I haven’t really seen anyone mention this on Tumblr but bro the whole thing with Cole ( colehairlesscat on TikTok/ a.k.a Nirami’s friend ) is something else
You got a Black man who says nigga once and all the white folks are like “😱😱😱😱 I thought you were wholesome!” but at the same time white folks love making jokes about saying n word and always try saying the n word, make it make sense
I bet you this be the same people immediately forgiving white creators for being antiblack but then when Black people are just being themselves, all of a sudden it’s “😱😱😱😱😱😱 you can’t say that!” I’m not your fucking pet, don’t ever address me like that
For more context on what happened, here’s his vid talking about it

I needed a questioned narrative this season simply for someone to point out to Lestat how fucked up his muse of Louis was because [s1&2 Daniel Molloy voice] what do you mean he hallucinated his domestic abuse victim clothed in memorable garments from that era but also as completely silent and approving??? You’re telling me no one thought about how Louis was emotionally beat down in to silent complacency over those years in that townhouse and how that was clearly a very bad thing??? Sure Louis was in love, but he was in love with his abuser he was miserable. Did we forget how the scene in 1.07 where Lestat is draining the guy into the decanter while the three of them are at the table, going on and on with scathing remarks to the dying man about Louis never honoring the blood like he should while Louis just sits curled in on himself and thousand-yard-stares down at the tabletop and how this is a nauseatingly realistic portrayal of what that type of abuse looks and feels like?? Or about the way Louis didn’t say more than a sentence or two before going totally wordless out of complete terror and then staying that way because Lestat’s words disarmed him in a manner he cannot articulate even a century later in 1.01 at the church, the same night he’s immediately separated from his family by Lestat (which, intentionally written like this or not is a fucking massive abuse tactic), and that’s the version of Louis that Lestat’s subconscious manifests an overtly romanticized hallucination of—a version which says zero words, only offers his completely silent approval, then gets out of Lestat’s way?? Are you fucking kidding me???? You know what isn’t a hallucination? The domestic violence/abuse content warnings preceding multiple s1 episodes. The abuse is canon, it’s a major part of IWtV and that story does not exist without it, the narrative frames it as a very real and very bad thing, we saw it with our eyeballs and still can go watch those episodes!!! I feel like I’m going insane.
Which leads me to trying to make any sort of sense as to why did the writers choose to shape the Louis muse as a silent but approving version of himself the night he began the real relationship with his abuser? How did this show that I have applauded for its depiction of what domestic violence and emotional abuse look like in the first and second season not take that part into consideration when shaping this one? Because the audience does, so are we meant to think that happy in silence is how Lestat genuinely believed Louis felt at the time? Are we supposed to assume that Louis’ s1&2 POV (and Claudia’s diaries) are much further inaccurate, including about the misery and abuse? Is it that Lestat subconsciously remembers Louis like that because it wasn’t actually all bad; not when Louis would just stop arguing and support him :) then everyone was quite happy!?? Because any of those would be the flimsiest and most disrespectful retcon bullshit I’ve ever heard of.
But I don’t think anyone actually thought that much into it, honestly, which almost feels worse in a way. My actual guess is that the only thoughts put into the decision making here didn’t extend beyond 1: showing that Lestat views Louis specifically through a romanticized lens—done by making Louis’ muse look prettier than he did the night of their wedding and to have him seem nothing but kind to and good for Lestat and 2: juxtaposing the the way Lestat “thinks about” Louis & Nicki—Louis’ muse has no dialogue, appears content, approving, and supportive, he doesn’t linger vs Nicki’s muse who is always around and never stops making comments/talking/yelling/tormenting Lestat and only stops when Lestat is forced to go out into the sun to make him. Louis’ muse is depicted as a beautified version of himself the night their relationship started, when his vampiric life started; Nicki’s muse is depicted as the gory, maimed version of himself the night their relationship ended, when his vampiric life ended and he died in. While Lestat speaks to neither he doesn’t even directly acknowledge Nicki’s muse to the degree he does Louis’, which he makes eye contact with a few times and follows into the hall. A lot of lengths were taken to show them in opposition to each other, so we can see that Lestat “views” Louis and Nicki, his two great loves, as differently as possible. This is what I think the thought process probably was in shaping these two muses. I fucking hate it because it doesn’t do Nicki’s character justice in a way that makes sense given what we’ve seen, so it’s boring and lazy already just for that, but beyond that it doesn’t even hold up past any sort of cursory surface level analysis because of all the abuse in season one.
