Result from the Tiaojishan Formation stream, or rather Yanliao biota stream. This incredible assemblage was on my mind from the very start of doing these pieces, not just because it has tons of fascinating critters but because a big portion of the vertebrates here appear...
to have been at least partially arboreal. Tons of small pterosaurs, feathered dinosaurs, mammals and even a few lizard show adaptations for living in the canopy. With weirdos like Yi or at least two lineages of gliding mammals. Few formations offer a glimpse into this world...
that is usually omitted from the fossil record. The outcrops of the Tiaojishan Formation and the rest of the Yanliao biota are known from Northern China, especially Liaoning but also Hebei and Inner Mongolia. These incredibly well preserved fossils were preserved in lakes in...
which fine volcanic ash quickly covered up carcasses. The surrounding forests have been assumed to be subtropical for a while but a new publication actually even compares them with tropical moist montane forests. The flora was dominated not by conifers but Bennettitales which...
made up more than 30% of the flora. These plants, that were probably close to angiosperms, had flower like organs and give this forest a little more color. Besides that we have ginkgos, ferns and other gymnosperms. But the true diversity lies with the inverts...
Over 700 species have been described so far (here only a selection), often with color preservation articulated bodies. We also have bizarre leaf mimics, giant fleas and the largest mesozoic spider, Mongolarachne. When it comes to the vertebrates an interesting aspect is the very small fish...
assemblage, with two lampreys and one or two ray-finned fishes. Instead a large diversity of salamanders filled many aquatic niches and a docodont with beaver tail joined them too. On land, small dinosaurs and mammals can be found. So far missing are any really large animals probably due to a taphonomic bias for small animals to be preserved more easily. The vertebrate size chart is a collaboration between me and Discord member Avery, who also did the inverts. Plants where assembled by JW.

A lemon pig has been crafted for the New Year, stay tuned for updates of its development :)
Update 1 month on. He's not doing ok
Oh.
Sorry guys I forgot to check in on lemon pig for a couple weeks
So is it normal for rotting lemons to... grow???
it is! rotting lemons can expand upon themselves in the right circumstances.
this is commonplace and natural, you've nothing to fear :)
Oh phew!
And here I was starting to get worried. Silly me :)
So uuh when are the growths supposed to stop :/
Starting to get worried. Looks like it might burst...

Big post in the making!
As the last post Involving ALL the formation stream pieces got too long to be comfortable for scrolling I have decided to start a new one this year! For new people a little recap:
The Formation streams are an ongoing series of live streams on my Twitch/YouTube channels where I draw every week one of these menageries portraying the flora and fauna of locality of geologic formation. The Discord community helps along and before you ask: no there are no prints of this and yes I would like to tun this into a book one day but no idea when and how.
Here a link post I kept expanding unto end of 2025 HERE
First piece of the year was the Elliot Formation from early Jurassic South Africa!
Adding the Agate Fossil Beds from the Miocene of Nebraska. A paradise for many bizarre ungulates.
Adding the Djadochta Formation from the late Cretaceous of Mongolia. Home of many iconic dinosaurs and even more small fantastic critters.
Adding the Joggins Formation from the Carboniferous of Canada. A place where nature dumped random lizard corpses in hollow logs.
Adding the MOTH locality from the early Devonian of Canada, a place filled with bizarre early fish, with jaws and without.
Adding the Naracoorte Caves from the Pleistocene of South Australia. A wonderland for large and small marsupials before the dawn of man.
Adding the Ein Yabrud quarry from Cretaceous of Palestine, an assemblage of often time beautifully preserved fish, marine reptiles and invertebrates.
Adding Koobi Fora from the early Pleistocene of Kenya. Come for the hominis, stay for the overwhelming diversity of megafauna!
Adding the Wadi al Hitan, the valley of the whales. A classic Eocene locality of Walking With Beasts fame. The hunting grounds of Basilosaurus.
Adding the Sulphur Mountain Formation, a Triassic refuge for the last Eugeneodonts, which overlapped here with thalattosaurs, very early ichthyosaurs and tons of fish!
Adding the Wellington Formation from the Permian of Kansas, home of the largest insect of all time!
Adding the middle Pleistocene of Sicily, a bizarre world of tiny elephants, large rodents and tortoises and so many birds!
Adding the Escuminac Formation from the Devonian of Canada. A fish nursery frozen in time.
Adding the Zechstein sea, a warm Permian sea from Central Europe, filled with tons of classic critters from the early days of paleontology
Adding the Pisco Formation from Miocene Peru! An absolute baller to paint once you simply ignore the Megalodon in the room.
Adding the Walcott quarry of the Burgess Shale deposit. The origin of the theory of the Cambrian Explosion!
Adding the locality of Milia 5, a lost paradise of mammalian megafauna from the Pliocene of Greece. Home of some of the biggest tuskers of all time.
Adding the lagerstätte of Cabrières from the Ordovician of southern France. A shallow marine world of little guys, thriving under polar lights.
Adding the Florissant Formation from the late Eocene of Colorado. Cool plants and mammals? Yes, but you stay for the bugs.
Adding the Fiddlers Green Formation from the Silurian of New York and southern Canada, the mother load of eurypterids!
Adding the Tiaojishan Formation from the Middle Jurassic if China. A moist paradise for small arboreal critters.
funniest thing to ever happen was when my boyfriend put on the first episode of columbo (which i'd never seen) but he wouldn't tell me what show it was he would only say "you'll get it when he shows up." but a fun fact about the first episode of columbo is that he doesn't show up for 32 minutes and when he does, he silently walks into the room with a cigar and does a little pose and goes "hi i'm columbo."
Dont lock me up for this one

