For the Take Two AU you wrote that beautiful drabble about Kakashi dying as himself and waking up as Aizawa and his students being still young and seemingly untouched by time and beside his deathbed, but also wouldn't normal aging apply to Sakura as well? She's not some sort of demigod reincarnation bullshit like Naruto and Sasuke are... Just thinking about Sakura dying from old age and leaving Naruto and Sasuke as the last two... Not alone, still together, but missing two of the most important people of their lives...
They realize, some years after Kaguya, that there is something different about Naruto and Sasuke both.
Something that goes beyond everything they'd already known.
And it starts, not with them, but with Kakashi.
Kakashi who, despite running his body ragged, despite tasting death time and time again, is not aging as he should.
Gai has laugh lines now. Genma is slowing down, old wounds acting up. Kurenai has glasses.
Kakashi is still, somehow, Kakashi. Calmer yes, more at peace, but still he hasn't slowed down. Even if he's younger than many of the others he's still lived more of a shinobi's life than many of them and for longer.
And yet he remains the same.
It takes them longer to realize that whatever gift of longevity he's been given has been extended to Sakura too.
Sakura who, like Naruto and Sasuke both, still retains a flush of youth that Ino and Hinata and all of the others have slowly begun to lose.
Sakura is the one who figures it out. Who discovers the connection between Naruto's golden chakra and the slowed degeneration of her and Kakashi's cells.
They tell no one.
Shikamaru, of course, knows. The rest of their friends probably do too.
But no one says anything.
It's an open secret of sorts, like so many other things about Naruto used to be.
Publically Kakashi's aging is attributed to a Hatake Clan trait. The Hatake Clan had been devastated in the Clan wars, driven as they all always were, and there is no one left alive who truly remembers Sakumo besides Kakashi. And his father had not, after all, lived long enough to be considered old. So, in the end, it's just another aspect that will forever be a part of the legend of Hatake Kakashi.
No one bothers to question Sakura's youthfulness. She is, after all, Senju Tsunade's student.
And so time passes.
Eventually, Kakashi goes, the Shinigami finally catching up with him after all these many years.
He dies as all sensei should, surrounded by and before his precious students, alive and gloriously blossomed, with a smile on his face.
His students grieve him desperately but they do it with love, with pride, and while they never forget him, while they will spend the rest of their lives turning in his direction despite him being gone, they do eventually let him rest in their hearts as well.
Decades pass.
Sakura eventually resorts to using Tsunade's technique, not out of vanity but because she cannot bear the aching grief she sees in Sasuke and Naruto's eyes every time their attention is caught by the far too slowly spreading streak of grey in her hair.
She will not have them mourn her so long before her time.
So Sakura stands tall and proud at their sides through the decades, unwavering and true.
But then she watches Sasuke rage over the death of his and Naruto's firstborn. She watches Naruto hold him together and then she chases Naruto halfway across the continent and watches him crumble a mountain in his grief.
She sits at Ino's deathbed, her love's hand wizened and gnarled but still so beautiful in her own.
She watches the first of her own children fade.
Sakura realizes that, unlike the two men who will always own a part of her heart, she is not built for eternity.
Not like them. Not even with them.
But if there is one thing Sakura had learned at Naruto's side and beneath Kakashi's guiding hand, on the opposite side of Sasuke's rage and grief, and at Tsunade's knee, it is loyalty.
And so she stays.
She stays and she lives and she stands with them until she is the last. The last of their generation besides these two boys demigods who have defined so much of her life. Who she has watched and helped to change the world.
And when she knows her time has come she drags them both out of the village proper with her.
She does her best not to cry when Sasuke sweeps her into his arms when her legs give out. When Naruto holds her hand and flirts and calls her Sakura-chan again. When he talks about what they'll have for dinner or what they'll do tomorrow or how yet another one of Gaara's descendants is coming to the village soon in yet another attempt to woo him into leaving Sasuke.
All things they all know she won't be around to see.
So together they go to the one place Sakura has wanted to see again since the moment she knew her end was finally approaching.
She dies there, her head in Naruto's lap, her hand held gently in Sasuke's own, in the middle of the flower field she and Ino had married in.
