I present to you: the floating ao3 comment box!

From what I've seen, a big problem for many people is that once you reach the comments at the bottom of a fic, your memory of it miraculously disappears. Anything you wanted to say is stuck ten paragraphs ago, and you barely remember what you thought while reading. This fixes that!

I'll give a little explanation on the features and how it works, but if you want to skip all that, here's the link.

The extension is visible as a small blue box in the upper left corner.

(Side note: The green colouring is not from the extension, that's me.)

If you click on it, you open a comment box window at the bottom of your screen but not at the bottom of the fic. I opened my own fic for demonstrative purposes.

The website also gives explanations on how exactly it functions, but I'll summarize regardless.

insert selection -> if you highlight a sentence in the fic it will be added in italics to the comment box

add to comment box -> once you're done writing your comment, you click this button and the entire thing will automatically copied to the ao3 comment box

delete -> self explanatory

on mulitchapter fics, you will be given the option to either add the comment to just the current chapter or the entire fic

The best part? You can simply close the window the same way you opened it and your progress will automatically be saved. So you can open it, comment on a paragraph, and then close it and keep reading without having the box in your face.

shower. not a bath, a shower. use water as hot or cold as u like. u dont even need to wash. just get in under the water and let it run over you for a while. sit on the floor if you gotta.

moisturize everything. use whatever lotion u like. unscented? dollar store lotion? fancy ass 48 hour lotion that makes u smell like a field of wildflowers? use whatever you want, and use it all over. 

put on clean, comfortable clothes. 

put on ur favorite underwear. cute black lacy panties? those ridiculous boxers u bought last christmas with candy cane hearts on the butt? put em on.

drink cold water. use ice. if u want, add some mint or lemon for an extra boost.

clean something. doesn’t have to be anything big. organize one drawer of ur desk. wash five dirty dishes. do a load of laundry. scrub the bathroom sink. 

blast music. listen to something upbeat and dancey and loud, something that’s got lots of energy. sing to it, dance to it, even if you suck at both.

make food. don’t just grab a granola bar to munch. take the time and make food. even if it’s ramen. add something special to it, like a hard boiled egg or some veggies. prepare food, it tastes way better, and you’ll feel like you accomplished something. 

make something. write a short story or a poem, draw a picture, color a picture, fold origami, crochet or knit, sculpt something out of clay, anything artistic. even if you don’t think you’re good at it.

go outside. take a walk. sit in the grass. look at the clouds. smell flowers. put your hands in the dirt and feel the soil against your skin.

call someone. call a loved one, a friend, a family member, call a chat service if you have no one else to call. talk to a stranger on the street. have a conversation and listen to someone’s voice. if you can’t, text or email or whatever, just have some social interaction with another person. even if you don’t say much, listen to them.

Cousins, if someone ever edits your photo with Al or Photoshop to create a nude photo, then you go to www.stopncii.org/and submit the original photo and the edited photo, then they will remove the edited photo from all the places on the Internet. You don't need to talk directly to anyone for this and your identity will remain confidential

I had this stuck in my head, how much different is Derek's and Scott's response to Stiles protecting his father and how he does that.

Like he’s a teenage guy that wears plaid shirts and converse literally everyday and clearly has zero interest in any sort of fashion. He’s not the cutesy shy type of nerd who’s quiet and small. He’s canonically a Star Wars, MMORPG, comic book, info-dumping-the-most-random-shit-you’ve-ever-heard sort of nerd, who’s loud and takes up space. He’s not wearing flower crowns, he’s cracking jokes with people he met on the internet over Skype and building a Death Star Lego set while drinking Mountain Dew into god awful hours of the morning.

So I don’t really have much interest in stories where Stiles is super feminine and frolics through meadows in white sundresses. That just doesn’t feel like Stiles to me.

But I do think Stiles is the type of guy that’s sort of pretty — sort of really pretty, actually, and has Stilinski always looked like that in the sunlight? Not in a way that’s immediately show-stopping in the halls, but in the way that the longer you look at him, the prettier you think he is.

The type of pretty where someone will be in the stupidest argument of their life with him, and somewhere in the middle their mind just sort of… trails off. Because has Stiles always looked like this? Has he always had such a slim face with nice angles and good proportions and the definition of doe eyes? And then Stiles will say something stupid and the spell will break, but now they just can’t see his face the same way again.

The type of pretty where a person won’t notice it for years, even when they pass by him daily in the halls, but one day they catch him staring out the window in class and their mouth goes a little dry. Not enough to fall head over heels instantly or something, but enough that they always look at him a little differently after that.

The type of pretty where Stiles is begging classmate for their homework, or a teacher for an extension, or a deputy to not tell his dad about something, and it’s stupid and they’re unimpressed and… then they get a good look at those big brown eyes with lashes that are criminally long for a guy, and they find themselves sort of caving without meaning to.

And Stiles has no idea.

He’s not really into girly stuff so it just doesn’t ever occur to associate himself with the word “pretty.” He just knows he’s kind of lanky and average height and there’s nothing particularly striking about him. He knows he’s uncoordinated on a good day and into hobbies that land him square in loser territory. He knows he’s not what most girls (or guys) picture when they think of their ideal type.

So he’s oblivious when he gets a little too close and someone stares a half-beat too long, or someone shoots him a second glance, or someone makes a begrudging show about it but still hands him their notes.

