I know the choice to change Stratt from Dutch to German in the film was largely a result of casting Sandra Hüller (who was perfect in the role, so like, I get it) but honestly the more I roll it around in my head the more the politics of it compel me.
Thinking about Stratt--who has such a unique blend of optimism and cynicism, willing to place Earth's hopes in an interstellar mission but approaching making it happen in such a ruthlessly pragmatic way--growing up as a kid in East Germany and living through die Wende and the collapse of the Eastern Bloc is just really politically fascinating. Partly because Stratt herself is so politically fascinating, but there's also something else there, something that speaks to growing up watching protests and upheaval on one side of the Iron Curtain, only to end up working for the extremely international European Space Agency as an adult (and then transition into leading the even more international Petrova Taskforce). In that context, movie!Stratt has seen both human conflict and human cooperation in spades, and I could see it hugely informing her perspective on the Hail Mary mission.
In any case. I'm still chewing on the implications of all this, but like I said, it does really compel me.

I'm just going to say it - body hair (and beauty standards in general) is truly one of the final frontiers of women's issues in the West. Too many women just love their gilded cage too much. It shocks me how virulently women will defend it. I barely open my mouth and the "well I like how it feels. it just makes me feel cleaner. sensory issues. I do it for me. feminism is about choosing (to conform)." brigade come rushing in by the dozens.
Well I don't like how it feels. I don't feel cleaner without body hair. I don't prefer not having body hair. But who will advocate for women like me, but me? For women who do like hair removal, they are advocated for every time they step out of the house and see 99% of the female population also conforming to that standard, or when they watch a movie and see all the shaved actresses, or view an advertisment, or open a magazine, or watch a music video, or scroll through social media, or walk down the streets without receiving insults and glares for having a completely normal bodily feature.
You genuinely can't even point out that hairlessness is a man-made standard without women losing their shit and acting like they are totally immune to propaganda they've been exposed to from birth. I'm so tired.

In my humble opinion, I don't think Loki is that self-actualized out of nowhere and I think it'd make him very boring if he was. Like yes, he is less prone to physical violence than Thor, but he has millennia of repressed emotions and finding out he's a Jotun foundling to unpack. He would not be chilling and would be difficult to deal with too. I do think Thor would cause the war with Jotunheim to worsen and doing a poor job. I can see him being a sort of warrior king that abandons his post to fight with his army, and just treats his kingdom as a way to fund his armies into endless war.
