Tldr Amnesty International, global human rights organisation, published a report called 'A growing threat: the anti-rights movement in the UK'. In it is detailed, amongst others, a whole bunch of transphobic groups and organisations, including Beira's Place, JK Rowling's trans exclusionary sexual violence support service. JK Rowling threw a shit fit and got Amnesty to take the report down by threatening libel. This was obviously not enough, because you can't appease a fascist, so now she's going to bankroll a bunch of lawsuits anyway through the JK Rowling Women's Fund.*

"A Scottish field once home to mono-crop barley has become a pollinator’s paradise after intervention from a local trust saw bumblebee numbers increase 100-fold.

Entitled Rewilding Denmarkfield, and run by the Bumblebee Conservation Trust, the project has also seen a sharp increase in the number of species passing through the rolling meadows after they were reclaimed by dozens of wildflower species.

The area north of Perth is about 90 acres in size, and surveys of bumblebees before the project began rarely recorded more than 50. But by 2023, just two years of letting “nature take the lead” that number has topped 4,000, with the number of different bee species doubling.

“This superb variety of plants attracts thousands of pollinators. Many of these plants, such as spear thistle and smooth hawk’s beard, are sometimes branded as ‘weeds’. But they are all native species that are benefiting native wildlife in different ways,” Ecologist Ellie Corsie, who has been managing the project since it began in 2021, said.

“Due to intensive arable farming, with decades of plowing, herbicide, and pesticide use, biodiversity was incredibly low when we started. Wildlife had largely been sanitized from the fields. Rewilding the site has had a remarkable benefit.”

Similar increases have been recorded in the populations of butterflies, with a tripling in the number of these insects seen on average during a ramble through the field.

The numbers of both insects are now so high that Rewilding Denmarkfield offers bee and butterfly safaris to visitors.

Local residents told the Scotsman that on spring and summer days, the field is awash with color, and hums with the sounds of bees and birds. Even as multiple housing developments expand around the Denmarkfield area, the field is a haven for wildlife."

Like it's bad when a "tattoo is undulating" (as opposed to... "drawn in a wave like pattern on the skin"?), or when hair is "wet wheat from a late Summer field" (as opposed to "sort of brownish light yellow that dries lighter, but is not actual wheat stalks growing on someone's head but kind of reminiscent of the color and texture"?), or when when ice cream tastes like midnight at the fair" (as opposed to "ice cream flavour bringing back memories of undefined ice cream flavours that are individually popular but always tied to a memory of late evening at the fair ground and probably smelling vaguely like popcorn and sugar"?).

Six years ago, I replied to a post about money in ATLA. However, while I was able to cover many aspects of Chinese currency history, I still couldn't find a solid exchange rate between gold, silver, and copper. Welp! I've finally found what I've been looking for.

I just came across this piece of information on the Wikipedia article for Sycee (Chinese ingots):

During the Tang dynasty, a standard bi-metallic system of silver and copper coinage was codified with 10 silver coins equal to 1,000 copper cash coins.

The source for this tidbit of information comes from the book, The Stewart Lockhart Collection of Chinese Copper Coins by Sir James Haldane Stewart Lockhart. Here is the actual entry from the 1915 edition of the book (Page XI of the Introduction):

"The standard introduced by the Tang dynasty and continuing in theory until today... in value, 1 gold -- 10 silver -- 1,000 copper, these being the metallic exchange equivalents in China thirteen centuries ago."

I think we've found a good inspiration for the coin conversion system in ATLA:

1 gold coin = 10 silver coins = 1,000 copper coins

The average of weight of a coin during the Tang Dynasty was about 4 grams. The Waterbending Scroll stolen from the pirates was valued at 200 gold coins. According to this website here, as of May 2026, a gram of gold is worth about $152 USD. Meaning...

The Waterbending Scroll would be worth $121,600 USD in today's money.

Katara basically stole the scroll equivalent to a 2026 Mercedes-Benz S-Class Sedan:

And then she joins the Gaang, people who also treat her as an equal and respect her skill and listen to her, and she starts calling them Twinkle Toes and Snoozles and Sugar Queen and Captain Boomerang.
