The Nintendo Switch version of Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door features a detail absent from the original GameCube version whereby enemies will laugh at Mario if he is hit by a stage hazard (e.g. a light falling from the ceiling) during battle.

The Shadow Queen has two animations meant to be used for this purpose, which do not appear during the battle against her. It is likely that the developers believed her personality was too serious, or the circumstances of the battle too dramatic, that her laughing at Mario getting hit by a falling bucket would not be tonally appropriate.

The left animation is not used at all, while the one on the right is used for a split second in the game's credits.

Supper Mario Broth: A Primer

Concept art for various transition screens from overworld levels to underground levels in Super Mario Bros. In the finished game, a modified version of the one in the bottom left (with the double pipe) was used.

Interestingly, the top right shows Mario simply walking down a series of steps into the underground and falling down the bottom of the screen. Given how these levels then start with Mario falling from the top of the screen rather than exiting a pipe, it is possible that this was originally the intended transition screen before being replaced with the pipe one and the beginning of the levels not being adjusted for that change, though this is merely speculation.
