February Vacation Ski Edit - https://flipagram.com/f/mP0vGuUiYl
Now I know it's a bit late, but here is my post about my February trip to Park City Utah. Just recently Park City combined with a neighboring mountain called Canyons Resort making it the largest ski mountain in America. As soon as I found out I knew this was the place I wanted to visit for February vacation. About four years ago when i was ten years old my family and I visited canyons resort which I enjoyed very much. There were still some hike to areas I didn't get to ski because I ran out of time. So on this trip there was new added terrain for me to explore, fun runs to ski again and unfinished business for me to complete. Unfortunately wind and rain shut down lifts for a day and a half, but on the nice days I did what I wanted to. On the first day it was icy on the slides and chutes on the left facing side of the mountain, so I skied the Condor Woods gates. These feature steep trees and and packed / soft snow, the first access gate leads to an evergreen forest with slightly wide trees, the second and third gate leads to dense aspen glades. All of this ultimately leads into a long flat gully with fallen trees across the top here and there which will keep you on your toes. Before lunch I hiked to the top of Murdock Peak, this is something I've wanted to ski since I saw it four years ago. It features a steep physically demanding hike up the face of mountain above the top of the lift. I was rewarded for my efforts with fresh powder at the top. After lunch the left side of the mountain which had been melting all day was turned to slush making it one of the best spots on the mountain that afternoon. That left side seems to be made up of mud slides covered in snow which carved paths through aspen woods. I skied Sticks & Stones which features a narrow chute and a skiable spine into a wide slide. It's short compared to the other 6 slides but it's one of the best. My dad and I skied Yard Sale which features a wide slide into a with a gully and After Shock which is one long slide which looks almost like a cut path and features moguls. I skied A Chute which is a shrub filled fun which hides a gully like slide with a cornice line, my dad and I finished the day with West Boundary which had very little snow. Day 2 was rather disappointing, other than skiing a double black glade called Molly's not much exciting happened. The ridge hike to Jupiter Peak on the Park City side closed because of wind. I skied with my mom, sister and a few friends for a bit until the rest of the lifts closed early for wind. On day 3 my dad and I attempted to escape the whether by going to Alta, we did a few runs in the Black Jack woods until all lifts lost power due to weather, we went back to canyons and stayed inside for the rest of the day. Day 4 was by far the best, the top of the mountain got 6 inches of fresh powder. I skied Molly's a few times including one extremely steep section. When the ridge hike opened I was one of the first people at the top and I got second track on the main chute of the East Face. East face is by far the Hardest run on the mountain, it features steep rock chutes and cliffs. This was the best run of the trip, I was able to glide Down the chute and straight line into the powder filled bowl below. In the afternoon we went back to the Canyons side, we ate lunch and I went and skied skied A Chute again with my dad and a friend, afterwards I skied a steep slide called Funnel Cloud, a steep run called Lone Pine which gets its name from the single pine tree in the middle and I also skied Sticks & Stones one last time. I skied until the lifts closed and I brought my stuff back to the room. First Trip Of The Season During Christmas vacation I went to Alta/Snowbird. Because of amazing snow conditions most of the mountain was open so I was able to ski all the classics and then some. Here are some highlights: Berry Berry Steep: it's exactly what it sounds like, very very steep but with a clever name. To access this line you must take the Cirque Traverse (PHOTO#1) about half way down and enter some tight trees which will open up to a long steep gully down the face of the mountain. (PHOTO #2) The constant difficulty makes this one of snowbirds hardest runs and one of my favorites. Rasta Chutes: these are small and narrow chutes located below pipeline bowl. These are the perfect place to practice chute straight-lining (skiing without turning) (PHOTO #3) High Baldy: this is by far my all time favorite area at snowbird. There are so many lines I've only done half. If you follow my account you may have seen my guide to baldy post but if you haven't here is a little info. If your starting on the snowbird side, the journey begins with the high baldy boot pack and the High Baldy Traverse (PHOTO #4 and #5) this ends at the Gun Towers but you can continue down the ridge all the way to comma chute, blackjack bowl / chute and westward ho. On this trip I skied a glade near the top of the traverse called Venus line and I skied the keyhole (last area before gun towers) (Photo #6) which features tree skiing and a narrow gully. Gunsight: on the high traverse at Alta ski area there is a noticeably large cliff band. In this cliff band there are two notches, if they are open one has a boot pack with a rope and the other has a sidestep. Take the sidestep up the notch and ski down the chute on the other side (PHOTO #7) this was a lot of fun to ski especially because I never new it existed so it gave me something new to experience. That concludes this blog, stay tuned for more

