Born to be wild
The lady on the scooter was an artist named SzabĂł Ăva (sadly she passed away 4 years ago). She decorated the scooter herself, and as far as I know she could have embroidered the dress herself too, as she was absolutely skilled at the craft and often gave away tapestries to churches. Â
She worked on cars too (as well as easter eggs, besides teaching folk dance):
She learned the art of Kalocsa patterns from her mother and she believed in keeping the folk motifs alive so passionately that she reportedly told sheâd paint an entire house or airplane kalocsai if anyone asked her.

In a bit of a denial spiral after talking to my mom, even though I was background for about two thirds of the conversation, watching other alters say things I actually did not particularly want to say. Ive had a few bizarre new alters/fragments form recently and its freaking me out. Why are they like that?
And some of my religious obsessions are slightly resurfacing. I keep having the thought of "What if my parents religion is all completely true and Ive doomed us all to eternal conscious torment?" And also just the general sense that Im fucking everything up and past some point of no return, no saving. I wonder if theres a scared middle or teen alter somewhere. Ive had a few resurface from teen years in the last few months.
Feeling frustrated with how distressed I feel, how many alters i have now, and why theyre here. I feel so uncertain. Dont like it.

I hate being mentally ill, I feel like the moment im out of one trigger or one traumaversary or one flare up another starts up and I cant ever get a moment of stability where its my turn again to take care of people and be the pillar. No there's always a reason for me to be out of it and making life difficult. As a teen I was so set on recovering and putting everything behind me, then I settled for seasons and periods of symptoms for the rest of my life, good months and bad months. Now I get maybe a good hour before im useless again. I hate being mentally ill
"i would kill a pedophile to protect my child" ok but would you teach your child how to say no? even to adults? even to adults you like? would you teach your child the words "penis" and "vulva" and then use them? would you let them ask questions about their body? would you answer them honestly? would you learn how to cope with your feelings when you talk about human bodies, so they don't feel ashamed? would you set a positive example for how you talk about your body? would you tell your child they don't have to hug or kiss anyone? would you tell your family the same? would you stand by them when they refuse to hug someone? even someone you know has never done anything to hurt them? would you let your child avoid food they don't like? would you let you child avoid people they don't like? would you believe them? would you sit in the discomfort of not knowing all the answers and not take it out on them? would you love your child the same if someone did hurt them? would you make them feel valued just as they are? would you let them talk to doctors or nurses in private? would you let them express their feelings? would you show interest in their life? would you let your child say no to you? would you help your child feel safe coming to you when they make a mistake? would you apologize to your child? would you believe them? would you put aside your anger to focus on what would make your child feel safe and loved? would you put your ego aside for your child? would you take your child's concerns seriously? would you listen to your child? would you believe them?
I would both do all those things AND kill a pedo to protect my child, if I had to.
Yesss
i'm gonna add this comment by @papercrane:
"Maya angelou's family killed a pedophile that raped her, and that just traumatized her more. "I thought that I had caused the manâs death, because I had spoken his name. That was my seven-and-a-half-year logic. So I stopped talking for five years." Read I know why the caged bird sings."
and here is my comment:
the fantasy of killing a pedophile to defend your child is... an escape from reality. as with all fantasies where a single act of violence stands for a lifetime of effortful care. it lets us off the hook for the day to day labor of actually protecting the human beings around us. it gives us an excuse to look away from what abuse actually looks like.
it allows us to ignore that setting boundaries is a daily practice. it allows us to ignore the subtle ways in which we punish children for having boundaries. it allows us not to think about things we can do, the effort we can put in, in smaller repeated ways, to be kind and caring. to be safe to talk to.
it is a grand gesture that, were you to actually go through with it, would neither prevent the harm that you fear nor help your child to heal from it. it is an idea with no bearing on reality for 99.99% of people, while rape and abuse are a reality for a large fraction of people.
it is not useful to imagine killing a pedophile. it is not useful to claim you would kill a pedophile. it wouldn't be useful to actually attempt to kill a pedophile in almost any situation.
it is useful to think about how you can help your child know they can get help. they can say no. they can tell adults to stop. they deserve to be comfortable. they deserve to be informed.
the entire point of the post is that your child will not be saved by your imagined wrath. the entire point is that your day to day actions, and your attitude towards children as people, are more impactful to your child's well-being. far more realistic. more important.
not least because your child doesn't need you to be wrathful. they need your love. they need care. they need attention.
meanwhile, the public performance of wanting to kill child abusers doesn't do anything to child abusers. most child abusers believe they are doing the right thing for their children.
saying you want to kill abusers doesn't signal anything good to children, either. as others have said, it makes children more afraid to speak up and ask for help. that might be their mom, their coach, their troop leader. it gives those abusers leverage; the children cannot tell if they want things to be stable.
and it makes it harder for adults to BELIEVE children, too! because if their child was really abused, then they've staked their honor on committing that violence, even if it was against their brother or spouse or grandpa or pastor or neighbor or their other kid's favorite babysitter. and if they don't want to do that, well... then they must decide whether they believe completely their child, or whether their child's boundaries must really be respected, or... if maybe it's impossible to know.
how many abuse survivors have tried to disclose, only to be told that so-and-so wouldn't do that, or they didn't mean it, because so-and-so loves you and we all like so-and-so. this dichotomy goes both ways, psychologically. if a child abuser is entirely evil and has to be killed, then someone who's not entirely evil and i don't want to kill can't be a child abuser. this must be something else. there must be a mistake.
you can not adequately protect your children from abuse if you hold on to this idea. i am telling you. your insistence that killing pedophiles will protect your children is holding you back. it is not useful. it is not cute to talk about how much you want to do a single act of violence to abusers as if that would ever be enough to outrun the culture of abuse and the dehumanization of children in our society. you cannot cling to this like a talisman that would ward off any harm your children may come to. you cannot escape reality by telling yourself you'd be a total badass and kill that bad guy dead. this is not helpful.