She dies peaceful and loved and happy to go because she knows that, for all they'll miss and mourn her as they still do Kakashi, they'll still have each other.
They will always have each other.
Another little part of Naruto and Sasuke both goes with her but, as she and Kakashi both had known, they endure.

Haku hears the whispers of the villagers as he easily glides through the crowd. The elders are all murmuring to each other, hope and wary disbelief on their faces. Uzumaki, he hears. The name of the boy with hair like the sun and eyes the color of a clear summer sky. The boy who desperately wishes to protect those he cherishes. Like him. Haku drifts closer, unseen. Uzumaki, they whisper. Is he real? Some ask. Did he steal the name? Others look fierce. No, he Knows the Sea. Even more whisper even as their voices ring with the sincerity of their declaration. He doesn't look like an Uzumaki, one protests. Fool, another replies. It's in his face, his eyes, the way he walks. He belongs to the Sea. More nod and Hope flickers through the group of elders like ground fire. Eyes shining and spines straightening. They look like they're going to speak more but several of Gato's thugs have entered the market and the group scatters. But Haku can see, they each carry that ember of Hope with them as they move away and disappear. Haku thinks of what he heard. He hopes Zabuza-Sama will explain what they meant when the people of Wave declared Uzumaki to belong to the Sea.
Zabuza is testing his movements, he needs to be sure of himself when he goes to fight Hatake tomorrow. Haku can deal with the brats easily but Hatake is the challenge. He'll win this time and take Haku and their money and go back to the Rebellion. There is no other choice. Haku comes back with a confused look on his face. He reports what he saw and heard before he hesitates before slowly asking what is special about Uzumakis. Zabuza can almost feel his heart stop as an icy hand clutches it at the mention of the name. Sea witches. Terrors of the Waves. Danger. Red Deaths. Why, he demands harshly as stories of the Uzumakis flit through his head. Even 40 years after Uzushio was razed to the ground, they were fierce and terrifying stories still whispered of in the Bloody Mist. The boy, the blond. His name is Uzumaki. Something deep inside Zabuza whispers to flee, to take Haku and run into the night. There's nothing more terrifying than Uzumakis on on sea. He squashes that down quick. It's only a brat, one Haku will be able to handle. Besides, he's from the Leaf. He wasn't raised on the sea. That part of him urges him to flee once more when Haku says that the elders in the village agree that the blond brat is a real Uzumaki. Zabuza let's out a breath. Uzumakis are terrors with water and seals, he tells Haku. Watch for that when you fight him. Haku asks, What did they mean when they said Uzumaki-kun belongs to the Sea? Zabuza resists the urge to curse. Grimly, he said, The boy will have a connection to the sea, he'll feel and know things he should have no way of knowing about the sea and he'll find things he shouldn't be able to. Some Uzumakis have the sea react to them, even without Chakra. They Belong to the Sea, a part of it. And it's a part of them. And no one sane can fight the Sea he thinks. It doesn't matter, he's likely never been this close to the sea before so he won't know what he's doing. Kill him quick. Don't hesitate with your soft heart he growls. With a soft Yes, Zabuza-sama, they turn towards other matters. Tomorrow they will fight an Uzumaki over the sea. They have to be ready.
When Tazuna first heard the loud, stupid young blond yelling out his name, he felt fury. He knew the Uzumakis once. They were of the Sea and this landbound brat is claiming their name? Their history? Then he felt shame. Even if the brat had stolen the name, Tazuna was probably going to get him killed. They were sending him out with kids barely older than his grandson. And if he's a real Uzumaki, landbound as he is, he may ne responsible for the death of the Last Uzumaki. He drank another bottle to drown his thoughts and guilt once more. The closer they got to Wave, the antsier the brat got. He squirmed and craned his neck, looking for something. When they got to the place where his old friend was waiting to take them back to Wave, the kid froze. He stared at the ocean, watching the water. Tazuna couldn't even see him breathe. Then they were ushered onto the boat and the moment broke. Tazuna kept an eye on the boy as he crossed. He was distracted, even as he talked with his team. Uzumaki, Uzumaki, a real Uzumaki, his heart cried. And you're leading him to his death, his conscience hissed. Tazuna shut his eyes and drank more. After they made it through that awful fight with those missing nin, he lead the Genin kids to his home. The closer they got, the further inland the more the blond lost focus. His eyes clouded over and his head tilted back towards the Sea the way Kenjiro's used to do when he visited Wave. He's an Uzumaki. He belongs to the Sea, his heart wept. Tazuna drank another bottle. Every time the boy Uzumaki Naruto, Maelstrom brought back his finds from the shoreline, fish, oysters, little treasures, the sicker Tazuna felt. Uzumaki, Uzumaki! The Sea Belongs to him, his heart screamed. Tazuna drank another bottle. The boy Uzumaki always lead the way to the Bridge. He never got lost. He could tell the time by the tides. He gifted the villagers with most of the seafood he found. It was always enough for everyone to have a meal. The boy with the hair the color of the sun and eyes the color of the summer sky the summer sea. When those ninja came back, he was going to die. Tazuna drank another bottle.
