Btw just in case anyone has no idea who Jan Misali is and doesn’t mind watching a video and reading a mini-comic to understand this post, [HERE IS THE VIDEO] and [HERE IS THE COMIC]. Technically you don’t need to read the whole comic, just the [ending page]. It’s also based on a web comic called Homestuck which I’m gong to assume you already know about, If you don’t know what Homestuck is please tell me how you found this Tumblr post and why you’re reading it, that information will be very useful for my marketing department.

I also want to make something else clear before I start, This post will not be about the video A Video About Homestuck but instead about the universe it showcases that just so happens to have the exact same name, which I will be calling A Video About Homestuck (disambiguation) shortened to AVAH(D). 

Anyway this post is about the in-universe planet Drsk which looks like this. In  AVAH(D) it’s replacement for Derse but it’s also the only planet we ever see, and even then we only ever see the inside of a building presumably inside of the blue territory. There is no Prositian equivalent, which makes sense because Drsk(planet) is based off a constructed language that Jan Misali has critiqued, in their show Conlang Critic, which used to be their Youtube name. 

Anyway, showing only one planet implies that there is one planet, and on top of that, one kind of Carapacian. But we see in this panel from the comic that no, there are two distinct kinds of Carapacians, Teal and Red. 

So then how are their two Carapacian types when there’s only one planet shown? The easy solution that is unbecoming of someone who would type all this shit is that there’s simply another planet we never see and is never talked about, nut I have a more fun explanation.

The different colored sections of the planet house different Carapacians. Which colors they so in specifically are unknown but Teal would probably live in the blue territory while Red might live in the orange territory . The yellow territory might house white-shelled Carapacians just because it looks exactly like Prospit. This also ties back to Misali Votgil’s blood color, as their dream self wakes up in the blue territory which would house Drskites of their blood color. Misali’s server player, Boogse, also appears to have light-orange blood, which might hint at them an Orange Territory dreamer.

Ok now I’m just gonna analyze the scene we see with the two Carapacians. It’s based on a panel from the Jan Misali video [hangman is a weird game at 8:45]. That link takes you to the specific timeframe btw, but I recommend watching the video anyways. You know, assuming you haven’t seen Jan Misali’s most popular video but still decided to read through this entire post. Anyway, as I was saying, The Red Carapacian is holding chalk, which is funny because the medium they’re playing hangman on is a computer. This means that they might be using the chalk to press the keys for some reason. They might be just having a snack as Carapacians have been known to do. Or my personal favorite explanation, that is their weapon of choice and they are going to attack the Teal person, which brings me to my second note. In the original video the Red individual wins the game of Hangman, but in AVAH(D) they have seemingly lost, as the hang(ed) man is not yet complete (And are very upset about it). This implies that either the Teal Carapacian just got luckier than their video counterpart or  the Teal Carapacian has LEARNED of the Red Carapacians tricks since last game.

another thing i tend to think about with this. i also just think in chapter 5 there's a theme of care and dependency. the flowers have extreme guilt over being taken care of by asgore. flowery conceptualizes himself as weak and useless. in the dark world, his fantasy, he tries to return the care given to him to asgore to "make up for" asgore taking care of him when he should've died decades ago. it's an extreme example, but i also resonate with his feeling.

when your body or mind puts you in a situation where your reliance on other people becomes really explicit, you're trained by the world to see that as shameful or to see yourself as deficient. your efforts to ignore your needs just to avoid "being a burden," will leave you worse off. you punish yourself because of deeply internalized ableism.

regardless, even by virtue of being a living thing on this planet, you are already designed to need others. you have to listen to your body's needs even against a society that teaches you you shouldn't. you have to be okay with the fact that you have needs. sometimes your needs are different or are greater than the person next to you, and all you can do is listen to your body and turn to others when you need them. you're still a person when you need people.
