I'm firmly convinced that if Star Trek: Janeway ever happened it would be the last nail in the coffin of JC. However, I still think there's so much about Janeway that would be amazing to see. I'd love a show that would give full agency and voice to older women, I'm talking 70+.
And Janeway is such a great role model because she was fully in acceptance and in love with her feminine side (even though she insisted on that whole no love and martyrdom theme but whatever). She was never trying to me more masculine. She embraced her femininity and led with it, not despite of it. And there is so much Kathryn Janeway still has to offer that I desperately want to see it.
What I'm imagining is something like what The Expanse did with Avasarala. Give me Janeway as a heavyweight galactic diplomat in a room full of admirals and ambassadors.
I want her to tell some raging, male politician "oh I'm sorry, it was not my intention to offend your tender sensibilities, Jeffrie," deliberately forgoing whatever title he holds
Hollywood is terrified of women over 60. Over 70 is basically uncharted territory unless you're Judi Dench or whatever. I want Star Trek, a franchise literally built on the premise that the future is better, to have the guts to put a woman in her seventies at the center of a political thriller and let her be the most formidable person in every single scene.
Don't give me pew pew pew starship exploding pew pew pew the world is ending pew pew pew borg borg pew pew pew
Give me Admirals Janeway with grey hair and and absolutely zero patience for bullshit diplomacy.
And if we're feeling particularly generous, let's not kill off Chakotay and explore a mature love, reclaiming second and third chances at personal happiness. Gimme old people in love.
Voyager Crew's Bookshelves
Janeway
Classical literature, poetry, and every book Chakotay has ever owned, all βtemporarily borrowedβ
A few smutty romance novels she swears are βanthropological studiesβ
A stack of technical manuals she absolutely does not need
1001 Pubs to Visit Before You Die, bookmarked at every Irish one
A half-finished Klingon cookbook she keeps meaning to return to BβElanna
A tiny notebook titled Coffee: A Love Story (self-authored)
Chakotay
A bunch of empty shelves
A couple of newly replicated self-help books
Tuvok
Vulcan poetry (the kind that makes humans cry from boredom)
Dealing With Humans: A Survival Guide - Expanded and Revised Vulcan Language Edition, which he has personally annotated with the intent of contacting the publisher one day with his recommendations
When Nasal Inhibitors Fail: A Tactical Response Manual
Vulcan recipe books, with recipes bookmarked for Neelix's interest in the hopes they'll be "zesty" enough to avoid alteration
War and Peace, because Janeway gave him it, insisting he βbroaden his horizonsβ
He has read it. He did not enjoy it. It was originally Chakotayβs.
BβElanna
Technical manuals, half of them annotated with βTom, stop touching thisβ
Several smutty romance novels, and some steamy classical literature, loaned to her by Janeway, who cannot remember where she got them from...
A secret stash of poetry she will deny exists
Tom Paris
Technical Manuals for Dummies, all with sarcastic notes from BβElanna
The Pop-Up Kamasutra (he claims itβs βfor educational purposesβ)
The Guinness Book of Galactic Records
A collection of pulp sci-fi novels he pretends are ironic
A holo-novel script titled Captain Proton and the Curse of the Spider Queen
Harry Kim
Sheet music. So much sheet music. Enough to build a small fort.
A self-help book Janeway gave him, filled with handwritten notes that look suspiciously like Chakotayβs attempts at encouragement
A book titled How to Advance your Starfleet Career that he keeps βfor motivationβ
A copy he was given by Megan Delaney as a gift
A third copy Tom got him as a joke
The Doctor
Photons Be Free
One poetry collection gifted by Janeway
Chakotay swears itβs his
A medical textbook he wrote himself, titled Iβm Surrounded by Organics
A holo-novel manuscript called The Doctorβs Odyssey, which he insists is βnot autobiographicalβ
A single romance novel he claims is βresearchβ
Neelix
A few Vulcan books because he thinks the script is pretty
Every cookbook in the database, including ones he definitely shouldnβt be using
Books on herbology and home remedies, half of which contradict each other
A Talaxian childrenβs picture book called The Happy Leola Root
Kes
Horticultural books, many with pressed flowers inside
Fantasy novels and fairytales she reads to calm her mind
Anthropology books Janeway thought sheβd like, but she's certain they belonged to Chakotay once upon a time
A meditation guide she borrowed from Tuvok and actually returned
Seven of Nine
She does not require books
She has perfectly memorised the entire database
BβElanna gave her How to Win Friends and Influence People
She read it, annotated it, and returned it with a 47-page appendix explaining why it is βineffectualβ
She keeps one physical item: a tiny engineering manual Harry gave her, because he looked so hopeful
Ayala
Several of Chakotay's books he's spotted while in various peoples' quarters
He's feigned interest in them and plans to return them to Chakotay
Once he's read them himself, but he's a slow reader
Janeway has already borrowed one back from him
what the inside of my head looks like at the moment

good news everyone
I'm tired of hearing about Young Kirk and Young Spock. I want a (good) show about young shithead Science Lieutenant Janeway falling in BFF love with Tuvok while on adventures together and there's ZERO ROMANCE. I MEAN IT. NO ENTERPRISE LOVE BOAT ALLOWED.
