awww the like button turns into a rainbow when you press it! that's so cute...hey staff what's with all the trans women you keep nuking?
i think we should be ridiculing them more for this. you don't get to try and go all "queer website" when your staff likes to go on nuking sprees targeting the trans fem users
would be remiss not to mention that the rainbow notably straight up just removed the trans flag colors from it. like they’re gone. it’s the progress flag minus the trans flag colors.
that’s not the whole flag, now is it
hey staff what the fuck
hey staff don't you think you're being too on-the-nose
HEY STAFF DONT YOU THINK YOU'RE BEING TOO ON-THE-NOSE
Everyone meet just a normal goose :)
Glad you guys like this totally normal goose!
I am making everyone remember normal goose
Well, I can not find the original separate post of this so I’m just going to tack these on here
rereading your own fics/wips is a very slippery slope into finding out you actually have to finish your fics if you want them finished
is there such a thing as a beta but instead of reading for line edits or plot notes, they just read my work and recommend what tags to put on ao3 outside of like. warnings.
Lulu's Totally Unofficial Guide to the Top 10 Freeform Tags to Add to Your Fanfic
Genre - Fluff, Angst, Hurt/Comfort, Slice of Life, Case Fic, etc.
AU - If it's an AU, what kind? What role do each of the characters play? How is it different to their canon role?
Parts of canon - If it's not an AU, what part of canon is it about? Is it set before, during or after a particular episode?
Themes - Are there any topics or ideas which you are trying to explore, or which come up repeatedly?
Minor Warnings - Is there anything you think you should warn for that isn't included in the archive warnings?
Format & Length - Is your work art, video, podfic, etc? Does it use a particular format like a Drabble or 5+1?
Characters - What is going on with each of your major characters? If you had to describe them with one or two adjectives, what would you pick? (Format as [Adjective] [Character Name].)
Relationships - What is going on with each of your major relationships? Are there any relationship tropes like Slow Burn or Enemies to Lovers in your story?
Tropes - Are there any tropes or common story elements in your story that haven't been tagged yet? If your work was on TV tropes, what are the first things you would add?
Sex - If your work includes sex, what kink(s) and specific act(s) does it involve?
Remember: you can always look at the drop-down menu for suggestions. But! If you want to tag something that doesn't appear on the drop-down menu, you can & should write in a new tag!
This is a good guide!
This is one of the things r/ao3 is actually pretty helpful for, in fact I think centrumlumina's guide is almost word-for-word match for advice that i see posted regularly on there. Its also great for "here's a thing that happens in my story/i want to warn readers about, is there a tag for that?" (Or even "this tag i already know about doesn't suit my purposes for xyz reasons. What can i do instead?")

ok so this is another long shot but a few years ago there was a twitter post (in japanese i think?) that had measurememts for how to make this book stand thing out of cardboard that you could use to double up books and use up more space on shelves
back then i made a bunch of these but by now i lost the pic and dont know how to find the original post anymore
if it comes down to it i can just take one apart and get the measurements from there but i would be very grateful if anyone happens to have the original post or something similar??
don't mind how long it's been since i made this post, anyway i realized that i don't even need to take one apart to get the measurements when i can literally just unfold it and refold it /FACEPALM
so anyway here is the diagram for anyone else who is interested!!
this requires pretty big carboard pieces, if you have a really big box or something you can make it from one piece, but if you don't, you can also just make each of the pieces individually and then tape them together
and then in the end you put it together like this!!
and then when you make a bunch you can put them all next to each other and stack your books like crazy
EVERYONE START GETTING MORE USE OUT OF YOUR SPACE NOW!!!!
I always forget how much of writing a long fic is just going back to make sure you remembered a detail right for when you mention it again a few chapters later.
You're right and you should say it.

Day 18
you get a comment on tumblr. it's a bot trying to scam you. you get a DM. it's a bot trying to scam you. you get a message on instagram. its a bot trying to scam you. you're an author and you get an email telling you how much they loved your book and want to showcase it at their bookclub. it's a bot trying to scam you (and it uses bad AI to pretend it knows your story). you get a comment on ao3 saying how much they love your fic - and they made you fanart!! it's a bot trying to scam you. you get a hate comment on ao3 which insults your writing or calls you a monster for writing something "problematic". it's a bot. but at least that one isn't trying to scam you.
there's just something really cruel and insidious about this wave of scams going after creatives. You get an email and think someone genuinely loved what you made but - no. It's another scam. It's someone trying to trick you into sending them money. On AO3, it might literally just be a bot someone made specifically to be a hateful little shit.
putting the stuff you've made out there for everyone to see is hard and scary and we're all just bumping around looking for a bit of appreciation and love and connection and these bastards are using that to try to rob us. I hate it.
Im going go get into the sea and stay there
okay come forward which of you reposted this to reddit lmao I SEE YOU
Cinderella is public domain but Disney might come after me for “bippity boppity.”
just your daily gentle reminder to go and write that story you so desperately want to read.
go on now, do it.
cause turns out i want to read it too. so go write it or else.
To my fellow artists: check out ColorGuesser
No but seriously. Other than the main game, which is a fun exercise in and of itself where you have to guess colors based on their name, like this:
There's this whole host of options for things you can do on the site.
Contrast checker helps you with foreground/background, especially with text but honestly you can use the same logic on drawings too
Palette Generator lets you pick a base color and construct a palette based on different types of color theory principles (complementary, analogous, triadic etc.)
Color converter is useful if you have a type of color code and need to switch to another
Color mixer, as the name suggests, lets you mix two colors and shows the blending steps below
Shades and Tints generates a string of hues from a base color, once again very useful if you are trying to work out the coloring of your drawing.
For each of these you can copy the hex code. Only problem is that you can't put in your own, so you will have to do a bit of maneuvering/guesswork if you're trying to find something that matches a color you've previously chosen.

Underused Ways to Show a Character Is Neglecting Themself
Everyone writes “they looked tired.” But let's look closer.
Here are some quick ways to show a character is neglecting themselves (without saying "they were neglecting themselves"):
• They drink coffee instead of eating again
• They never ask for help
• They keep wearing the same jacket even when it’s too warm
• Their phone battery is always at 3%
• Spending a long time away from others
• They say “I’ll eat later” three times in the same day
• Withdrawing quietly when stressed rather than seeking help
• Their place runs out of small things (soap, clean cups, toothpaste)
• Always late or overdue on bills
• They sleep in strange places because the bed is buried under things
• Using alcohol or substances to cope
• Overworking or staying constantly busy to avoid thinking about personal needs
• They stop replacing things that break
• Being highly critical of themselves while being extremely compassionate toward others
• They forget what day it is, but remember every obligation
• Lack of concern about their own wellbeing (acting reckless/stupid)
• They open the fridge, stare, and close it again
• Their laundry slowly becomes “the chair”
• Saying "I'm fine" to everything.
• Being the “listener” or emotional support for everyone else, but rarely opening up themselves
• Someone asks if they’ve eaten and they have to actually think about it
Those are some quick tips. Reblog if you want more. Idk if people like these. <3
