you wanna see some badass shit from the early 20th century?? The LumiΓ¨re brothers created the first full color photographβ¦ in fucking 1903! So these dudes dyed potatoes (in red, blue, and green), mashed them down into just pure fuckinβ starch, and used these dyed potato starches as filters to block out/let in certain wavelengths of light. They coated one side of a glass plate with the starches and sensitized the other side with a mixture of gelatin and light sensitive materials (silver nitrate) and loaded these plates in their cameras.. This is a really simple explanation of the process and I may have missed some things A few of my favorite autochrome photos:
that last one is literally a LOOK
yes!
but lets not forget sergei prokudin-gorskiy, who developed a similar process in 1902, published in 1903 and then toured russia to take hundreds of color photographs:
AND the guy developed color slide processing as well. as a person fairly familiar with modern b/w processing at home, but never EVER stepping into color (negatives or slides) territory, iβd say, BAMF to the highest degree.Β
Here are a few more Prokudin-Gorskiy / Gorskii shots, and a reminder once again that these arenβt recently colourised BW images but original colour photos taken about 120 years ago. Many colourised pics donβt look this good. Some modern colour pics donβt look this good (as I know all too well. βDelete image Y/N? Y!β)

Shasta County residents voted by mail to get rid of mail voting and turn elections into in-person, one-day affairs.

Shasta County, a stalwart Republican stronghold that tilted to the MAGA right five years ago, has passed a local ballot measure that appears to flout state law by drastically restricting voting.
Measure BΒ calls for turning elections into one-day, hand-counted affairs; requires voters to show photo identification at the polls every time they vote; and all but eliminates mailed ballots and absentee ones.
As of late Monday afternoon, the proposed charter amendment wasΒ leadingΒ 55% to 45% with about 2,500 ballots left to process, not enough to change the outcome. Of the nearly 28,000 voters who supported Measure B's requirement to vote in person, nearly 25,000Β - 88%Β - voted for it by mail,Β election statisticsΒ show.
Measure BΒ directly conflicts with state laws thatΒ restrict hand counts,Β guarantee vote-by-mail ballotsΒ for every registered voter and prohibit local governments from adopting their own voter ID requirements. The state LegislatureΒ passed the latterΒ provision in 2024 after anΒ earlier dust-upΒ between the state and the Orange County city of Huntington Beach. The California Supreme CourtΒ struck down Huntington Beach's voter ID measure, passed in 2024, in January.
A spokesperson for California Attorney General Rob Bonta said his office is watching the election in Shasta County.
"We are closely monitoring the Measure B results and, if necessary, stand ready to take appropriate action to protect voters' rights and enforce state election laws," Walter Garcia, Bonta's spokesperson, said in a statement.
Shasta County has been aΒ tinderbox of election-related conspiraciesΒ for years, promoted by a faction of true believers, far-right secessionists and outside influencers who wrongly insist that President Donald Trump won in 2020 and that local results are manipulated despite the fact that Trump won Shasta County in each of the past three presidential elections.

