I still have such mixed feelings a in the egg but I finally decided to just do a new play through of DA:I, and my Lavellan is romancing him. And it’s just… wow. I never really explored his romance (as a friend definitely) but it just makes his story you learn about so much… sadder?

He was always so… gentle with her. He was kind and quiet. And he was terrified of being with her because of the relationships he’s only known were… not great. He doesn’t want to lose her like he lost everyone else because she is different. She’s special.

I’ll never have shipped him with Mythal- that is such an icky thing and after meeting her treatments and seeing her nature as a god in DA:V, he really was in such an abusive relationship there. Nothing about it was respectful of him, and she convinced him to leave being a spirit because she needed his power and abilities.

And what was one of the first things ever that Lavellan says to him? “You’re here to help, Solas. I won’t let them use that against you.” And his momentary look of shock because like- this is the first person he has probably met in his entire life that doesn’t want to use him in some way. That sees him as a person.

And for a moment, doesn’t know what to do about that.

I’m thinking about this now especially because the song “Dream” by Imagine Dragons is literally Solas. Like- the chorus alone:

obsessed with how ryoko kui sometimes draws falin wearing these shirts with the images of her skeleton chilling in the dragon's stomach. it's so fucking real. if i'd been eaten by a dragon i would 100% wear shirts like this too
