Lil season one klaus for yâall
vanya & klaus parallels part 4
part 1 part 2 part 3Â
part 5Â part 6Â part 7Â part 8
You've heard this refrain before -- giving money to homeless people is not the best way to help them because it might be squandered, or spen
âResearchers gave 50 recently homeless people a lump sum of 7,500 Canadian dollars (nearly $5,700). They followed the cash recipientsâ life over 12-18 months and compared their outcomes to that of a control group who didnât receive the payment. The preliminary findings, which will be peer-reviewed next year, show that those who received cash were able to find stable housing faster, on average. By comparison, those who didnât receive cash lagged about 12 months behind in securing more permanent housing.
People who received cash were able to access the food they needed to live faster. Nearly 70% did after one month, and maintained greater food security throughout the year. The recipients spent more on food, clothing and rent, while there was a 39% decrease in spending on goods like alcohol, cigarettes or drugs.â
Itâs almost like people self medicate to survive intense stress like, idk, not having the cash to live anywhere but outdoors. People who are extremely poor do not want to be poor, we WANT to be safe and have autonomy in our lives but capitalism makes that impossible for some people.
And drug/alcohol abuse, even when prioritized over eating and other necessities, isnât some kind of alien mindset, itâs very often a matter of not having the resources to actually be safe and fully meet your actual needs so you have to cope somehow with the suffering that deprivation causes.
This is a perfect example of the kind of important study that shouldnât NEED to be done, but does need to be done so we can once and for all implement policies that actually help people.
i think itâs important that it was a lump sum all at once, instead of little amounts intermittently. If youâre homeless and, say, addicted to alcohol or meth or whatever, and someone gives you $20 a day, for 12 months, what are you gonna do with that? $20 isnât enough to pay for a place to sleep that night. You can get some food, but you canât stock up on anything because you have nowhere to put it. You canât buy a new pair of shoes. You canât pay for medication. You canât really save it up because what are you gonna do, walk around with $5000 worth of twenties in your pocket? until they get lost or stolen and you never got anything out of that money? But you can go and get $20 worth of alcohol and maybe the rest of your day will suck a little less.
But if you get that $5000 all at once and then nothing for the rest of the year, thatâs enough to get an apartment for a month, and your meds, and food, and clothes, and then well hey you can look for a job (and you have a mailing address, wow!).
if youâre in a shit situation getting dribs and drabs of money can keep you alive but it wonât help you really change your circumstances, but a large lump sum can do that.
I have brought this study up to multiple people who despite the research, still cannot break their stereotypical image of people who are homeless.
Had to be there I guess

Ya'll be like "Shang was having a bi freak out, realizing he was into Ping". NO HE WASN'T. He already knew he was into men. His bisexual freak out was when he realized Ping was Mulan and hey maybe he's into girls too whatdoya know?
Legit you think a bi man who has always been in such a male-dominated space like the army hadn't already figured out that he liked men? Come oooonnnn... It's women he has rarely had contact with and has no idea how to talk to or flirt with (you fight good) I WILL DIE ON THIS HILL.
In "A Girl Worth Fighting For" Shang has zero lines I REST MY FUCKING CASE.

ppl donât like to imagine bi ppl coming to terms with being bi after identifying as gay bc they think thatâs a downgrade lol. Thatâs why thereâs like 100000 stories about cishets realizing they were bi and like 2 of gay ppl realizing they were bi.

