WRONG. Actual male puberty isn’t just getting stat doses of testosterone injected into you. That’s not what’s happening in a male body. Puberty is driven by pulsatile GnRH which HRT cannot, and does not replicate, and the early pubertal stage of adrenarche isn’t replicated by testosterone therapy at all.

Be aware of your privilege and make sure to not use it against marginalised people…unless you’re a man who wants to identify as a woman or a heterosexual who wants to identify as homosexual. Then it’s totally fine to use your privilege to barge into the spaces of those less privileged than you, and to talk over them.

Oppression impacts the human psyche deeply, and sadly it makes many oppressed people hate the traits they’re oppressed for…but don’t you dare suggest we analyse why a woman might want to identify out of womanhood, or why a homosexual might want to identify as a straight trans person, or why a woman might hate her female features so much that she wants them surgically removed or medically altered. These are valid identities that can’t possibly be related to the desire to escape oppression.

How many Arab states have “Arab Republic” in their formal names? They massacre, oppress, forcibly assimilate non-Arab indigenous minorities like the Kurds, the Assyrians, the Copts. Why should they get to exist if Israel can’t? Israel does nothing comparable. Palestine’s constitution explicitly defines the country as Arab, which has been Fatah’s position since it adopted its founding charter in 1964. That same Palestinian constitution guarantees safety and citizenship to Muslims and Christians only; their country, whatever its borders, will be Judenrein.

Israel is a nation-state. It represents the self-determination of its majority ethnic population. This is an international norm, whether explicit or implicit, from Japan, the Koreas, and China (Han), through Central Asia and the Middle East (Afghan is a synonym for Pashtun) to Europe. The only continents that are the exception are sub-Saharan Africa, due to the influence of imperialism, and the Americas, which contain by definition the quintessential settler-colonial states.

So why is Israel the only country whose basic existence El-Sayed puts into question? Israel, with non-Jewish cabinet ministers, supreme court judges, senior military officers, disproportionately large numbers of doctors, etc. is your classic liberal nation-state. It is certainly far better to be an Arab in Israel than Roma anywhere in Europe, much less a minority of any kind in most of the rest of the world, namely the Arab world of El-Sayed’s parents.

I think we all know the answer. The very concept of Jewish self-determination, of Jewish empowerment and autonomy, of access and influence, strikes him as unnatural. It’s a basic presumption in much of the world, especially the Muslim world. Jews are expected to be a subject people, not an independent one; if that subordinate status is removed, then something fundamentally wrong is happening in the order of things. I doubt it’s even something El-Sayed can articulate; it’s more an unexamined prejudice that he frames as justice. Why else would he not speak the same way of Egypt or Sweden or Nepal, with whose existence he has no problem?

I support their right to live on their traditional lands and for the state not to open new mines on them...?

Like, Sweden decided to move an entire city to Sámi traditional reindeer herding areas after SBAB mined underneath the city to the degree that the entire city was going to collapse into the mine. (The city of Kiruna was already on Sámi lands to begin with). That's how awful Sweden is towards the Sámi people.

The Sámi are supposed to have constitutional minority rights as an indigenous people, but the Swedish state consistently shits on those rights without consequence, and no one on the Swedish left cares even a little bit.

And when SBAB (the state mining company) recently found rare earth minerals in the area and wanted to open up a new mine, they announed their plans to open a new mine on lands that would make reindeer herding impossible for this one sameby, Gabna sameby - and they didn't even tell them in advance.

The Sámi people's right to practice reindeer herding and husbandry on their traditional land is legally protected - and that doesn't seem to matter in the slightest.

SBAB has had beef with Gabna village specifically for over a 100 years, and now they're finally in a position to make traditional living for them impossible - and no one in Sweden gives a single fuck.

Sweden gets penalised in the European Court of Human Rights for how we treat the Sámi so often it's like how often Israel gets penalised by the UN - the only difference is that in the case of the Sámi it's actually deserved.