Ok, I think that's really it now. I have never been fond of Tazuna but I felt sorry for him here. Poor Haku was more for showing what the villagers though of Naruto, too. Not much screen time for him. 😅
Tazuna, who is old enough to remember when Uzushio thrived absolutely finds himself torn about what he's done, this danger he's placed what just might be the last of the Uzumaki into.
But it's too late to take back and the sensei is already catching onto his staring and the grief and guilt that not even Zabuza's apperance has managed to stem.
So he keeps his silence even if the whispers are already beginning to travel through the village with every glimpse of Naruto.
But it's not a secret that any of them will be able to keep for much longer, not with what's to come.
Ooh, for Tsunami AU, how about Naruto just fixating on the ocean whenever he's not training or working.
Just always staring, feeling something whisper to him to Come Home. It doesn't feel like he'd imagine the Fox to feel, but it sings in his bones and every heart beat rushing through his ears sounds like the ocean now, even when he's away from the shore. He can find little treasures in the sand, always can find fish to catch, can tell when the tides shift. Everything in Naruto is Peace and Longing and Grief. The Ocean is his Home, one he'd desperately tried to make Konoha be. But Konoha never sang to him, never lead him to places he needed to be, things he needed to find. He Knows where to find tide pools, riptides, caves that lead to places that people haven't seen in almost 40 years, treasures hidden away, places and things that sing his name.
Kakashi is becoming increasingly concerned during all this. Whenever Naruto isn't training, guarding Tazuna or helping Tsunami, he's just staring towards the sea. Towards Uzushio, not that Naruto knows. And Kakashi is afraid that he'll lose Naruto to whatever this is. So he needles him, goading him to train more, to distract him from the sea. He had heard Kushina talk about the Call of the Sea only once, she had looked so pained and smelled of grief. She had told Minato that she could never return to the sea or else she'd never come back. But she was the Jinchuuriki of the Nine Tails and she knew her duty. She had come the closest that Kakashi had ever seen to crying as she told Minato that when he assigned missions as the Hokage, he could never send her near the sea.
Sasuke had never seen the Dobe so distracted before. He was his usual self on the surface, but he was always a beat too slow to react to any jabs, verbal or physical, the closer they were to the shoreline. It frustrated him scared him. He was still loud, yelled for Haruno's attention, ranted at the brat Inari, cheerfully helped Tsunami-san around the house, but his eyes were gone. They were clouded and far away. They didn't focus on what was before him on him. Only drew him to the sea. Only at the coastline were his eyes clear and bright and blazing and mesmerizing. The Dobe didn't turn that look towards him anymore. It was a relief. It was a loss. He had followed the Dobe to the sea once, so he could try and figure out what was drawing him. That Dobe, who couldn't water walk on the little pond in their training clearing, was running across the sea, laughing and smiling in a way he'd never seen before. His body lost the tension he never knew the Dobe had. He ran on the waves and was running, running, running. He wasn't stopping. Sasuke couldn't breathe. Naruto was leaving. Leaving him. No, please. Come back. Finally he stopped and slowly came back to shore. But his body was tense, he looked like every step was a fight. Sasuke didn't breathe right until Naruto disappeared into the treeline. Sasuke didn't care if the Dobe decided to become a missing nin. He would shatter if he left.