A judge appointed by Gov. Laura Kelly said Kansas likely violated parental rights by restricting gender-affirming care for trans minors.
The judge found 349 individual facts supported the continued provision of gender-affirming care.
Republican Attorney General Kris Kobach brought forward a litany of anti-trans witnesses familiar from litigation defending these bans. Among them was James Cantor, a Toronto psychologist who has built a career testifying for states defending care bans despite no clinical experience treating transgender minorsβand who was once quietly dropped from a Florida Board of Medicine hearing after it emerged he had served on the advisory council of the Prostasia Foundation, a group that has worked to destigmatize pedophilia. Folsom wrote that Cantor "has not conducted any original scientific research on the efficacy or safety of gender dysphoria treatments," and noted he is not licensed to treat anyone under 16 and has never diagnosed a minor with gender dysphoria. [...] "The Court gives Dr. Cantor's testimony little weight," Folsom concluded. The judge turned next to Farr Curlin, a Duke University doctor and theologian who was an author of the Trump administration's HHS report on pediatric gender dysphoria ... By his own admission, Folsom noted, Curlin's views are "radically counter to current medical orthodoxy." The judge found his opinions "appear motivated by his personal views as opposed to a methodology applicable in the field of medical ethics," and gave his testimony "little-to-no weight." ...
And then there was Jamie Reed, the self-styled "whistleblower" who built a national profile on lurid, largely unsubstantiated accusations against a St. Louis gender clinic and who has gone on Fox News to describe being transgender as a delusion. Reed also did not testify and could not be cross-examined. Folsom gave her affidavit "little weight,β and had scathing remarks towards her lack of expertise: βThe Court gives thus Jamie Reedβs affidavit little weight, given that she is not a medical provider or mental-health professional. In addition, her affidavit primarily addresses her experiences with a clinic operating outside of Kansasβthus, it does not rebut or refute the credible, uncontroverted testimony about clinical practice within the state of Kansas,β read the order.
This decision is 117 pages long, and if you want to actually feel good about something a judge has had to say recently about trans rights, this is legitimately a good read. (I understand that some people do not read legal decisions for fun. You should still try reading this one. It's really good.)
Given how thoroughly and completely he eviscerates the supposed qualifications and relevance of the same tired grievance actors that the right totes from case to case like a basket of moldy oranges, I hope that this decision will not only act as an example for future judges, but save them a bunch of work, because they don't have to then go do all of the writing themselves on how much these people suck, they can just cite this decision.
I am probably an extremely rare bird, in being a non-lawyer who thorougly enjoys reading a good quality, well reasoned, well supported judicial decision. And I will say that this one is truly something special. This judge went far, far beyond the normal demands of his job in researching and writing this decision - doing everything he possibly could to make it resistant to being overturned. The amount of work that went into this one is pretty much comparable to the work someone might do to earn a masters degree - and the judge did it for just this one case. I am truly impressed.
always doing something annoying
can I be honest? I was so pissed off by friends and family criticizing my soap choice that, for half a year, I did an experiment where I washed one hand with Palmolive and one with handsoap, to prove that it didn't make your skin any rougher. and do you know what the result is? it does make your skin rougher. and now I'm even more pissed off.
bitches be sucking farts there
Found the source of the infographic that explains how the results were obtained!
thereβs sixteen Colorado counties that their most searched was βwolf furryβ, plus thirty-odd counties (not counting either Arapahoe or any of the ones marked here as βInsufficient Dataβ) which may well have had plenty of searches for βwolf furryβ, just fewer than for whatever theyβre labeled here
and βskunk furryβ searches in Arapahoe County outnumbered βwolf furryβ searches in the entire state of Colorado
something tells me Skunks Georg
we did it, we created furry gerrymandering
I am deeply, deeply disappointed that the number one Furry in Arapahoe isnβt BLUCIFER.

I think one of the funniest abortion stances I've heard was from my parents neighbor. He's a like, hard-core libertarian viking larper guy who is very tall and very fat and very bald.
He believes a fetus is human with a soul, but also its "basically attacking the woman's body" so if she wants to get rid of it, that's "basically self-defense". He compared it to shooting a home invader. So he supports abortion not as healthcare, but as killing a baby in self-defense
Y'know I'm so glad someone reminded me of this. Because this was also discussed.
My stepmother did NOT like the way her Libertarian Viking Neighbor framed pregnancy as the fetus "attacking the woman". She incredulously told him this was extremely disrespectful to expectant mothers to portray pregnancy as so violent and negative.
Libertarian Viking Neighbor's response was that people consensually hurt each other all the time, and "there's like a whole community about that, with the acronym the one that starts with a B" And his reasoning was that if the mother was consenting to bring attacked by the baby, it in fact wasn't violent and negative because there was consent.
He brought up people consensually hurting each other, didn't go for one of the obvious answers like boxing or body mods or something, no he went STRAIGHT TO BDSM and he DIDN'T EVEN REMEMBER THE ACRONYM