Idk. This one is personal to me so maybe I am too close to it to have an objective opinion. Genuinely, please feel free to point out where I’m wrong, in good faith. But I’m really really bitter about how all of this was handled this season, the shaping of Louis’ muse (I have soooo many words about Claudia’s muse too, who they also had stay completely silent and removed the anger from…that post is coming) is just a part of it.
My perfect s4 cold open? Well, in no particular order
1: Cut back to Lestat right where we left him on the balcony. He goes back to start recording again. “now where were we, my purchasęr magnifique? i”—tape recorder stutters, remainder of the roll catches fire. *shot of empty box at Lestat’s feet labeled ‘last box of tape’*—“oh no, i am out of tàpe after only 57 albums :( oh well. this was getting old anyways ;)” *cheeky self-aware look directly into the camera* *Season 4 intro plays*
2: Lemuel stops album 57–side A on his and bid-winner Louis’ record player. “I can’t take it anymore! This story makes NO sense, the big events don’t lead anywhere, and I’m a just a remembered-when-convenient off-screen plot device rather than a character!” *Cut to Louis, who looks as devastatingly sad as he does beautiful.* He picks up his iPad and begins to scroll. Lemuel sighs, sits down beside him. ‘Well, at least you didn’t waste a ton of money on these.” *incriminating silence* “Right?” *silence* “…right, Loui—” *Smash cut to S4 intro—some remixed TVL song over images of the remaining 111 records being chucked into the nearest dumpster which is promptly set on fire, then snapshots of Lemuel & Christine Claire teaming up and co-litigating his and Louis’ ensuing vampire divorce*
3. This one would all be done in a single shot by a single camera. Open to an extreme closeup of the needle of a record player skipping across the surface of 57-A in time to the series of violent rhythmic thuds that can be heard somewhere in the distance. The camera slowly zooms out as the same same little snippet of the recording replays over and over as the room shakes with the sounds, as dust falls from somewhere overhead, as things rattle in time, etc. Frame continues to pull back, revealing the entire music box from the auction that the skipping record player is housed in, and finally, the room in which it now sits: the interior of Daniel’s apartment from s1e01 is revealed just fully enough to be recognized before he and Armand, tangled together in the throes of passion, suddenly crash through the bedroom wall right into the music box and all the remaining records housed within. They don’t even notice and nor does it cause them to pause. *Cue s4 intro which is just an artsy montage of DM fucking on top of the smashed The Failures records and in the midst of all the shit that was told incorrectly about their stories in s3 because this is MY perfect s4 cold open, okay?? Big Boss can even be the soundtrack for this one because ironic ‘fuck you’ reasons, idc*
Would also accept a self-aware retcon option where it turns out the whole of s3 was just a bad dream after Lestat got hit on the head by the fuck-ass plank piano during the hurricane at the end of 2.08. Louis, kneeling over him: “Are you okay? You’ve been unconscious for the past 7 hours right here on the floor of our New Orleans townhouse in the year 2022, which it still is.” Lestat, holding his head in horror: “I think I might be racist.”

I don't think devil's minion will be canon. they're going to make it be one-sided while daniel thinks armand is an ugly pathetic gremlin just like they did to lesmand because that’s what the writers think about armand now that he’s brown
Completely agree, unfortunately. This is such a fear I have for s4 that I just haven’t been able to shake because (alongside the racism now baked into the text) it’s already set up where it could go exactly that route based on what we’ve been shown imo—Armand’s history of assuming physical intimacy and/or blood sharing equals companionship being doubled down on this season, Armand being the only one to use the term “companion”, Daniel only ever being implied to be the companion to whom he refers when he does, neither one of them explicitly saying it’s the other they’re involved with, we’re just led to assume, literally zero on-screen romance post one-sided love confession, plus all the seemingly one-sided stalking-from-the-shadows years.