Please dont forget addicts when youre advocating for people with highly stigmatized mental illnesses. Addiction is a disorder and it deserves just as much visibility, acceptance and support as any other stigmatized mental illness.
job applications just keep getting weirderâŚ..
pro jobseeking tip: never answer these surveys honestly
also a tip: if they have a question like âEverybody steals from work sometimesâ answer âdisagree.â I found this out when i was working as a hiring manager and the company i worked for started instituting these tests for managerial hires or promotions. My boss and I were promoting someone and she failed the test because she answered that question as âslightly agreeâ which in the results tells them that she is someone likely to steal because she believes everyone does it. When we asked her about her answer, it turns out she picked what she did because sheâs cynical and does assume that people steal but didnt agree with them doing so. she almost sued the company for not promoting her based on that but chose to leave instead. We lost a good employee because corporate decided these tests were a good way to screen for âgoodâ employees. tldr these things are poorly designed, ambiguously worded, and structured in ways that are designed to eliminate people because the intention of the questions is never made clear. these tests are evil.
this sounds like an ableist disaster for people who arenât neurotypical and who struggle with reading signalsÂ
When I went to get diagnosed with ADHD, the neuropsychologist couldnât figure out what was going on, because on paper Iâm apparently floridly psychotic.  No, the questions are imprecise, and I am hyper-literal and extremely honest. Â
âDo you often see things that other people do not see?â Â Yes.Â
The question I was answering:  âAre you especially observant?â
The question the test was actually asking:  âAre you having visual hallucinations?âÂ
âDoes your environment ever have special messages for you?â Â Yes. Â
The question I was answering:  âDoes the sudden sight of a rainbow during a   bout of doubt and self-loathing make you feel as though the world is trying to cheer you up?â
The question the test was actually asking:  âDo you believe that your toaster is trying to convince you that the neighbors are spying on you?â
Five years later, I bombed a psych eval for a park ranger job for the same sort of thing. Â Tread carefully, darlings. Â
^^^^ that is actually such a huge issue with diagnosis!!!! and Iâve thought I didnât experience symptoms for ages that I actually clearly had all along because of things being phrased super weirdly and confusingly :(
And this is why McDonaldâs never called me after I applied
Yeah, this is why this kind of thing in job apps needs to be illegal. A lot of discrimination is well hidden.
Oh! That explains why even having friends and my then-husband proofread these every time didnât even work. They may not be as weird as me, but theyâre not neurotypical. We all read the questions tantefledermaus mentioned as observational skills!
Fuck. This explains why Iâve failed all of these fucking things.
My sister said to answer these as if you were a really passive person who relied on management/authority to tell you exactly what to do/think.
Protip: my Dad is a hiring manager at Home Depot and he told me the system they use (with the stupidass pointless 500 question quiz) is designed so it filters out people with neutral answers. Several months ago I applied for numerous jobs, each of which required their own dumbass tests. To save time (and my sanity) i would click the âsometimesâ or middle option for nearly every question unless it was serious. Nobody every called me back. Hell only 1 of the 8 places i applied to even messaged me back saying âthank you but we have gone with someone elseâ. Your applications wont even get seen unless you âpassâ the quiz.
So when all yall do fill out these dumb things be sure to pick strong yes or no answers. Never âmaybeâ or âslighty agree/disagreeâ
Thank you for that, cause I do that a lot. Like I legit feel neutral on some of those questions. Tumblr with the life hacks
Itâs really bad for someone who isnât neurotypical because often, these questions do contain language meant to filter us out.
For me, I tend to notice the ones meant to filter out people with ADD, like myself. For example âdo you have trouble focusing on one taskâ or âdo you like to move around.â My normal answers to these would be âyes, but I have it under controlâ and âof course, no one can sit still for hoursâ. But corporations read them as âdo not hireâ
Itâs a bunch of BS. So I answer them like a yes man from office space. Works pretty well.
Someone once told me also, I think it was regarding the Macyâs job application I had filled out, that they will ask you the same question a few different ways in order to weed out people who arenât fluent in English. Basically, if you answer âStrongly Agreeâ to the question worded one way and then âSomewhat Agreeâ to the same question worded differently, they write you off as not fluent in English (which is unfair) and you are less likely to get hired because of this (which is racist!!!).
My dad gave me this mining job straight out of highschool, so Iâve never had to do one of these. I dread the day I do
So basically just fake it until you make it
This is fricked up.
TDLR: When applying for a job lie as much as you can get away with
I was a hiring manager for years. If i can help with anything, let me know.
