Not gonna lie this makes me a bit irritated. Here's the real version of this photo:
Instead of a cutesie reference to film censorship it was an explicit statement of defiance of Maryland's criminalization gay sex, which was not repealed until 2002. This wasn't a guy saying "Oh they can't put what I do in the movies according to a completely voluntary industry code" he was saying "The State of Maryland wants to put me in jail for being gay and having gay sex."
It wasn't a guy being cheeky about sex in an ambiguous, cute way. It was a man stating, in no uncertain terms, that a whole state of the United States considered him a criminal for being homosexual.
the thing abt TND being taken from racist 4channers and being used for other things makes me think of how fucking weird and slavey people get about AIβ¦. like how ecstatic people got abt using a made up slur against it that deliberately sounds similar?? i remember seeing this chrome extension where u could whip ur ai with a little cartoon whip to get it to work faster and all the comments thought it was hilariousβ¦.. people r so comfortable just repeating disgustingly racist things and actions but changing one word like that makes it more appropriate. like no thatβs still really fucking weird
me and several other people of color on here were complaining about this when it was still popular and white ppl literally harassed us for it like u said all the βmade upβ slurs and jokes were just based off of racial invoking things, ppl got so mad at me saying clanker and wireback and βrosa sparksβ was racist and its like they needed a reason to be able to use terms that sounded like that bc they cant just do regular racism to brown ppl bc its not Cool to do
If your system doesn't account for the fact that Parents Are Going To Be Abusive/Neglectful/Insufficient then it objectively sucks I'm sorry I don't make the rules
Monitored bank accounts for those under 18. Requiring parental consent for medical procedures. Parental controls on personal devices. "We won't teach this at school because parents are supposed to address it at home." Anything that puts all of the child's power onto the parents' hand, anything that assumes parents are going to inherently do enough of a good job no one else needs to interfer, every single one of these IS going to be used by controlling, neglectful or unprepared parents and already are, and if the system did not account for that very real, tangible, dangerous tendency, then it's not worth fucking anything. You shouldn't make things "for the youth"/with children in mind if you are going to overlook this painfully common aspect of their lives u_u
For the record, when that YouTuber references that Argentina lost its Black population due to "putting them on the front line", that's actually a misconception from earlier scholarship on Black Argentinian history.
Recent scholarship suggests instead that the sharp decline came from a sort of eugenics (my description). Because colorism had an extreme effect on social mobility, Black Argentinians had a motivation to deliberately make their families lighter skinned. A good example of this is that in Argentina, if you could claim to be indigenous you would be freed from enslavement. So the lighter your children's skin was, or the more indigenous heritage they had, the more likely they were to be freed.
I'm clarifying this because I've seen Argentinians (rightfully) push back against this misinformation before, but I don't mean to use this as an excuse to whitewash the racism they commit. In my opinion, the eugenics of colorism in Argentina that lead to Black Argentinians being "mixed out" is just as evil as a deliberately putting them on the frontlines of war.
All of this is sourced from Wikipedia to be completely transparent, and it sources this article from Dr. Erika Denise Edwards.

Thank you for the updated information! Eugenics is pretty terrible regardless, yes!