I don't think it's discussed enough how dissociative amnesia, specifically surrounding childhood memories, can influence you to hoard physical objects. Even when they seem meaningless or hold no specific memories, they become anchors for you to a self you have lost.
For example, I have about ten folders from my early school days sitting in my room. I never look at them. I don't recall anything inside of them, and I have no nostalgia for the work inside, but a large part of me is terrified to throw them away. In my head, to do so would feel like I was losing a part of my lifeâa part that though I can't remember, I desperately wish to get back.
These objects are useless to me now, but they were once cherished by my younger self, meticulously created. They are my connection to the thoughts and feelings of my past that I have lost to this disorder. I am constantly looking for evidence of who I wasâwhat signs of abuse I gave, how I acted, how I felt. I will never know what I looked like, inside or out. So, I use these meaningless relics to substitute tangible answers, hoping that one day they might re-ignite the childhood joy they once held.
Mildly inconvenient plurality is going "Wow, i hate that guy" to a fictional character and hearing said character say " ???? Fuck you too i guess?", learning that you now have a fictive of said dude.
welcome to fuck you but not really but fuck you anyway. /j -Fane
When fictives have been around for a while eventually they just become normal but it's kinda funny out of context

people need to talk about socially acceptable abuse more. it's literally why we're a system. the spanking that people refuse to believe is physical abuse when there are multiple studies showing it affects kids just as much as any other type of physical abuse. the way a parent might talk down to their kid their entire life and make them feel like they cant make any choices themself or be independent that they only notice when someone else points out how their parent(s) talk too and about them. the parentification of the oldest kid(s) when they have a single parent. the unnoticeable praise towards the "easy" child that all the other children pick up on. the neglect the "easy" child has to go through. a kid being punished for going to their parent(s) when they mess up and need help. not being taught how to clean or cook or do laundry or even how to wash certain parts. it all destroys a kid and it was all socially acceptable in my family and in the communities i grew up in.

Finding out that another piece of my soul got into an oc of mine without realizing it like hey!!! spit that out!! do i have to put child safety locks on this fucking thing!!
@funnier-as-a-system is this anything?
i think what's inhibited me most in the plurality journey was my need to be the "good system". walking into the plural community almost always means being near forced to walk directly into an active warzone. being new to it all, questioning, and getting blasted with a list of criteria made up by some internet guy about what is a sign that your system is "cringe" or "fake" really did something to me.
i admit it, i fell into the trap at first. i ignored new headmates for a while to make sure my headcount was under the imaginary threshold where you're a faker. i tried to silence other headmates when they did things that seemed "too overt".
i thought i was helping in those moments where my mind suddenly changed. i decided that yeah, maybe they were right, maybe i wasn't plural after all, and the best thing to do is to wipe it all like it never happened to fix my "mistakes". i deleted the pluralkit and threw out anything that belonged to any specific headmate until a few days later when someone else would finally take front and remake the pluralkit and fish everything out of the trash again. it happened over, and over, and over. i think there was this inner feeling of well, we'd all be safer if there was no system and i didn't have to deal with the warzone after all.
i wanted to be the good one, the textbook one, the one where those people who would yell faker would even think i was the good example. i think what i wanted was safety. and i thought by wiping everyone's existence and trying to suppress everything i was protecting us.
i guess what i'm trying to say is, please, don't try to be the "good one". don't try to be the one that's "more valid" in order to validate yourself. admit your real headcount to yourself (other people are never entitled to your sys info if you do not want to provide that information), hoard neopronouns, make a tiktok where all your headmates dress up different. you do not have to and should not ever try to appeal to people who most likely will never accept you anyway. you're trying to reach for acceptance that's not there. even if you meet the standards they've given, they will make new ones. and if you're trying to meet the new ones, my only advice is that it's worth so much more to your self discovery to just be honest about what's happening than to lie to fit someone else's definition.