Sakura didn't notice for a while. Naruto was still as loud and annoying as ever. Bothering her and being rude to Inari-kun. Acting as if he could ever beat Sasuke-kun in training. But eventually she noticed that he was gone during his breaks. At first, she was relieved. Finally, some peace and quiet while she had time to get closer to Sasuke-kun! But then she came across him at the shore one day. He was quiet, still, like he had never been before. He was watching the sea like it had all the answers to questions that she never knew he had. And when he moved, he didn't stumble over the sand. He moved easily, almost gracefully if that word could ever be used to describe Naruto. Every now and them, he'd stop and dig a little before pulling out beautiful shells, oysters and crabs. Every oyster he'd open, he'd find a pearl. It was strange. Unsettling. Naruto had never left the Village before and now he's able to walk the beach finding things she wouldn't guess would be there. The more she thought about it, the stranger it was. He could always find his way ever since they reached Wave. He never got lost or turned around like he did in Konoha. He had warned them when the tides were changing. When she and Sasuke-kun hadn't listened to him, he'd scowl but always be proven right while they were left soaked. He was always able to find food. Whatever he didn't bring back for Tsunami-san, he passed out to the villagers. She and Sasuke-kun were lucky to get one fish apiece. It wasn't normal. It was strange. She left him alone on his breaks after that, trying to ignore the hairs on the back of her neck prickling every time he got that far away look in his eyes.
Omg, I didn't realize how much this AU got to me until I started typing. It grabbed me by the throat and didn't let go. I think I could keep going but it's rough typing this on my phone and is already huge.
yes yes yes to absolutely all of this.
Naruto steps outside of the village for the first time and feels a weight slide off his shoulders he never knew he was carrying.
And the further he goes, the closer they get to Wave, the lighter it grows.
But the moment his sandals touch actual sea water for the first time?
Every hair on Naruto's body stands on end, a shiver slices down his spine, and something wells up inside of him that he doesn't know how to name really.
He has instincts now that he's never felt before, knows things he doesn't know how to explain, and loves a thing so wide and vast and unknowable that he can barely breathe.
Team 7 sees this new distraction of his and each in their own ways fear that they've lost him somehow, have lost Naruto to a force that not even they can fight.
The villagers see this and see only an Uzumaki finally returned.
the other side of this brand is ilya slipping into shane and telling him “gonna fuck you so good you’ll still feel it tomorrow for our game” punctuating each word with a thrust hard enough to send shane sliding up the bed a little, and because there's one thing ilya will never be able to do is fuck the competitiveness out of shane, shane looks up at him, fuck drunk and still smirking lightly, saying “fuck me so good you’ll still feel it tomorrow too, it will be your consolation price when you lose”
and that is the kind of dirty talk that threatens to absolutely destroy ilya’s stamina

post outing but pre hollander in ottawa a reporter asks roz if he’s ever thrown a game for hollander and roz rolls his eyes and says “no. the first and last time i even joked about throwing a game not even against him he did not let me touch him for 2 weeks. i have not dared to since, it took a 2 weeks long win streak to convince him i was not serious. i do not even joke about things with such dire consequences.” and everyone laughs it off but people online find the 2 weeks long win streak and the whole time roz is playing like hes possessed flattening team after team including montreal and everyone collectively is like ‘ah. them winning against each other is a sex thing.’
yuna knew she would love ilya the second she realised he had rearranged and planned a joint multi million dollar advertisement campaign just for the chance to see him again #freckles
that’s the sort of commitment she could get behind (and she’s only mildly miffed she didn’t come up with the ccm idea first)
Sometimes I think about Shane's "sex condo" and yes it's crazy work that he bought a whole ass apartment building to get railed, but I don't think you have to dive too deep to get a little more nuance out of that. I imagine that at 19, the apartment Shane had in Montreal was, largely, picked out and decorated by his mother. The rental/purchase was probably arranged by the team, as part of his contract, and let's be so for real here: his mom would have picked out a lot of the furnishings because he's a teenage guy with not a lot of strong opinions on that kind of stuff and he just wants to play hockey.
