I told Nicki that I loved him… From the first seconds I saw him in Paris. That I was drunk with his love. I was engulfed by it.

Annoying that he looks like that and then can act like that and then, oh by the way, he can sing like he can sing which is INSAAAAAAAAAANNNIITTTTYYYYYYYYYY
He sounds so incredible across all the songs, but there's something about his voice on The Loneliness that just feels like such a revelation to me, I love it so much! I know Jacob and Hannah both talked about it at NYCC, but it must've been so insane to hear him like this on set, especially for people who've been working with him across the last two seasons where he showed less range in the songs.
Daniel Hart's incredible score is out.
I can't wait to listen to it! I'm out for a chunk of today with a few different things, but I'm hoping to be home early-ish and am definitely setting aside to give it a spin. 😊

SAM REID as LESTAT DE LIONCOURT in The Vampire Lestat • 1.01, Detroit
tvl went from being 100% on RT to 96% which is the lowest a season of iwtv has been ranked :/ i feel really bummed out about that :/
Ah, I wouldn't be bummed about it, anon! 96% is still an insanely high rating - one of my favourite movies of all time sits at an 83%, a movie I saw at MIFF the other night which I thought was astonishing is at 88% (despite winning Best Director at Cannes and being nominated for the Palme d'Or this year) and I actually just finished a show last night that I thought was a great pulpy noir miniseries and logged on to see that it isn't even rated on RT and has a 5.9 on IMDB, haha.
Reviews are subjective, but on top of that, Rolin and Hannah took a lot of creative risks this season, and y'know, as I've said before, I don't think all of them quite worked, but I also think it's thrilling that they took them. It's a team interested in challenging itself (although yes, I think they have their blindspots too), and Rolin's pretty open about seeing the 100% RT score as meaning they didn't push themselves enough, which I don't think is a bad way to approach a series. Artists should be interested in taking risks, and s3 is a good time to do that when they have laid the foundation of artistic assurance and skill that they did with the first two seasons.
It's actually kind of why I'm finding some of the conversations right now in the fandom pretty frustrating, and I can't lie! Is why I've been staying a little bit away (although i really am very busy too, haha), and why I've unfollowed quite a few mutuals since the finale. I don't begrudge people their criticisms of the season - I have my own! - but I think there is a bit of a snowball effect happening where as soon as people decide something didn't work for them in the season, they're falling into rabbit holes of both good-and-bad faith criticisms which both compounds opinion and leads to a sort of bleed where thinking x becomes thinking y which in turn means something not working becomes everything not working, which is, well.
What ultimately leads to people deciding the show deserves review bombing on IMDB or to be dialed into NAACP or writing posts about Cabbage being a white supremacy anthem (????).
The creative team hasn't really changed (and I do wonder if for some there's a sense of betrayal in that?), so I guess it's interesting to me to see that that foundation doesn't really serve them when it comes to a fandom audience. I guess the old saying 'you're only as good as your last performance' is true, which is kind of nuts when I think that last performance was a great one.
Sorry, this wasn't to the point of your ask at all, haha, but look. My point is good reviews are good to get, but no opinion of art should be uniform because it's subjective by its nature and humans aren't uniform. I appreciate why it's bumming you out given how much this fandom likes to treat seasons of this show as in competition with itself rather than an evolving story, but I don't know. These sorts of things are worth noticing but not really taking too on board, y'know? What matters ultimately is how you feel about it, everything else is just gravy.

great review, even though I like a lot of the songs for themselves as songs, not only for sam's amazing performances of them lol
AMC’s TV adaptation of Anne Rice’s “Vampire Chronicles” is an all-consuming spectacle.
GREAT review, anon! Both super insightful, but also really well-written (although he feels a little more optimistic about the fandom than I do these days, haha).
