Group A: Solas is easy to get along with. You literally just have to ask him questions, which is a completely normal thing to do when you first meet someone and want to get to know them - or when you discover someone is knowledgeable about a subject that you happen to be curious about.

Group B: Oh my god, Solas is so egotistical! He only likes questions about things that interest him, he makes it all about him! You have to suck up to him because all he cares about is himself!

Meanwhile, nearly every question you ask the other companions is also about them and the things that matter to them. So I suppose they must all be just as egotistical too.

And the fandom as a whole seems to just adore Dorian’s version of being really full of himself, but they condem Solas’ version because it isn’t quippy. It’s, as he phrases it himself, “grim and fatalistic.”

But in so many ways they are the same, at least as far as pride is concerned. Both think of themselves as the smartest guy in the room. Both think their ideas for social change is the only/superior option. Both really love to talk about themselves. The main difference is Solas is pretty blunt about it, while Dorian is more whimsical. It’s the same pride though!