You really feel like every second lasts longer when your waiting for ski season. November is always a tough month for me because all I can do is wait for skiing. The bottom left photo is of cliff area at snowbird called north baldy, I point this out because my first trip of the season will be to Alta/Snowbird. After that I'm going to ski at loon for a weekend or two then I fly to big sky, the rest of my ski trips still have to be booked. I Was at the ski expo on Sunday talking to the resort representatives and it sounds like it's going to be a good year east and west. You can hear about my up coming adventures on this blog

Ski Portillo Chile In August I went to ski Portillo chile in search of summer snow. I attend a ski training camp for the week and had many adventures. The first few days were easy going, we did some training on the only groomed top to bottom run, most involved turning and were to put pressure on your foot. The action started on our day off when me and some other people in the camp did the heliski trip that you can sign up for at the resort. This may have been one of my favorite life experiences! The powder was endless and the runs had to be broken into 3 parts, each most likely took 10 minutes and we were moving fast, we skied 4 runs through these amazing mountains one of which was a large chute. The next day it snowed in the morning and there was a little more snow so our group went and skied chutes of the roca traverse rather than training which we could do the next morning. We skied one of the lines on my list called S Chute named for its shape. This was wide but steep with hardpack snow. On the last day me and a few others took the afternoon off to ski gargantita 1 and lake run. Gargantita 1 was a very narrow chute off the top of the plateau lift that I had looked at all week. I'm glad I got to ski it. The lake run was less hard but more interesting, the run now had a 10 foot hole in the middle that was roped off, someone fell in and had to be rescued about a week before we were there, what was more interesting was the traverse out which was on a trail blasted out off the rock with only a fence separating you from a 50 foot cliff into the lake. The views where incredible, this is a run I will never forget. Somtimes its hard for a skier to keep the action going in the summer. practicing flips at the beach has always been a been one of my favorite summer activitys. You just cant match the feeling you get when your upside down in mid air - http://flipagram.com/f/bQhGa59Aib

For this #flashbackfriday we are Looking back on some of my favorite lines I did in winter made with Flipagram
- http://flipagram.com/f/Z2u0sQmgQM
What does a skier do in the summer ?
When in the off season of your favorite sport it’s hard to find things that are as fun. I have had this problem before. How ever there are ways to solve it. For most skiers mountains feel like home, so why not stick around, there are many things to do in the mountains, I like to go on extreme hikes. I find a sketchy and demanding hike gives me the same adrenalin rush as skiing a chute, on July forth I did I hike in Stowe that required climbing steep rocks, traversing on narrow trails above 300 foot cliffs and climbing ladders from traverse to traverse. The year before I found some more thrills by hiking to a swimming hole and jumping off a 30 foot waterfall, I also went zip lining across the forest tree tops. of course these are things I do and enjoy but there are more options if that isn’t your style, there is mountain biking, woods hikes, seeing how your favorite trails look I’m summer and more.

There are also fun things to do off mountain, most people want to go to a beach but if your like me your looking for something extreme or at least something more athletic, just recently I went to a challenge course the was quite difficult but still fun, I was able to do all the obstacles that I came across including one with a hammock in the middle of the cable that you have to climb over. Places like these are available for anyone who is up for the challenge. Sometimes if it’s not the mountains, it’s the rivers, kayaks are great for for getting exercise while having fun on the river, if this is not enough there is a step up option. Whitewater rafting is action packed and is a great way to get the adrenalin going, especially if your out west, a few years ago I went whitewater rafting on the snake river, not only was it fun but I got the chance so many animals including a bald eagle. Years before that I went in Canada which was even more intense. Soon I’m going again in New England, but don’t get me wrong beaches can be fun two.

If your not skiing, your thinking about it, I’m always researching new resorts and crazy lines to ski at new and old resorts, before summer even starts I’m already working on my bucket list, at the top of it right now is the little couloir at my favorite resort, Big Sky,
Photo #5: little couloir search on Google
If your lucky you can still ski, if you live in North America, most of you have no snow for the summer, (unless your in very northern Canada). Lucky for you, South America is experiencing winter and Argentina and Chile have ski resorts, this year I am going to ski Portillo Chile to attend a “steeps camp” that will be the subject of my next blog
