The Riven half of the new trophy icons for the Classic PS1 re-release! My favourite world to draw, and super fun getting to draw some alternate universe Gehns for a couple of the bad endings.
(The Myst trophy icons)
(Also you can get a blanket with all of these on it at the Cyan store! It rules)
The re-release of the Classic PS1 versions of Myst and Riven required new trophies, which required new trophy icons, and so I got permission to get a little weird and illustrative with it—super fun getting to revisit this world with a little bit of Mignola mixed in.

(Also you can get a blanket with all of these on it at the Cyan store and, speaking from experience, it is extremely cozy)

Six flags commercial from 2004 you most likely forgot about.
Nobody who has seen this has ever forgotten about it.
…look, I have videos on mute by default and my brain STILL played the music as if I were watching this on television from back then.
Very recently I encountered this song playing in the wild during an errand outing and my friend and I near in unison went "Oh it's the Six Flags song."

This opens up a lot of possibilities for what a haiku can be
LJ Archvr Archive tool
On Jan 1, 2026 no less I was alerted to a Bluesky post about the potential end of life for Livejournal. This reminded me of the year 2022. Russia was already tinkering with social networks back then so I set about to create an archive tool back then. Hours turned into days then weeks then months. I kept developing & improving it. It became an obsession. It worked really well but LJ was still up. I moved on. Change in administrations and all. The Jan 1st, 2026 post immediately reminded me I might have something relevant to the situation and if you are reading this then this Jan 11th, 2026 post may be relevant to you too.
What is it? What does it do?
Archives Public User Journals and Community Journals
If you are a member, you can sign in and archive member-only posts
Creates a spreadsheet inventory of every post that includes: date, time, post title, user who made the post if a community and total number of comments per post.
Offline html copy of all the posts saved in a generic theme for easy readability
It created offline links so you can navigate the journal using the previous < and next > links locally as if you were online.
We had time so we set about to master archiving Kink Memes. I didn't even know what they were, but I just knew they had lots and lots of comments. Lots. Did I say lots. I was surprised to here it archived over 300k thousand comments.
There is a mode called blender were you can stack a bunch of journals and click a button, and it will bulk archive multiple journals.
Someone asked if we could set up a method of just archiving a few individual pages not a whole journal. We added that too.
It can be found at LJArchivr.com
It does require a little setup which we are glad to help with but once that's done you are just clicking buttons. You need Windows or Parallels on the Mac and Microsoft Excel. Here is what someone said.
Ok, I am starting to feel like a salesman or influencer. I am only writing for those that may interest since this was also mentioned somewhere else here on Tumblr with the Caveat that it cost money. However, not much. Saying a little more about it here might help you determine if it's worth it. There was a lot of time spent developing it with feedback from Livejournal users and it's amazing how we keep seeing ways to make it better. This has now turned into a team project. On the horizon is archiving pics. For now, we recommend PDFing the HTMLs before the image links die (Ok, I think I am getting too technical. I should stop). We can also help you set it up because we want you to spend your time archiving. However, we included user friendly tutorials to do it yourself.
Can you archive my journal or community?
Yes! We know not everyone has Microsoft Windows and Microsoft Excel so if you have 1 or 2 smallish journals, you'd like us to archive let us know. We can put that in the blender and give you some nutritional nostalgia. However, please know if you want locked or private posts it's better you do it yourself using the tool. We don't want you to give us your username and password.
Fandom Archive Team
I did this on my own but with the help of one member of a team dedicated to preserving fandom works. However, there is a team if you are interested in helping with this project. Over 6600 journals have been archived already. You may not even need to archive because what you are looking to archive may have already been archived. This tool is useful for your own local copy of course. If you are interested in joining send an email to [email protected] and indicating that in your email.
Whether or not this is the end of Livejournal I think is better to archive during the less panicked days than during the last days where everyone is slamming the servers like it's a Black Friday sale. Don't wait for the next post on either here or Bluesky. Again, if you have any questions don't hesitate to contact us [email protected] I'll update this post based on feedback in case I need to add things I missed. Happy Archiving. 😊
Okay no I need to talk about the book version of Howl's Moving Castle. I love the movie but the book has such a different vibe and you, yes you, should read it.
Movie Howl is a soulful and quiet. Book Howl is a drama queen and Causing Problems and has a long string of jilted exes and couldn't shut up if you paid him.
Sophie and Howl drive each other up the wall at the beginning and it's really funny. Sophie and Howl are (despite themselves) very much in love by the end and they still drive each other up the wall and it's even funnier.
In the movie, Howl has been ordered by the king to participate in The War, and Howl is avoiding it because he is a brave conscientious objector. In the book, Howl has been ordered by the king to rescue his lost brother from the Witch of the Wastes, and Howl is avoiding it by any means necessary because he is a cowardly weasel who wants to stay as far from the Witch as possible.
In the movie, the Witch cursed Sophie because she was jealous about Howl speaking to Sophie for five minutes. In the book, the Witch cursed Sophie because Sophie had been doing surprisingly powerful magic for years without knowing it and it was actually starting to cut into the Witch's plans. (Sophie does not discover any of this until nearly the end of the book, but the reader can start to pick it up much earlier and the way Sophie's magic works is pretty darn cool.)
In the movie, there's a rumor that Howl eats the hearts of maidens, but this is implied to be nothing but nasty fearmongering. In the book, there's a rumor that Howl eats the hearts of maidens because Howl started the rumor so people would stop asking him to do wizard junk all the time.
The book lightly parodies a couple of tropes from Western fairy tales. In particular Sophie has internalized that, as the eldest of three sisters, her "destiny" is to fail so that her younger sisters will look cooler when they succeed, which is why she's so resigned to the hat shop at the beginning. (Sidebar: Sophie's sisters come up much more in the book and they're great.) There's also a really funny bit where Sophie attempts to operate a pair of seven-league boots.
In the movie, the fourth and final location that the magic door connects to is some sort of black void / mindscape / time portal dealy. In the book the fourth location is Wales, in the UK, on Earth, so that Howl can visit his family, because from Howl's perspective this is an isekai story.
THE VERY FIRST STAR TREK SLASH FIC PUBLISHED
“A Fragment out of Time”, published in 1974. Kirk / Spock. page 1 page 2
I had to share it with you because I can’t stop laughing, and every time I reread it it just gets funnier and fUNNIER
This fan fiction is older than the push-through tabs on soda cans.
Your grandma wrote this on her Commodore 64.
I miss my Commodore 64
Oh my dear, sweet children. The Commodore 64 came out in 1982. This was produced on a typewriter and probably mimeographed. And while it may seem funny now, it took more courage to write and distribute this than you will ever know.
Reblogged for that last comment.
respect your elders
Children, in the olden days fanfiction was written on a typewriter, copied and sent by snail mail. Getting one one of those letters from across the world was every bit as exciting as getting a notification that your favorite writer posted a new fic.
It’s been said before, but the fact that this fic begins with the dialogue assertion “We’re by no means setting a precedent” is endlessly amusing to me.
Diane Marchant changed all our lives. May she rest in peace.
The precedent line is especially amusing when you bear in mind that “A Fragment Out of Time” is not only the first Star Trek slashfic to be published in a widely distributed magazine: it’s believed by some to be the first slashfic of any kind to be widely published.
In 1974 it was illegal to send pornography through the USPS. So distributing fic like this via mailed newsletter was literally dangerous. And they knew it.

