Hi everyone my name is Fabrice Uwijuru from Uganda and I'm a transgander [ She/ her] 🏳️‍⚧️🏳️‍⚧️ I left home at 15 years old I never had a chance to know my parents after leaving Uganda after chasing me because my gander I went in kakuma refugee camp in kenya seeking asylum but after getting in refugee camp I faced a lot of challenges discrimination, hate going in bed empty stomach to the extent I was almost killed, after finding myself in that situation I decided to leave kakuma and go in South Sudan camp in Gorom hoping to find peace freedom welcoming hands but looks like the world is the same to people who have our gander, now I'm facing hard challenges like discriminating😞 going in bed,empty stomachs,and and hate to the extent sometimes I wish to end my life😢 I used to wish that I can see the world where's no hate and other things like that. I would like to ask anyone anyway around the world who can hear me and help me in this station I need you hands guys help🙏 me to go forward in this situation. Uhh no we didn’t. Misogyny, homophobia and transphobia were Extremely rife in the scene. Precisely because the boys looked like the girls - the boys who were not closeted transfems like myself frequently were extremerly sexist. If you look at the lyrics of most of those scene bands - hell even the titles like “ikilledthepromqueen” and “kill Whitney dead” it was mostly misogyny. Men in their 20s frequently groomed my then-16 year old friends, and I had to convince them to not date the 23 year old while at high school. Many of these men would later be charged for child r*pe.

Evenly openly gay people like Jeffery Starr are transphobic and reactionary.

While I felt better dressing like a girl in the 00s, it was no substitute for HRT and actually being a girl, as opposed to a feminine boy. I was still dysphoric in women’s clothes as long as didn’t have the body of a woman, and treated socially like “woman-lite”.

The worst part is - a lot of straight boys did it for the attention of mostly straight women, rather than gender affirmation like myself.

Being emo or scene is no substitute for trans liberation and feminism. It was absolutely the opposite of gender abolitionist. Because often the sexism and queer phobia of scene kids came precisely because many emo boys felt too emasculated and needed to prove their masculinity, even in women’s jeans. Hence the lyrics and grooming.

A boy can still dress effeminate and act like a patriarch. There is a reason so many scene bands have vocalists with SA/CSA allegations or charges against them, Lostprophets being an extreme example.

Please stop making it the utopia it never was, especially if you were not there. I don’t miss it. I am a woman, not an emo femboy. I don’t want us to go back to 90s-00s values. Zoomers idolise my childhood too much.

I also don’t want my femininity abolished - I was still dysphoric when I was androgynous. It’s why I get upset when I am *still* they/themmed by strangers.

This is bullshit, you can now be arrested for tweeting meanly about a politician’s death.

Was it misguided? Sure. Should she have stopped posting her way through the backlash? Probably.

My chronic illness is getting worse and worse as the days go by. Everyday I get anxious about the future and about how I'm going to get a job if I can barely leave my house.

Because if the woman who made goddamn Vespertine and Homogenic still has negative reviews get under her skin and ruin her creative process - you will get brainworms too. The human brain is not designed to read so much negative feedback as anything other than a potentially dangerous abandonment by the tribe. And fawning can mean giving what makes your art uniquely yours. In these fear responses, the unconscious walls up. The flow is interrupted.

Fans who don't make art, just consume it - realise this too. Do not 'demand' a sound from a musician, a specific canon ending from an animator, a colour scheme from an illustrator. Art is powerful precisely when it is out of your control, otherwise it lacks the element of surprise.

This applies to artists too - the real creator is your unconscious self, not your ego - who gloats, fights and does a lot of the non-creative work. And you can only access your unconscious when it is safe to do so and when it decides - not using egoic effortful intention. It only comes out in effortless doing.

The more I rely on music to pay for my healthcare, the less selfish I feel I am allowed to be. This is why the 90's "slacker" who innovates a genre has all but disappeared. Many innovate artists now come from places which still have a semblance of a welfare state, and easy indirect funding (like Iceland).

Pay artists - buy from bandcamp and physical mediums/merch. Artists - join a union, for the sake of your creative potential (I am part of the MEAA). Starving artists are the ones least likely to innovate.

Their current missionary age for both genders is 19. That's barely out of fucking high school. Any younger and they're going to be sending actual fucking children to random ass countries and making them struggle to survive.

We need to be doing everything we can to keep this scamming, abusive, pedophilic, racist church away from young people.