So he's 19, living in a space managed by his mom. She probably has a key and not a lot of boundaries. And there's this hot sexy Russian begging to fuck him. For two years. And nothing really changes in those two years with his mom or his apartment (especially in the show -- show Shane is way more passive and managed by his mom than book Shane is, I think) and he wants to get railed so badly but there's no way he can relax enough for it to happen here. Where his whole team knows he lives, and the doorman knows he never brings anyone back, and his parents walk on with barely a five minute head's up (because Im so sorry, ilu David, but if you're still doing it at the cottage when Shane is 25 when you could just go buy a new charger for why the fuck do you only have one charger anyway that is crazy work, they are definitely doing it when Shane is 19, 20, 21).
So he buys a building. Maybe it's his first truly independent move that his parents have no say or knowledge of. He spends months researching neighborhoods and property values and his Google search is a mix of 'how to flip an apartment rental' and 'mixed commerical and residential zones montreal' and 'how to prepare for anal sex - men' (the last one is done in an incognito browser, on a laptop he bought specifically for that type of search, and from which he then deletes his internet history) and eventually buys a moderately sized building that's zoned commerical on the ground floor and has room for two loft apartments. It's in a decent part of Montreal, where he could get a reasonable rent from people and not feel gross about exploiting them. It needs work, but he's kind of excited about that.
And his parents have no idea about it. It's private, secure, and his.
So yeah, it's not completely furnished by the time Ilya comes over, but he picked everything out himself. And the sheets he picked out feel really great against his back as Ilya fucks him until he cries
So after Shane leaves the Metros, the team starts sending out Hayden Pike to do press to cover their asses and keep their more asshole-ish players from saying slurs in front of reporters.
After one inconsequential game, a reporter asks about what Coach Theriault and Hayden think of the future of hockey with their former star player playing with his husband. Theriault says some shitty PR nothing answer laced with so much disdain that Hayden just. can't. take. anymore.
Obviously his team wants him to shit-talk his best friend and de facto brother-in-law who happen to be playing the best hockey of a generation (he will never let Ilya know he thinks this). The reporter obviously is chomping at the bit for a "dissension in the locker room" story that will make his life even more miserable. So, fuck the both of them.
"and how about you Hayden, what do you think about the future of hockey with Hollander and Rozanov?"
"Well, I think they should get on having kids, like surrogacy or adoption of something"
Dead silence, the reporter blinks in confusion. He can feel the glare coming off Theriault burning into the side of his face. He doesn’t turn his head and blithely goes on.
“Yeah, specifically 3 girls. I have 3 girls so if they have 3 girls, we’d have a whole hockey team to start in the pee-wees and get to the PWHL. My Ruby would obviously be a defender. She’d spend her whole life in the box, but she'd be such a good enforcer, especially if she was playing with her sisters. Jade is sneaky fast, so forward for her. And I know Amber is a baby, but I swear she’s got goalie eyes. My son Arthur is already the peacemaker of the family, so Uncle Shane could start training him up on all the rules so he can be our ref. But Shane and Ilya would have to get themselves another defender and a right or left wing with a center. Yep, that’s the future in hockey I’d love to see with Hollander and Rozanov”
Thus Hayden makes headlines bigger than any other time in his whole career. His time in the locker room does get shittier, but it’s all worth it for the call from Shane telling him that Ilya loved his vision of the future so much he cried looking at baby girl names online and researching PWHL teams.
my take on the "weak backhand" thing is that Shane obviously has an unbelievable backhand. Like one of the best of all time. But Ilya's backhand is absolutely lethal. Like truly GOATED. Like pretty much everyone agrees it is the best in the league by a margin. It's one of his signature moves. So it's one of the only things that he does better than Shane and everyone knows it. And so him teasing Shane for having a weak backhand is peak ragebait behavior because he's basically the only person that can do that and as much as Shane knows it's complete bs and he doesn't have a weak backhand at all, he can't really argue back because Ilya's backhand really is better than his.

They won't change their last names officially but Shane and Ilya very much have a "what is mine is yours, what is yours is mine" attitude to it.
They arrive at a restaurant, Ilya leading Shane inside, smoothly telling the maître d': "We he have a reservation for Hollander." "Of course. Would you let me show you to your table, Mr. and Mr. Hollander." And Ilya looks so proud and so happy and Shane squeezes his hand tightly.
