Perceptor x Reader

• Sliding out of his cupped hands when he crouches in front of the commissary, you can feel people staring at you. And a few of those looks? They’re a tiny bit judgmental, but you know there are a few mixed species couples on base. That the higher-ups seem all for it for some reason. Though you’re pretty sure it falls under the banner of keeping the aliens happy. Turning, your stomach swoops when he mass shifts and reaches to push open the door for you. Stepping into the AC, you catch him ducking and doing an awkward, sideways shuffle to get through the human sized doors.

I feel like everyone would be pretty surprised if Whirl ended up actually getting a partner, especially that absolutely adores him despite his personality. What they don't know is that the reader more than adores Whirl, they're absolutely smitten with him. The reader would fucking pounce on him the moment they get in their habsuite, sometimes even just in an empty hallway. Only thing stopping them from doing it everywhere is the fact Ultra Magnus is gonna put them in the brig for it... honestly, they'd probably still pounce on Whirl in the brig.

And surprise-surprise! The amount of times Whirl picks fights actually lowers, because the reader literally cannot keep their servos off of him.

Gordy the Chimp is such a strong symbol of "natural resources stolen from an exploited continent" and the unintended consequences that can come from that. He was also killed for acting out violently, despite the fact that he was an intelligent creature who was kidnapped and forced to perform under stressful conditions.

Lucky and OJ are framed very similarly in the commercial shooting scene, as are Gordy and Lil Jupe in the sitcom massacre scene: intelligent beings who are othered and exploited for the benefit of white wealth. Like Lucky and Gordy, actors of color are often harshly and disproportionately punished for understandable outbursts, whereas white co-stars get more leeway. I get the sense that these scenes are meant to subtly evoke the way people of color are dehumanized in pop culture and how that contributes to communities of color suffering the effects of climate change more intensely than white communities.

Otis Senior was killed by falling debris; that debris only fell from the sky because of human products upsetting the digestive system of a naturally occurring animal. This feels very similar to the higher rates of cancer in Black and indigenous communities, and the effects of contaminated fish on coastal communities in Hawaii and India and Japan.

When they attempt to photograph this naturally occurring animal in order to profit off of its image, they are blocked by a praying mantis. OJ says he hasn't seen one in a long time: this is likely a reference to climate change lowering the density of the insect population. Furthermore, the praying mantis itself is a strong metaphor for nature growing violent due to human interference: the female mantis does NOT always decapitate and consume the male in natural conditions, but does so very frequently in LAB conditions, leading to a skewed human perception of them.
