Marsh mallow (Althaea officinalis)

Bog mallow (Sidalcea oregana ssp. spicata)

Swamp mallow (Hibiscus moscheutos)

I’ve never heard of a fen mallow, but sometimes saltmarsh mallows (Kosteletzkya virginica) are called the Virginia fen rose

And yes, marsh mallows are where marshmallows got their name :) marshmallows used to be made with the roots of marsh mallows

Something about the bastardization of the story time and time again proves that nobody in power really cares about the people who would resonate with King’s Carrie White. A girl so ugly and repulsive she’s been removed from her own story. The societal need for women and girls to be constantly perceived as attractive is what fuels a fair amount of her torment in the book, but that person isn’t even allowed to exist on the screen. We cannot empathize with her; it isn’t allowed. It’s fascinating to me.

I am crocheting this bulky scrapghan for the partner with whom I just broke up, and I asked him today if there was anything I should take from his house as we began our transition to friendship. He told me to take the blanket, because it makes him sad to see it.

I have made it clear that I am going to finish it, because it is so damn close to being done. It will go back to him once complete, and it was going to come home with me at some point anyway to sew in a liner, so eh. But our "experimental" renovation room was a good excuse to get an updated picture of the beast.

I got a message about how this is supposedly mean. I am holding your hand when I say that refusing womanhood and clinging onto girlhood will not save you from the realities of adulthood. I am not saying you are not young. 26 is incredibly young. you are free to love the concepts and media associated with girlhood but there is much to love about womanhood that you are not seeing. there is something to be said for being free of the shackles of girlhood and childhood. you are an autonomous being. you have power over your life and the paths you will take. it is easier to see the paths when you start taking yourself seriously instead of waiting for others to do so. no one is saying you have to be serious. womanhood is joy too. a different shade of yellow