Ilya wants them to have new bespoke suits for the NHL awards, he got a rec for that hidden gem of a Québécois tailor, and makes Shane call him. Shane rolls his eyes, they have enough suits yet he indulges his husband. He stares at Ilya across the room when he calls and says. "J'ai besoin un rendez-vous pour deux personnes. Oui. Mon nom est Rozanov." Shane only notices after ending the call, blushing slightly, but Ilya comes sauntering towards him, grinning like the cat that ate the canary. "Oh, Mr. Rozanov it is, I see. Maybe we should swap."
They go on a family vacation together with David and Yuna and Ilya introduces them with "We are the Hollanders" to all the other hotel guests.
Shane introducing them as "We are Shane and Ilya Rozanov." to the new neighbours.
It's exciting and comfortable at the same time these little moments of being so openly married, of being seen a family together, and for this it really doesn't matter which name they use.
Cliff wants to be a good bro and a good ally so when he and Ilya hang out to watch a movie, he decides they’re gonna watch a Gay Movie. And what is the one Gay Movie every straight guy knows? Brokeback Mountain. And what is the only thing straight guys know about Brokeback Mountain? That it’s the gay cowboy movie. And hey that sounds fun, cowboys are fun
Shane gets a text two hours later from Cliff that’s a picture of Ilya on the couch with his head down between his knees and he’s just like “HELP I BROKE HIM IM SORRY I DIDNT KNOW THEY BROKE UP AND THEN THE ONE GUY GOT HATECRIMED TO DEATH I THOUGHT THERE WOULD BE GUNS AND TRAIN ROBBING”
Ilya stares at their bedroom ceiling. Laying awake after a stupid dream that made his heart race and his throat close up.
Beside him, Shane is sleeping soundly.
He should just let it be, let him sleep. But, the thing is- Shane made him promise. Promise to wake him up next time.
Which would just be dumb. And unneccesairy. Then we would both be awake, what is the point? But Shane had just repeated his request. Promise.
With a sigh, and quite a bit of shame clinging to him for what he is about to do, he turns and gently strokes over Shane's arm.
"Mh? Wha-?" Shane shifts onto his elbow to look around the dark room instantly. "Is it Anya? Is she throwing up again?"
The concern in Shane's voice over Anya (who had an upset stomach a month ago and they woke up to her retching) makes Ilya smile softly and push closer to him.
"No. Is me."
"You?" Shane's voice is rough from sleep and Ilya noses at his throat before he settles on his shoulder. "Yes."
"...Is your stomach okay?"
"Mhmh, all good. I had a nightmare."
"Oh." Warm arms wrap around him immediatly.
The way Shane squeezes him and presses several kisses against his hairline makes Ilya breathe out. Relieved that Shane's not annoyed with him. He knew he wouldn't be. Of course he wouldn't be. He made him promise to wake him. But, still.
"That sucks. Tell me about it?" The words are sleepily slurred together, which makes Ilya smile again.
"Mh. No." He turns his head slightly to place two pecks on Shane's chest, lingering on the second one. His hand sneaks under Shane's shirt and rubs over his stomach, a soothing back and forth. "Is all good now."
"Mh'okay." There is the slightest voice crack which makes Ilya's smile grow at the memory of Shane high as a kite on pain killers all those years ago.

When Ilya moves to the Centaurs he doesn’t get to keep his number. Some old fuck on the team already has it and refuses to trade, no matter how much Ilya bribes him.
so, in true Ilya Rozanov fashion, he picks the number 24. People think he did it to be an asshole, which is true, but he also did it to have Shane with him all the time. Shane was both infuriated and touched by it.
but then of course, years later, SHANE transfers to Ottawa. And lo and behold, the old fuck who had number 81 retired, so when Shane has to choose a number?
81 is available.
so the first day of training, Shane walks into practice in a jersey that says Hollander, 81, with an absolutely shit-eating grin on his face.
I like to imagine Rose’s brothers gave her shit for not sticking it out with Shane Hollander long enough for him to meet the family then when they find out it’s because Shane is gay they give her shit for not passing him along to one of them and she’s like??? you’re not gay??? to which they’re like !!!! everyone’s gay for Shane Hollander, Ilya Rozanov ain’t special