I'm talking ZERO love interests for Janeway as far as the eye can see. People of all genders keep flinging themselves at her but she refuses to let herself do anything more than have a pathetic wank because of her angst about Tau Ceti Prime. She channels everything into raw chaos bisexual energy with Tuvok just enabling her at all times.
T'Pel asking with pure Vulcan sarcasm if they had fun and in the middle of Tuvok replying that Vulcans only do their duty not have Fun, Janeway (still slightly hungover and wearing sunglasses) slings an arm around his shoulders and says, "SO MUCH fun. You should've been there, T'Pel. You should've seen the way your man risked it all to save my sorry ass from a sentient liquid people. We almost died again."
T'Pel: "Again?"
Tuvok: "....we meditated after."
Janeway: "AND we meditated after!"
like this.
there's a 2-part season finale with time travel hijinks and fanservice cameos by both Kate Mulgrew and Tim Russ alongside their younger counterparts, showing that even 40+ years in the future these two are still BFFs and getting into Some Bullshit together
I wonder how Nael, age 6 is doing. Is he still writing poetry? I hope so.
So have the rest of all yall j/c fans seen this??ππ
That is actually part of an Entertainment Tonight special on Voyager that was done in the first season. Itβs on YouTube in its entirety.
You can see Martha Hackett on the medbed. This is BTS of State of Flux.
Soβ¦ yes. Kate And RB right out of the gate were like this. Both very seriously had the flaming hots for each other. Speculation about a behind the scenes fling is pretty where thereβs smokeβ¦. (Yes, they likely did)
i can't leave out the tags:
#Kate and RB and their too hot for each other situationship#yeah they likely went there#did they just do this kind of thing?#yes they did#rb famously said circa futures end that they were closer than anyone knows#speculation is they were dating around 3-4th season just prior to her marrying Tim#to this day both still talk about how sexy the other one is
something something kim and janeway both being willing to sacrifice not only themselves but their entire timelines to bring voyager back, even though they got home. and not only making that final sacrifice but dedicating years of their lives to fixing their mistakes because they got home and it wasn't enough, and there's no guarantee for either of them that they'll be successful and that they won't just make everything worse. but it's worth it. they are too haunted by the blame they've taken upon themselves for what happened to carry on living in their present so they sacrifice themselves for the uncertain past

Tom is so much sweeter than Chakotay...
I know that SHE is the one holding Tom, but... but... I am glad she had children with Paris.
He loves her in a non possesive way and that is marvelous.
There are a lot of takes on KJ/TP and this is maybe the one I like least. And FYI: I wrote J/P in a positive light in Long Hot Heavy Summer
voy textposts part 2 ft. more people this time
the last one applies to both
star trek beta that i WISH had made it into the show: janeway being a cardassian prisoner of war. a decent proportion of her crew is maquis! her first officer and chief of engineering are maquis! she is someone who has an intimate understanding of how cruel the cardassians can be, and you can't tell me that after that happened to her, she didn't follow cardassian politics closely. what's more, it's the reason she even switched to the command track in the first place. that incident was massively formative for her, and i just wish we could have seen more of how that clearly would have impacted her relationship with at least chakotay and b'elanna if not the rest of the maquis crewmembers.
the degree to which i imagine KJ's relationship with tom was influenced by her service under (under?) admiral paris; this, to say nothing of the secondary trauma of listening to her first captain being violently tortured and being so, so sure that he was doing everything in his power to protect her.
why does KJ shoulder so much? why is she ready to sacrifice herself? bc that's what a starfleet captain does for her crew.
Star Trek episode idea: thereβs only one bottle of antidepressants left in the galaxy and Kirk, Picard, Janeway, and Sisko have to fight to the death to get it
i truly believe in order to make peak star trek again you simply have to get a cast of actors who have only done theatre and nothing else. you can have one token TV Guy if you wish. but so help me god i need those aliens doing shakespeare up there