We regret to inform you that the sunshine and friendship app is actually a children killing app.
I have been telling people for years that the company behind Pokemon Go had no-shit, for-realsies ties to the CIA and people never really took it that seriously. Anyway.
unfortunately very true. Doing Better does not always mean never being upset or never being triggered or never having trouble. often Doing Better means experiencing those things and being able to keep going/cope healthily/move on. if you’re in a bubble with no sensation, if you’re numbing yourself out, that’s not what recovering really is. it won’t help you have a happier life it’ll just make your world smaller and smaller until you can’t fit anywhere anymore. gotta learn to make peace with the hard stuff too, that’s the only way to keep going
I think we are focusing on the wrong thing when talking about mainstream romantasy adult books, instead of shaming straight cis women for reading kinky books, we should tralk about how most of the newer books aimed at that demographic are just conservative propoganda, rebranding patriarchy as a kink.
There's nothing inherently wrong about liking the types of kinks that are present, control, power imbalance, dark themes, but when you really look at the top performing novels (which they are mass prodicing at questionable speeds) it's hard to ignore the ever present morally grey man, who's posessive over the heroine who starts off as otherworldly different from the 'regular woman' aka damsel in distress), is cruel to everyone except her, and the fantasy world revolves around the control of women, especially when it comes to forced pregnancy.
I'm seeing a lot of responses to this saying "this is why I read queer stories" but you're missing the point! You can relate to queer media because you're queer, cis straight women should also have material that aren't turning their opression into kinks in almost every. single. book. If they want to choose to read those stories, that's absolutely fine, again nothing wrong with exploring those dynamics, but the concerning part is how fast they're being made with the rise of booktok, and the looming threat to women's autonomy.
Remember when all mlm stories were borderine assault stories in the early 90s-2000s? and how long it took for other queer stories to be made? we all used our voices to make a change, it didn't magically stop we fought for it to not be the only type of story.
And the solution to this, for people who are wondering, isn't to try to suppress romantasy books because they're not "good for women." That's an old, old game and never goes anywhere good. The solution is not less kink and less porn. The solution is more kink and more porn.
Because when you think about it, the problem isn't that you can go to your chosen bookseller and find a story where Sparklia Special gets semi-forced to have babies for Broody McDarkenfay (it's okay, she's into it). The problem is that it is unnecessarily difficult to look a little further down the shelf and find a vampire princess domming the hell out of the hunter who knows he shouldn't love her. Reducing people's choices always serves the reactionary agenda one way or another. Expanding choices. That's where it's at.
(If this sounds like I am making a pitch that we should write porn to defeat fascism, that's…not entirely a mischaracterization. I mean, of course it won't defeat fascism, but I do feel that while we work to defeat fascism, we should at least have diverse and satisfying porn.)

med people are so annoying "This family's 8 year old child who was about to go through a major surgery and kept crying that she was hungry so they pitied her and gave her food, she then had a heart attack in the surgery. They're so stupid 😒" girl they didn't know that could happen or why it happens. it takes so little time to explain to them that will happen instead of telling them "no food" with no explanation 10 times
"Before surgery, your body’s reflexes that protect your airway are relaxed by anesthesia. If there’s food or liquid in your stomach, it will near certainly come back up and go into your lungs, which can cause choking, a severe lung / heart infection or even a heart attack. That’s called aspiration, and it is life-threatening. It's hard, but it's only a single day to prevent near certain death. Not eating or drinking beforehand massively lowers the risk and helps prevent these life threatening situations under anesthesia." <- TIP: patients have brains which allows them to receive information just like you
I have four kids. I’ve had one or another of them need some kind of surgical procedure that requires anesthesia four or five times over the past 15 years.
This Tumblr post is the first time someone has explained to me *why* I couldn’t feed them before those instances.
I’m not stupid. I understood that just fine. Hell, my kids would have understood that just fine. But no one bothered to tell us.
i did know this before having kids (i have six). we have a kid that's needed multiple procedures requiring anesthesia. and every single time, i am asked multiple times if i'm sure he was not given any food or water after a certain point.
every single time i have had to say, "i understand that if he had food or water, he could aspirate it into his lungs under anesthesia. i am not lying to you." THEN someone would make a little note and i would stop being repeatedly asked.
not a single time was that risk explained to me. the only reason it came up was because i already knew. i still don't understand why it isn't standard pre-op counseling or pre-op check information, when me as a parent acknowledging the actual risk also put THE MEDICAL STAFF at ease because i conveyed that i had informed understanding as reason to not lie about giving my kid food.
"maybe some people will get nervous and refuse surgery" okay so they need more counseling about risks and anxiety, not less information in a way that actually does endanger their child or themselves!

personally i think miucrosoft should be sued for what they're doing to the game industry
The future of Senua, which Xbox just announced, is unclear.
Game sold badly? Fired
Game sold well? Fired
Game just came out? Fired
Game not out yet? Fired
Game literally just announced? Fired
Xbox is an active hindrance to the games industry and i think we'd genuinely be better without them and their shitty console no one buys
