Just watched the talented mr ripley for the first time and I gotta say. Matt Johnson naming it as a direct influence for ntbts (i think specifically the scrapped movie/s3?) has gotta be in the top 5 most insane things hes ever said

relating to both matt and jay is all fun and games until you realize you are way more like matt than you are like jay and then its like. the emotional equivalent of 17 simultaneous 9/11s happening inside your brain

trying to explain nirvanna the band the show is so funny. it's like yes it's about two insane men who are in a band. they're also roommates, they're also each other's only friends. No, the cameramen who constantly follow and quite possibly even live with them don't count, they're nothing, don't worry about them, they aren't even really here. it's about wanting something that is easily attainable but you can't say that unless you want your whole life and its purpose to fall apart. yea, achieving your dream is essentially living your nightmare, don't worry about it. it is an endless sleepover, every moment is imbued with the weight of a lifetime. there are a lot of cringe jokes and movie references. the men who make it have the same names as their characters but this is fine this is enrichment for them this is healthy and safe and sane, certainly. it's about mythologizing the mundane, the sanctity of small spaces and worlds built in the soft glow of your home. it is also almost impossible to recommend to anyone because of the slurs. the leads are actually best friends. it's all real the same way you can't remember if something happened in a dream or in real life. it might not immediately feel this way but keep watching keep watching keep watching keep watchi-[gunshot]