I know I need to brace myself to be as disgusted and disappointed as I will be when they likely handle DM just as poorly as everything they did in s3 for the same terrible reasons….but until I’m forced to see it on my TV screen with my own two eyeballs I’m enjoying living in the beautiful land of delusion where at some point before s4 drops AMC suddenly becomes so appalled by how shitty and racist TVL turned out they fire everyone responsible and to show they are very sorry and have truly learned their lesson they are transparent and intentional in hiring only the writers and other creatives that will bring the show back to the glory of s1&2 and we get the DM we deserve and the Lesmand we were robbed of and I never have to hear Rolin Jones trying to Word of God his way to a coherent narrative again.
I know what people mean when they say Lestat Stans (lmao ykwim what up Stan Rice) or talk about only Lestat fans being happy, like I know it's short hands for Gen Xers who can't read and like to be racist in a kind of "guess what I'm doing" sort of way, or god help me millennials who never left the 00s hot topic not like other girls mines (though arguably this behavior is fart joke aisle in Spencer's gifts), but as someone who has had a lifelong connection to Lestat, and for a time in my childhood he was my beloved unhealthy coping mechanism #mymaladaptiveblorbo, I am always so disoriented for 10-30 seconds after reading something like that because that is NOT Lestat, what DO YOU MEEEEEAN LESTAT FANS ARE HAPPY AND THIS IS FOR LESTAT FANS AIN'T NO WAY and I'm just like... Sam Reid was preparing to be Lestat ok, he was probably doing blood rituals in Anne Rice's tomb, he was so ready. You could see it, you could feel it, and now he's... how many contracts did he sign? Is he... are they... how can they...
Since the budget seems to be a big excuse reason as to why the TVL season wasn’t as strong as 1 and 2 (according to actors and/or showrunners etc) let’s take a look at where it was misspent and misused. I know I know here we go again complaining about TVL- there’s too much to bitch about to let it go, okay?
These things either are too expensive and the purpose of the scene can be established via a different scene, or it has no narrative or character purpose and is a waste of time and money. I’ll also explain why I chose the scenes as a waste of time and/or money:
• Concert #1 w/Lestat sloshing his pants:
The purpose of this concert is to establish the new feel of the show, the genre switch (it is a sub-genre switch) and to introduce the band members. But these things could have been accomplished another way. Not only is the feel of the season unpalatable, the band could have been introduced when Lestat barged in on their practice. Think of the scenes in terms of an itemized invoice.
There is the set design, materials + labor, sound labor, wardrobe materials + labor etc
The venue or “setting”, which is either built with materials +/or rent + labor/maintenance + on call safety
Crowd extras, with maybe a few dozen at any given time. Yes, they could throw in some crew to fill in the space, but crew is needed for other things. Extras cost money.
The actors, during the first concert alone is SR, 4 band members, EB, manager actress, and BJ EB. Possibly the other two vampires as well.
• Baby Jenks + Elevator + OD
By the end of the season it is clear that Baby Jenks only served 1 purpose, and that purpose could have been given to another character. She was meant to distract/dose Lestat so he could be attacked by the CoD. We have several scenes with her where that time could have been given to Daniel, Armand, or Louis.
Baby Jenks in the crowd + onstage to be drained. Time is money, sets and settings and film is money + labor.
OD scene is unnecessary and has no narrative use. She warns Lestat in a sense, but this warning is not needed as the season does not pay off this warning from her soul/ghost. The Failures do not need to be pre-cognitively spoken to us or Lestat. There is no moment later on when her warning feels like a proper foreshadowing.