Feminine isn’t a word I’d ever use to describe Stiles, but I do think he’s subtly pretty until it’s suddenly not subtle anymore.

the fact that it's not a single chosen one but a group of three

the fact that the honmoon is not powered by the hunters themselves but by the energy and love of the fans

the fact that gwi-ma turns people into demons by promising that he is the only one who can help them when he is in fact reliant on his army of demons to collect souls for him

the fact that "your idol" is about surrendering yourself to a single higher power while "golden" is about soaring to new heights together

the fact that gwi-ma preys on people's individual insecurities and shame to get inside their heads while rumi, mira, and zoey set them free in the end by encouraging them to embrace their differences and reminding them that they're not alone

the fact that you can see the audience cheering individually and even pushing into each other to get closer to the stage during "your idol"

while they're linking arms and cheering together and hugging during "what it feels like"

i have not seen the live action lilo and stitch but it feels like that movie sits on the opposite end of the spectrum from kpop demon hunters as a case study for how to tell a story in way that is culturally authentic and still resonates with a broader audience

and i think given that the core theme of the movie is all about community over individualism, the ending, particularly as it relates to rumi and jinu's budding romance, is really the perfect culmination of that broader theme

rumi and jinu's connection has all the hallmarks of that all-encompassing, all-consuming, borderline co-dependent first love where you keep your relationship a secret and sneak out of the house to meet up and feel like the other person is the ONLY person who really gets you

i'm the only one who can understand you, i'm the only one who will love you is the kind of thing that sounds romantic when you're 16 until you get older and realize how toxic it actually is and i love that the movie counters that in "what it sounds like" with rumi realizing that she had that love and support all along from her girls, and later, from the fans who continue to cheer them on through their comeback

it's about connection and sisterhood and love and sharing your fears and lifting each other up and becoming stronger and better together

and as compelling as i found rumi/jinu and as much as i would like to see their relationship explored more in a sequel/series, i just really love that this movie, which is clearly targeted at young women, ends on the message that romantic love is not the end all be all, that friendship is just as important if not more so than a romantic partner, that single women can lead successful, fulfilling lives, that true happiness and freedom start from within

I was always of the opinion that the Nogitsune chose Stiles for a lot of different reasons.

One because as a human he would instinctively be protected by the pack which meant no one would want to hurt him and he would not be seen as a threat.

Scott: "There's a way to save him. There has to be."

Derek: "You think Stiles, skinny, defenceless Stiles, is the Nogitsune? A powerful dark spirit?"

Two because of the ritual he, Scott and Allison did to save their parents which left them open to a darkness.

Deaton: "It will also have an effect on the three of you. You won't be able to see it, but you'll feel it. Every day. For the rest of your lives."

Three, and the one I find most interesting, is because the Nogitsune wanted to stay hidden. It was still weak from being trapped by Yukimura so it wanted to bide it's time and build it's strength. It wanted to find itself a host that it wouldn't lose to the Oni too soon. In order to do this it had to make sure no one saw it coming (the pack or Yukimura) and who is the person who watches for threats more than anyone? Stiles.

Nogitsune: "And Stiles heard it like he hears everything."

Stiles was the planner most of the time and he kept everyone in mind. He was a perfect source of information and an all around great player to take off the board before anyone knew the Nogitsune was even among them. (Even with it taking Stiles out of the game Stiles was still the one to warn the others about himself.)

Ironically enough the thing that brought the Nogitsune's eventual end was when it also underestimated Stiles. It split them because it saw obtaining another powerful tool for his game as worth giving up it's first tool.

It thought gaining power of the Oni would win it the game and it was ultimately right. Once it had control over them it became an almost unstoppable force and by the time the pack (Allison) figured out how to properly deal with them the damage had been too wide spread for them to truly come back from so easily. To come back from without a lot more deaths. (The hospital, the Sheriff's Station, etc) It was a move that should have won the game for the Nogitsune but it neglected to really consider one key fact, a fact that no doubt countless people neglected to consider, and that was that Stiles was a threat too even if he was only human.

Because who figured out how to kill the Oni? Who took away the Nogitsune's biggest player on the board?

Stiles.

And if the Nogitsune hadn't gotten arrogant or so caught up in winning the game as soon as possible then maybe it would have won. If it had been patient and kept control over Stiles instead of splitting them then Stiles wouldn't have been able to figure out how to defeat the Oni and they wouldn't have been able to kill it (trap it again).

But it didn't do that and in the end Stiles proved yet again that you don't need to be supernatural in order to kick ass.

I’d like to add this photo I took last night in Victoria of the statue of Captain Cook. Though I myself am not indigenous, I 100% agree that these murderers, kidnappers and rapists shouldn’t have huge statues and plaques that decorate them and say how “great” they were.

Here’s another photo of the legislative assembly from yesterday. Later on there were more items, candles and signs at the memorial, as well as a big poster with 1505 painted on it but I didn’t get a picture

People need to see this. Not just quickly glance at the photos and keep on scrolling. They need to see this.

I went to a “Cancel Canada Day” event and burst into tears - not because I was surprised to learn of the unmarked graves (survivors told us they were there. Our government pushed it aside, and we let them), but because seeing all the people gathered in mourning drove it home: They. Were. Children.

This is my country’s legacy - and it’s not history. The last schools closed during my lifetime. My Father went to school with students who lived at the local residential school, after it was changed to a boarding house (read: holding centre) for indigenous youth who went to local schools.
