Last night I learned that it was International Fairy Day...

Last night husband was doing his usual bedtime games with our daughter - they rotate through roughhousing they have made up, like "gimme my money!" where he holds her by her ankles over the bed or "windy" where he twirls around with her on his back shouting that it's too windy and he's going to have to drop her on the bed, she loves it - and he held onto her wrist during a game a bit longer than usual as he put her down (he was afraid she was going down too hard and would hit her head on the headboard) and something happened that caused her pain all night. She stayed in bed with me until midnight crying and then husband gave her more medicine and a melatonin. She woke up crying for me at 4:30am and I gave her more medicine and replaced her ice packs.

I know it's been less than a week, but I must admit that not hitting snooze, getting sunshine quickly after getting out of bed, light movement, eating food before coffee, and not using my phone before bed has resulted in me already waking up on time, more refreshed, and with more energy.

At least with all that driving yesterday, I got almost all the way through my audiobook. I have already read some of the primary sources this author draws from (specficially, Steller's Journal), but I have to admit, he does an excellent job combining sources, adding context, and telling a great story. One example, he points out, that, when they first made landing in what is now Alaska and celebrated with cups of hot chocolate on deck afterwards, that chocolate had been harvested in South America, carried by ship to Spain, processed in the Netherlands, shipped to Moscow, hauled across Siberia by sled dog, only to be consumed just north of where it started (in fact, that area, while not having been physically explored by Spain, was claimed by it) - in the 1740s!

8 hours of driving in one day, but Dad's oncology appointment went well, I helped him with chores around the house, and maybe it wasn't all so stressful because we sat next to a harpist at the hospital?

Went to a little arboretum yesterday. It's not run by any university or government, just a property that was donated and nurtured by volunteers - we love it.
