I saw that Guinea pig photo on Instagram and was like “that’s them that’s literally them”

All the similarities/parallels between Project Hail Mary and Iron Lung

Just the general plot first

In both movies:

- The main male character is trapped by himself inside a spacecraft/spacecraft adjacent device in a sci fi alternate universe setting

- There’s something seriously wrong with the stars (and planets) that the male character is trying to solve

- The main female character is named (E)Ava, is the one in charge of the organization that created said spacecraft device, and ultimately ends up sacrificing the male character for the sake of saving humanity

- A large facility exploding ends up being the main factor in the male character being placed inside said spacecraft device

- While on the spacecraft device, the male character encounters an alien presence that can communicate with him and accompanies him for the rest of the movie

- The male character performs a dangerous mission to retrieve a sample of alien life, that ends up going wrong in some fashion

- The male character, who has had the end goal of returning home for the entire movie, decides of his own free will (mostly) in the end that he will not do so

- The male character’s end goal ends up instead being for the information he collected about said alien life to return to the same people who put him in said spacecraft device

Now just the weirdly specific visuals/scenes:

- A lot of scenes with green lighting, and multiple segments where the entire scene is just completely red (such as the petrova line scene + Rocky dragging Ryland to the med bay, and the eye in the sky hallucination + basically the entire ending segment of iron lung)

- The scene of the red of the petrova line reflecting over Ryland’s eyes mirroring the blood that ends up splattering over Simon’s eyes from the window cracking

- Both Simon and Ryland seeing (hallucinating?) themselves in the future, which the audience isn’t able to realize until the very end of the movie

- The similarity between Ryland holding a “funeral” for the dead crew members, where he promises to do a good job in their place, and Simon listening to the recording of the guy who told you to cross the wires, and acknowledging said guy’s sacrifice but claiming he himself is going to live

- Ryland has a problem with throwing around his lab equipment when upset, while Simon will just punch things lol (point is they both have questionable coping mechanisms)

This is all just crazy to me because for two movies that clearly weren’t meant to be related in any way they’re insanely similar 😭 like to the point where when I went to see phm my first reaction was to literally call it “Iron Lung but pg13 hopecore”