Elevator sex scene: You have several actors, a new set design, a new camera set up, and likely the need of an intimacy coordinator. RJ specifically noting that he brought the bell boy in before AMC could say no feels like a pathetic ploy for LGBTQ+ points in a show that is already respected in that demographic. There is no reason for this elevator foursome.
The role of Baby Jenks could have easily been given to Dee. Dee could have drugged Lestat, could have been distracting him at the party etc.
• Hotel Hall Vampire Fight
I’m confident stating that this scene could have been rewritten to be a more isolated, maybe 2 on 2 altercation. Or 3 on 1 until Daniel arrives. But the real take away here is that the scene accomplished nothing that can’t be handled another way. Lestat fleeing to reunite with Gabriella could have been done via him fleeing to the tour bus alone, while Gabriella waits for him. Why does he flee? Because he’s an emotional basket case and he’s lonely and miserable and missing Louis and his mom. It’s not that complicated to let character motives lead the way.
Hallway fight is another set which means more materials + labor. There are also several actors, along with stunt doubles and action coordinators. Special effects are also used here.
The window flight, even with green screen, is more labor + equipment for flight.
• Gabriella and Lestat: Strip Club & Flight
We already know Lestat can fly, so we once again are wasting money on equipment and coordinators, when this time and money can be put in better, more narratively fleshed out scenes. We did not get the tower fight or the carriage being destroyed, but we got this and the strip club? This choice feels like poor planning, writing, and tbh poor money management. What purpose does the strip club serve, except to show us that Gabriella wants the GC and is attracted to women? This can be accomplished on the tour bus, without the need to build more sets, film on locations, or pay for more unnecessary labor. Since I’ve been repeating a lot of the same cost breakdowns, I’m not going to do it every time. But the big one is always that time is labor, and labor is always ALWAYS a huge cost that most companies want to cut.
• Magnus music video
I suppose this scene is liked well enough because it gives us some levity. But my argument against this scene is that 1- it’s not telling us anything about Lestat we don’t already know (he lies and hides and doesn’t talk about his past) and 2 - it’s not building Magnus up as a character so much as it’s making light of his predatory obsession with Lestat. Which isn’t a bad thing, but it should MEAN something to justify the signed check for bringing such an unnecessary scene to life, and it simply does not meet the criteria that would make it so.
• Lestat crashing the car
I don’t think this needs to be elaborated on much. The scene was shot using practical effects, which can be costly with materials and, again, that word that companies hate: LABOR. Lestat very well could have trashed the tour bus. He could have played a real life rock star and destroyed a hotel room. We didn’t need this scene. We already know Lestat is about to break down via the previous scene re: Nicki’s death.
• Armand’s AA meeting
No payoff, no purpose. What is he addicted to? We are not given any subtext to go off of. I suppose we could call the stalking a form of addiction, but the correlation to a need for AA isn’t there. We are not presented with the stalking as a thing that is hurtful to Armand. It is presented as romantic. Therefore, what exactly is Armand addicted to? We also could assume the only purpose of the AA meeting is for Armand to meet and use Alex for his plans. However, once again costs should contribute to this decision. Another set, more crew, more film, more hours. Armand could have met Alex any other way.
• Lestat and Armand tour bus bullshit
I hate this scene because it tells us nothing we don’t already figure out by the time we get to the concert and the big boss song. Luckily this time, the tour bus is already there. The shower is already there. But! Now we need possibly another intimacy coordinator session for Lestat’s nudity. We need time and crew and the scene gives us nothing for character development either. We learn nothing new that matters later. Armand warning Lestat about the GC and the other vampires means nothing by the time we get to episode 7.
• Bowling alley meltdown
The scene itself isn’t exactly a waste, but it becomes a waste because of the trash dialogue. The implications and outright “confirmation” re: Daniel’s turning are highly suspect here, as this is from Lestat’s POV. IMO, we didn’t need bowling as part of the season either way. It’s silly and unnecessary.
• More concerts because a few weren’t enough…?
