When I call the current American conservative xtian movement (there is nothing Christ like about them) the 'Whore of Babylon' - a Book of Revelations reference describing the false Church - this is what I mean. With my partner about to return home after a 10 month deployment, I decided I better get this project done I've been procrastinating on. We occupy a large, single room loft space (sort of studio apartment 'ish... just no bathroom or shower). My computer set up - monitors mostly - are aimed just right to shine into the bed area. Since we sometimes sleep slightly different schedules, if he's in bed and I'm working on my computer.... it creates issues. In this picture, I'm standing right beside my monitors looking back over the couch into the bed area, You can imagine the glow hitting that back wall late at night - and trying to sleep through that!

Previously we used a "room" screen in place behind the couch. It worked ok, but also blocked access to cupboards in the back corner. So when he deployed I took it down, knowing I'd have to figure something out before e returned.

I was at IKEA a couple months ago and discovered this cable based curtain system. Since the room has sloped loft style ceilings - I thought this would be perfect! But they sat around collecting dust since they weren't high priority yet.

BUT suddenly he was returning home - so this weekend became installation time!

This picture shows the cable and anchor points to deal with the funky ceilings after installation. I managed to tweak my back getting that lowest one in. Hope it doesn't knock me flat tomorrow!

The only thing left was to figure out the curtain. I have a bolt of 63 inch wide blue fabric. It is somewhere between a stage velvet and heavy velour. In dark blue. Perfect for this project! I had to figure out odd angles and cut to shape. Luckily, I've sewn enough large canvas tent before, I got the geometry right on the first try.

This final picture shows the curtain clipped onto the cable rod to test the fit. It was dusty enough, I decided a wash and dry was in order. Tomorrow I'll sew some quick hems top and bottom and my room dividing curtain will be complete!

Meet Harriet. She lives at a house around the corner from us. She has adopted our porch as her second home, probably because we put food out for they neighborhood strays. We enjoy her visits!

Testing my connectors - mostly for BlueSky as my last post failed.

Stumbled on this video about different quality linens. When I have more time I need to see how many in the list ship to the US and see how ridiculous the price would be. Still, even if they don't, lots of good information about qualities of Linen.

Time to start the photo albums! Here is Sylvie (from last year) sprawling on her garden pot of catnip. The catnip hasn't yet become active this year and grown enough for her to get to. BUT she still checks it out when she gets outdoor time. Be patient Sylvie.... spring is here and it will grow again.

I grew up fully aware of my French Canadian ancestry. My grandmother (or Grammy as she preferred) didn't speak english until she was 10. And as I have been documenting my linage in hopes of re-establishing and being recognized as a Canadian citizen - I learned a LOT more about that history. My Grammy and her brother and sister, were born in one of those 'little Canada's' located in Maine. Their Grandparents being the generation that was pushed out of Canada in one of the many waves against the French colonies by the English colonies of what is now Canada.
