Ultimately, my opinion doesn't matter...but I don't see how a certain casting in this stageplay is gonna end well. The character in question is African.... and I looked at the actress and...well... She's light skin if her pictures are any indication.

I guess they can use the excuse "but they're Japanese/they don't know better/black japanese actresses are hard to come by" and....well......sounds like bs excuses in this day and age.

I mean, I ultimately have no say because I don't live in Japan nor am I black, but....idk. Still seems....eh....

Anyways, I can see this end 3 ways at this rate:

1.) Last minute recast to someone afro-japanese/black (ideal(?) but unlikely...)

2.) They do blackface on the actress

or

3.) They DON'T do blackface and it can be considered whitewashing of the character

Unless I'm missing a 4th option, 2 out of 3 of those conclusions don't sound good.

And no matter what...I just get the feeling only the western side of the fandom will be bothered by this if and when they find out. It was like that when various artwork of another black character got repeatedly whitewashed...it looked like only parts of the eng-side of the fandom spoke up.

I guess its the fact that this is a Japan thing is why I feel no one in JP fandom really cares...like, most of the messages were congratulating the actress for obtaining the role so......

Ok I'll shut up this casting thing bothers me but idk. Everytime I wanna talk about stuff like this I get shut down immediately so that's why i'm dumping my rant in the only place I know no one would care: tumblr
