pynch is awesome because adam thinks of ronan as being a bad influence that corrupts his innocent straightlaced nature by getting him to act like a reckless teenage boy instead of being the model scholarship student. its not that there isnt any truth to it. ronan is practically defined by reckless behavior. but the stuff ronan talks adam into doing is like. getting into a shopping cart and rolling across the grocery store parking lot. or dragging each other behind the back of a car on a skateboard. and adam is like ronans dangerous hes a savage hes sharp like a knife hes a dark enigma i dont know why i go along with his antics (he does)....but when its adam convincing ronan to do something its "lets fabricate evidence of our latin teacher abusing and murdering little kids and stand outside in his yard and throw a bag of chopped up body parts at him to run him out of town" girl HUH? and ronan is like yeah i basically view adam as an object of worship. and youre like wait hold on you think of him like hes a saint? and ronans like no. hes going to hellll 😁🩷

i do sort of love that when you first learn about ronan in TRB, you feel bad for him. you might find him sus, but his dad died and he found the body, that's horrific, surely that's the worst thing to happen to him/that family. when adam and blue see the barns for the first time its described as this idyllic utopia, it's magical, it's warm, it's beautiful - you grew up here? - surely the lynch fam was equally as idyllic. then as the series progresses (and even into the dreamer trilogy) you learn how completely fucked the whole family history and situation really was. slowly but surely every preconceived notion you had about niall or aurora or declan or ronan or matthew is uncovered, dragged into the light. the "perfect" family ronan was desperate to get back was not perfect at all. (also declan was right the whole time)

people looovee reducing adam and gansey’s relationship to just the repugnant argument while completely failing to mention come on adam please we’ll make it work. you’d come with. you could come stay at monmouth for the night. he’s a genius. what do you think i’ll see if he dies? he didn’t know whether he wanted to save gansey or be gansey. some days gansey wished he could be him because adam was so very real and true in a way gansey couldn’t ever seem to be. adam felt like he had helped a bird hatch from an egg. who has he had to love him? ever? only gansey ever seemed to catch him at it. searching for the only pair of eyes in the room that mattered — where was gansey? i do miss the romans gansey said just to see adam smirk which he did. thank god we’re not fighting thank god we’re not fighting thank god we’re not fighting. treason adam said because he knew it would please gansey and he saw that it did. if adam was stupid about his pride gansey was stupid about adam. hey, tiger. i should call gansey. adam’s body shook in silent convulsions of laughter. adam looked more like himself than he had in ages and gansey silently vowed to do whatever it took to keep him that way. i’m glad we’re not fighting it was stupid for it to go on so long. gansey wasn’t like anyone else and suddenly adam wasn’t sure if he wanted him to be. you were smart to figure it out. you marvelous creature. his fallible king. gansey, his best friend, his stupid and kind and marvelous best friend.

nothing hits me in the face harder during a raven cycle/dreamer trilogy reread than maggie saying declan's age. i'll be picturing this polished, mature 30-something businessman, only to be brutally reminded that he's actually fucking boss baby. like what do you mean that guy with a stomach ulcer so big it could have its own social security number isn't old enough to legally rent a car???
