When you compare the men and women, it becomes very clear how sexist the uniforms are.

Fish tank progress update 3/25/2021: No more puddles in my dining room! (So far)

So a few days after posting about my new 55 gal tank, I get everything up and running one evening and everything looked good at the time. But the next morning I woke up to a puddle underneath the stand, to which I found that not only was one of the bulkheads attached to the underside of the tank leaking slowly, but one of the pvc pipe joints was as well.

Tried my best to seal the leaks in place, but it was no good. The leaky bulkhead itself was just defective I think, and the pvc pipe just wasn’t glued in properly, so after a stressful day and so many paper towels I had to drain everything, to disassemble the plumbing, basically and redo all of it.

On the plus side I was able to make some tweaks to the plumbing designs that I wish I’d done before, so it was a net positive. Spent days leak testing the new pipes and bulkheads, something which I barely did previously 😫 But it’s been running for well over 12 hours now and so far so good!

This photoshoot is dedicated to all the South Asian women out there who are often underrepresented in media simply because the color of their skin doesn’t fit South Asia’s unreasonable, fair&lovely, eurocentric beauty standards. As we all know, colorism is huge in India and Pakistan. Our society has come to the point where people talk about fighting oppression and uplifting women, but no one actually does anything about it. In this photoshoot I wanted to help represent darker skinned girls in the media, and address an issue through fashion photography.

Little girls grow up with their mothers bantering them about their skin color and how a man would never want them because they’re too dark. This does not help a girl’s self confidence, and it’s important to teach them from a young age that they’re beautiful and worthy in order to prevent them from being a self conscious teen. It’s also important to teach other girls that are lighter skinned to support these girls. In high school, a South Asian boy my friend had a crush on said that she was “too dark” and basically implied that’s the reason why he wouldn’t want a relationship with her. Comments like these are what destroy girl’s self confidence, especially when they’re young, vulnerable and lost. Support and help your sisters!

With the rise of young South Asians taking their pride in jewelry and colorful clothes to Instagram, it’s important not to romanticize the culture. Every culture has it’s good and bad, and although it’s totally fine to appreciate and be grateful for the good, we shouldn’t be silent about the bad especially if we are privileged. While our own South Asians are constantly romanticizing our culture, but not acknowledging it’s dirty laundry they are also promoting social marginalization. Women are treated horribly, LGBTQ isn’t a thing (especially in Pakistan), and more of our afro-south asian brothers and sisters are murdered on the streets the longer we stay silent. Instead of bringing light to these issues, our culture keeps quiet.

I don’t know what the fuck happened to you guys younger than me in your formative years but literally everyyyything you’re describing is something that was included in the concept of ‘best friends’ as it was repeatedly presented to me as a child and teen.

SOmething happened along the way that got so many people thinking that ‘friend’ is ‘anyone and everyone you repeatedly  have ‘friendly’ contact with’ and that’s NOT TRUE.

We need to seriously bring back the word ‘acquaintance’. You need to familiarize yourself with it.

Because all of you complaining about having friend groups full of people who talk shit about you or exclude you? You don’t have friends, those are acquaintances.

Those ‘friends’ who don’t actually know much about you and aren’t that concerned about you? Acquaintances.

Those ‘friends’ you know who wouldn’t go one on one with you shopping, to lunch, to the movies? Acquaintances.

You are acquainted. You know each other. You are friendly towards each other. But that’s it. You’re not friends.

Somewhere along the way the term ‘friend’ became ‘anyone you know and talk to in a positive manner’ and that’s fine but in that case we ALSO need to re-legitimize the term best friend.

Because to a one, every post whining about ‘platonic mates’ and pining for ‘platonic dates’ is literally just someone wishing they had a best friend.

Tl,dr: SJW is an overly broad term and is purposefully so. This allows conservatives to continuously move the dial on what “reasonable” is and to label anyone they deem “overly emotional/invested” as someone not worth listening to. Many “ SJWs” are just marginalized folks trying to speak out and their inability or refusal to fit in to the status quo is what conservatives mock ehen calling people SJWs
