibroadcast
i think one of my mutuals recommended ibroadcast but i dont remember who, sorry! what ibroadcast does basically, is that it has a webplayer you can upload music to from your laptop, and an associated app you can use to listen to that same music on your phone. i would still recommend storing your music locally on your laptop or something but it's good for syncing your devices and stuff. the free version only lets you stream at 128kpbs which hasnt been an issue for me
digital audio player
is what youre supposed to call mp3 players now, since they can play a lot more types of formats than just mp3. i got a snowsky echo mini for my birthday in may, and it is cheap and cute but it has absolutely fuck all going for it otherwise. honestly there are way better ones on the market but im kind of fond of how bad it is. if the file has any metadata it doesnt recognize (like a composer listed for example) it chucks the thing in the unknown folder, so whenever i download any music i have to spend an hour editing the tags
this is the option for the nerds who like to fiddle with things, i would recommend going on r/DAP to look at people's reviews and maybe get a better one than mine
cracked version of youtube music
sure, you could do this. metrolist is a pretty good client i would recommend but it is the boring option for the coward
where to get music from
bandcamp
a lot of people's issue with leaving spotify is that they havent developed a sense for discovering new music. bandcamp is great for this. it has an album of the day, the discover feed has genres youve never heard of, and you can stalk the profiles of people who bought music you like. plus youre supporting artists directly, and you can play your music in the bandcamp app and download it to then play it using any of the above options
soulseek
is a peer 2 peer filesharing platforms where people will come into your dms and call you a cunt for downloading their publicly available files that they chose to share on purpose. aside from this its great. use nicotine+ if youre on linux. "but i dont know how piracy works" its ridiculously easy. i really do believe in your ability to figure it out
download from youtube
cobalt might still be having issues downloading from youtube but if it isnt, its a great tool for doing that.
i personally use yt-dlp but i understand that command line tools are scary for most people. it does have a number of GUIs people made for it (for example this i got off reddit by googling yt-dlp gui)
i dont actually like downloading off youtube because im in the habit of chucking a playlist in yt-dlp and leaving it to run in the background, only to discover that whoever put the playlist together only included the music video versions of the songs not the album versions and i have to start again. shit sucks
How to find new music to listen to
I worried about this when i first deleted spotify, but the thing is, people are constantly talking about music around you. I got in the habit of googling any songs or artists people mentioned around me that i havent listened to, or im not as familiar with as id like to be. i found a lot of terrible music like this, and also a lot of music ive come to really love.
the other great avenue for finding new music is the various mixes people put on youtube. this is one i just found that seems fun
you could also get really into internet radio.
podcasts
you can listen to podcasts fucking anywhere. come on. i cant hold your hand forever
-
I haven't completely been able to escape online music streaming, obviously i rely on youtube for looking up songs and stuff like that, but to be honest since i deleted spotify i haven't even noticed it was gone. all spotify really does is make you pay like 8 dollars per month for the privilege of getting an ai generated daily playlist thats called something like "cunty beehive sodapop vibes"
dont forget, tomorrow (dec 5th) it is bandcamp friday, which means that for any purchase made on bandcamp that day, the artist will get almost the full amount of your money because the platform’s revenue share is waived. if youre gonna make a direct purchase, do it on bandcamp friday. dont fall for FOMO, if you cant do it tomorrow, wait till the next bandcamp friday on february 6th

hi hocus… you havent posted/reblogged in a while but ill still send this, for if and when you see it…
‘Oh, Bury Us Alive’ has CHANGED my life. like. actually
its like my favorite fanfic ever and i think about it daily, i quote it in my head and fantasize about its versions of Ethan and Heisenberg as opposed to canon-convergent ones.
i dont necessarily have a lot to say, ive ive been thinking about making a comment on it.
i often spend time thinking about and drawing them, as well as moments from the story.
It has become its own fixation of mine, like a sub-fixation of resident evil/ethan winters
i dont know who all appreciates your writing, but i do. this fic actually means so much to me and i platonically love you with all my heart
hello anon! sorry it took me so long to get back to you; i haven't really been online much recently. i do want you to know how happy i was to get this ask! i'm really really glad that you like oh, bury us alive this much; it's extremely flattering to hear, and though i always struggle to express how much, i am really happy that you took the time to message me <3
there are elements in this fic that are things that i love reading myself, and i owe a huge debt to the anonymous author of Lex Talionis, a Vulpes/Boone FNV fic that i read 15 years ago and which has lived rent free in my head ever since. it's unfinished, and as far as i know has never been published anywhere else online, but it was a huge inspiration for oh bury us. if it's not a fandom you're familiar with it likely won't hit the same, but i wanted to mention it nonetheless :)
in any case, thank you again for the ask! i'm very very happy to see this fic getting this kind of love <3 <3 <3
ppl who celebrate fictional character birthdays are annoying pass it on

My dad creates some fucked up dishes.
Here’s an average recipe, since there are a lot of variations.
There’s soup, the soup isn’t heated, heating isn’t what my dad is all about. He takes this soup, dumps it into the pan and starts frying. Adds tons of onions, garlic, bell and black peppers, FLOUR!! for viscosity, tomato sauce on top. This is all fried until it starts smoking. Then it’s taken off the fire and cools down on the balcony. Then dad brings it back and, after generously pouring mayo over it, starts eating. He eats it directly from the pan, scraping it with a spoon. Eats it and half-whispers “oh fuck”. While he’s doing all that he even starts sweating. Sometimes he graciously offers me some, but I turn him down. Do I even need to say what wild farts he has afterwards? The stench is so bad, it peels the wallpaper off the walls.