No because this is how every Howl/Sophie interaction plays out in the book
I love both the book and movie dearly but Howl's Moving Castle is one of my favorite books so I'm a little biased and I'm Normal about the things that I like
when you go to a doctors office their favorite thing to do is tell you "okay check out at the front desk" when you're done. and the front desk tells you ummm you can just go! and you're like don't I have a copay? and they're like we don't know, we have to ask your insurance company first. and you're like well my insurance card says the copay is $30, can I just pay it right now while I'm standing in front of you? there's a card reader right there on the desk. and they're like nooo we have to send a representative on horseback during the next waning moon to meet with their claims adjusting associate director of benefits management and client services in the secret glade to negotiate. and you're like oh okay and go home. and you get twelve emails asking you to take a survey about your experience
AND THEN in eight months you start getting phone calls from unknown numbers and when you finally check your voicemail they're like Your Balance Is Past Due We're Going To Kill You (even though by this point you have forgotten that you ever went to the doctor). and so you go to your MyChart account and log in with your username and password and you have to reset your password for security reasons. and you get two emails that say Your Password Has Been Reset. Was This You? and you have to go find your phone and enter your two factor authentication code and then you have to select which location you visited and then you have to click through all the Reminder: Complete Your Health History Profile where they ask if you've had any new surgeries even though you definitely told the nurse about this at your visit and then you have to find the Pay Bills tab and your balance is $179.23 and you're like why is it so expensive I thought the copay was $30? and you download a PDF of the charges and find out that they charged a late fee of $15 a month even though that doesn't add up to $179.23 and you don't even remember being told you had any balance at any point and you could call a representative and ask about it but that would probably take at least half an hour and there's no way it would actually get rid of the charges. so you go pay it anyway and you have to go find a paper check to look up your bank account routing number because they'll charge you an extra 3% if you pay with a credit card and there's a fee of $2.75 for convenience also. and then you get three emails that say We've Received Your Payment! Thank You For Your Payment!
When the English and French names of a food product share a word, Canadian bilingual labelling will sometimes just smoosh them together to save space.
For example, curds in cream is known as "cottage cheese" in English and "fromage cottage" in French, so the bilingual label will often read "fromage cottage cheese".
Predictably, some people jokingly squish this together even further to yield "frottage cheese" – and critically, not everyone who does this is aware that "frottage" is a real word.
You wouldn't expect the dairy aisle to be the site of regular "do they know?" moments, and yet.
Happy May the Fourth! I added a second page to this comic from last year!