This is more a general thing because we truly did not need this many concerts. As stated before re: Lestat’s first concert- it’s expensive, and narratively gives us nothing new we didn’t already know.
• Lestat burning in the sun repeatedly for…?
This is scene makes no sense because we spend the season with Lestat not showing how much he loves music. Suddenly he wants to hurt himself to get one thing in one song right, according to his standards. Costly, unnecessary, silly.
• Regina. Just everything Regina.
As much as people love Delainey, the Regina character was absolutely unnecessary with how things turned out. Her purpose being only to torment Louis per Armand- this doesn’t fit with anything else in the season or previous ones. Not to mention a lot of her dialogue is awful chat gpt trash. They could have made her into a vampire by the end, and give her an original plot that involves the next season QOTD. I mean, she is a woman, she has been jerked around by two male vampires- is there any reason for her to not be on Akasha’s side? She could’ve served a purpose, but what they did with her feels like an ass pull in the worst ways.
• Butcher shop
Not only is this scene horrendous for all the reasons many of us have already spoken of, but for budget reasons it is also unjustified. What do we find out here that even matters? That Armand was 12 when he was sold? That’s it. That’s the only new thing we actually need from this scene. Yes, I believe Louis and Armand needed to have it out about everything, but this doesn’t qualify or meet those expectations or needs. There is no build up to this scene, Louis and Armand don’t show any lingering resentment or hurt re: their companionship ending, and we don’t see them before this scene even hint at a desire to at least fight things out between them. They have SO MUCH to discuss. They don’t owe each other anything, but they were together for almost 80 gd years. This scene doesn’t come close to the weight their relationship actually holds to each of them. The set, the time, the reshoots, the labor- it all adds up and for not much use or purpose.
Now these are just the ones I cared to talk about right now, but there are definitely more than this. I’ve only rewatched the episodes once each so I’m undoubtedly forgetting stuff. Either way, every single one of these scenes could have been combined with something else, eliminated entirely, or rewritten to fit the budget better. I’d love to hear about them if anyone takes the time to read this and have any other scenes to add!
from meeting lestat for the first time all the way to killing him, louis goes through what feels like a lifetime of character development in the first seven episodes. why does lestat in tvl have a one note character arc of grappling with his mother's abuse of him? why does it take seven whole episodes to do it, all the while he hasn't meaningfully changed/developed in any other way?
So many women are looking for a “masc lesbian” but what they really mean is that they want a top who has their life together lmao
“You got masc vibes even though you are a femme” do I? Or do you just think that confidence and competence are inherently linked to masculinity?
Like if you want someone to top you till you cry then you should just say that. There are many women who can provide, many of them femme.
But also it’s kind of rude to assign gender roles and sexual preferences to someone just because they’re masc. just because she wears a snapback that doesn’t mean she’s a top or able to fix your car or whatever.

Helen of Troy Louis expectations: he’s so sexy they’re all ready to go to war for him
Helen of Troy Louis reality: any of these men’s hideous actions is actually Louis’s fault
"I don't see color" people, meanwhile they've honed onto your Blackness like a bull to red 🤣
woc characters get put on a pedestal in their fandoms in a way that is so boring and itself kinda dehumanising. i dont just wanna hear about how they’re flawless queens, i want them to feel specific and real. and i understand why it happens, especially with younger fans, but fandom of these characters that’s oriented more around defending them from haters rather than engaging with them (beyond empty, repetitive adulation) is so… limiting and profoundly boring. you could explore these characters on their own merit instead you neglect any potential interiority, humanity, complexity in favour of letting rando haters be a hair trigger and building your faves up as impenetrable fortresses against them. and then its just girlboss with a coat of brown paint
i ask if someone has aromantic headcanons, they say they do, i ask if theyre aromantic headcanons or shoehorning characters they dont like into the aroace box so they dont have to think about them anymore, they ask what the difference is, i pull out a graph explaining the difference, "theyre aromantic headcanons," i look inside, its shoehorning characters they dont like into the aroace box so they dont have to think about them anymore