im realizing very fast that people do not in fact know that sometimes things in stories suck on purpose and it sucking is the point
"this story is misogynistic!!"
>looks inside
>about the pressures of societal misogyny and how its bad
One of the most famous portraits of Winston Churchill is missing from the ChΓ’teau Laurier's Reading Lounge after apparently being replaced w
now for something pretty funny: the famous Winston Churchill photo taken by Yousuf Karsh, hanging in the Chateau Laurier in Ottawa, is missing. some highlights from this CBC article:
- the people who pulled off the heist planned this well, because they replaced the original with a copy
- they don't even know how long it's been missing. only that the original was definitely seen as recently as 2019 and from thereon it's a mystery
- the only reason it came to attention is because a staff member noticed the photo was hanging askew, and the frame didn't match those of other Karsh photos in the same lounge
they don't anticipate it being returned and tbh to pull this off I (very vaguely) believe the thieves sort of deserve it lmao.
@copperbadge
Honestly my favorite part of this entire story is that the portrait was so incredibly iconic because the photographer just irritated the fuck out of Churchhill.Β
Came across this post in my backreading of my tumblr and decided to investigate: the portrait has been found! In Italy, in the collection of a private buyer who wished to remain anonymous but apparently didn't know it was stolen.
The thief/forger was also anonymized for what I'm sure are legal reasons surrounding him being innocent until proven guilty, but in May 2025 he was sentenced, so his name IS reported in his sentencing article.
Not sure what I think about him getting two years; I have a lot of private thoughts and feelings about both prison abolition and the genuine harm that art theft and forgery does to culture, but two years for stealing a portrait of Winston Churchill from a Canadian hotel does seem kinda much.
fun behaviors to give dragons that aren't feline/canine based
cause as much as i love dragons purring and roaring i wish there was just more variety in how they would act
clacking their teeth together to show contentedness/happiness (budgies)
using tails as a defensive weapon in a whip like fashion (iguana)
twitching to express that they're not a threat to members of their species (hognose snake)
feeling calm when eyes are hooded/covered (birds of prey)
head bobbing as a threat display (anoles/bearded dragons)
flattening neck or sides to appear bigger (snakes/lizards)
mantling over food to protect it from hatchmates (birds of prey)
wiggling neck as a courting maneuver (budgies)
audibly grinding teeth as a warning (macaques)
maintained eye contact as a challenge (gorillas)
pounding wings against sides as a threat (gorillas)
slapping other dragons with their claws when their personal bubble is invaded (seals)
hoards used as a site to impress mates (birds of paradise)
snorting when undergoing heightened stress (horses)
making repeated loud noises with surroundings to establish territory (woodpeckers)
loud constant arguments with other dragons when roosting (bats)
building lairs that cause a domino effect of change in the land around them (beavers)
slapping their tails against the ground/water as a warning (beavers)
wiggling tail tip to attract prey (various animals)
wiggling tail tip as a warning (snakes)
plucking or scraping off scales as a sign of stress (parrots)
raising spines/frills as a response to danger and carrying on with their usual business as they believe they're protected (lionfish)
and im not saying canine and feline behaviors are wrong or bad to give a dragon (people wouldn't write dragons with those behaviors if they weren't fun in the first place!) but i feel for creatures that are mythological giant winged lizards that you can do more and get experimental with it. often the more unfamiliar behavior the more dragony the dragon feels
YESSSS YEEEESSSSSS!!!!!!!
Saying "be kind to those different than you who are doing no harm" will have people in your comments attacking you, cussing you out, calling you an abuser and otherwise inundating with endless nonsensical whataboutism the likes rivals real politics and all you said was "smokers are people too"

made in blender, based on a soviet era postcard. this is all rendered in eevee, with the windows and light details drawn with grease pencil. I animated the little people in the windows as well, but maybe I shouldn't have bothered.
9/10 times someone says something really dumb here you go to their blog and the only interests they have is like homestuck and anime. You are parents who only watch M.A.S.H. reruns
You need to get into like collecting or something. Meet some people.
You need a word of the day calendar
people will call rap overstimulating and then listen to hyper pop
i cant talk to people who hate on entire genres about music they have a sinister aura that i do not want to interact with
Even if it's Country?
yes hot take the hatred of country music as a whole will often come down to classism i love country music i love bluegrass i love folk and writing off a whole genre or type of music is crazyyyyyyy

I been somewhat following the "Argentinians being Extremely Racist during the World Cup" saga, and like... BONKERS lmao. How do you manage to purge an African population of 30% without some true hate π
It does explain that mindset that I have always found odd about Latin American racism, which is that (valid!) resentment of the US for being part of the Global North and Imperial Core, while simultaneously sharing so many of its racist, white supremacist beliefs. It's like... So you don't hate the racism portion? That's not the problem to you? π
And obviously, again, not all Argentinians. But systemically... That is a Problem.
