“So... We got the exploding diarrhea. Here's my advice for anyone who doesn't have it yet:
It's going to take a minute for the government to pin down where this is coming from, and then issue a recall, because the FDA has been gutted. But, I can tell you, without a shadow of a doubt : this is coming from Taylor Farms produce, and you will see them recalled.
You'll want to avoid all Taylor Farms produce in the grocery store. They supply McDonalds, KFC, Pizza Hut, about any fast food place you can think of.
Raspberries, watermelons, cilantro, and the veggies you're hearing about are not causing this many people to get sick. It's the shredded lettuce, specifically, that's the problem. But, you'll want to stay away from every type of produce this company puts out, because one strand of shredded lettuce is all it takes to contaminate bushels.
Taylor Farms is the source. Taco Bell proactively pulled their produce from their restaurants. You're going to see other fast food places doing this, and probably will see that before the government names a source. The FDA knows this, but they can't come out and tell us all until there's proof, which takes resources and research, which takes manpower, but the FDA has been cut by about 20-30%
During the Biden term, onions at McDonald's had ecoli. We knew this because DNA testing was done quickly and they were able to narrow it down to one place that caused the outbreak. And, it was traced back to Taylor Farms. This isn't going to be solved as quickly though.
When you get this, make a virtual appointment to your PCP - a "same day sick" appointment. Tell them someone in your family just tested for this and was positive and was prescribed Bactrim. If you go in person, they're probably going to make you poop in a cup and wait until results come back to prescribe.
You'll know when you get this. Trust me on all of this.
You'll want to stay hydrated because this parasite damages the lining of the small intestine. Your small intestine, in turn, secretes more water into the gut, and less nutrients and liquid are able to remain in the body. So no matter how much you shit, you're going to want to drink. A day of this leads to dehydration if you don't increase your fluid intake, and a few days will land you in the hospital.
If you have headaches, weakness, muscle cramps, dizziness, or an increase heart rate - hydrate, hydrate, hydrate. Go to the ER for fluids if you can't drink enough.

Water is way more hydrating than soda, but soda is more hydrating than nothing. A balanced meal is way more nutritious than ice cream, but ice cream is more nutritious than nothing.
Something is better than nothing. Some hydration is better than no hydration. Some nutrients are better than no nutrients. Some produce is better than no produce.
Don't let societally imposed food guilt trick you into believing that nothing is a better choice. Nourishing your body, however you can, is always the better choice. Fed is best. Always.

If you ever hear the phrase "fascism is aesthetics as politics," that's what this post is talking about.
It's not about being tough on crime, because the absolute toughest most brutal measure you could take against "crime" as a social problem is to alleviate poverty, and increase access to education, healthcare and social mobility.
It's about performing "tough on crime" as an aesthetic by enacting violence against a prop, i.e. minorities and the impoverished, who are fetishized and objectified to represent "crime." They are brutalized as punishment for crime, but never with the purpose of alleviating the problem of crime.
This is why a lot of conservatives and other right wingers can get straight up angry when you suggest things like reform or social measures to reduce crime. They don't want crime to be reduced, they want an eternal war against "crime" because it provides an arena for the righteous to demonstrate virtue by brutalizing their enemies.

This is going to be the Reina episode, I can feel it.
Bombermon is cool as heck, what a great monster of the week Digimon! I've always had a soft spot for the floatie ghosties dating all the way back to Bakemon and Phantomon in Adventure. Very neat.
Good thing they've got plenty of time to give Reina pep talks and let her have flashbacks and all that, it's not like there's a time bomb or anything...
And it's also a good thing that in Digimon you can often just get things to happen by believing hard enough. Half sarcasm. Like don't get me wrong I adore Reina and Pristimon but it kind of feels like they just got handed Ultimate because everyone else was already there and power levels or whatever. Gekkomon and Chiropmon's Ultimate forms feel like they were earned.
I also don't really like Bearcatmon's design? I'm sure it'll grow on me. She looks like a Champion level. Hopefully her mega (if she even gets one) looks cooler.
Overall kind of a disappointing episode. Wait, did Chairman Wong just fucking die?
Episode 36:
OK right off the back we have Chairman Wong getting kidnapped by GIFT (so he didn't get exploded after all) and will be apparently forced to announce not only the existence of Digimon but the crimes that have committed against them. The plot is moving at breakneck speed again! That being said, how did they kidnap him?? Did he let himself be captured? Is that even him? There's no way he doesn't have a super powerful Digimon partner, but even if he somehow doesn't there are the remaining Five Stars...
The weird lesbians showing up out of nowhere dramatically on top of a building got a good chuckle out of me. How did nobody notice them climbing up there?
Kaito and Honoka both have slutty cutouts in the sides of their shirts. None of the other Five Stars have this. I love them, they're a match made in hell
Lilamon calls Rose "older sister", that's actually really cute omfg. Rose and her weird lesbian underlings and her little sister Digimon might actually be my favorite of the Five Stars I'm not gonna lie

Mephismon is really creepy! Amazing!! Even the way the black and red clouds were animated clashed so much with the scenery that it's very intimidating!
I almost forgot that Tomoro has a fucked up e-pulse until he grabbed Miharu's hand. Can't wait to find out what that did. But first, tragic backstory! The parallels between Tomoro and Miharu are very obvious of course. Lost their parents at a young age (I don't remember if Tomoro's are dead or just in jail?), older sibling had to step in and take care of them at far too young of an age, lost their older sibling in probably a highly preventable way... though I'm pretty sure Chifuyu is dead and not just cold-hearted. Oh and black e-pulse! They can both make black e-pulse!
It's always a good sign when a Wizardmon shows up. Definitely not about to get super tragic in this flashback, no siree

That's how Miharu is able to have a normally functioning Sapotama, that Mephismon is the evolved form of her older sister's Wizardmon and she is supplying him with e-pulse

I have never been more glad that I wait to watch these in groups of 3-4 episodes at a time because WOW
Anyway
One thing I've never understood is why Tomoro and Gekkomon became so intensely fixated on Miharu so quickly. Like after seeing those flashbacks it would make sense for them to be desperate to save her, but even before that they were. Oh well, teenage boys I guess?
In the end we got a better idea of how Chairman Wong feels about Digimon, a very threatening Digimon is now just a little baby under Kyo's care, Miharu got arrested, and that's it for GIFT I guess? Feels like the arc could have lasted longer but they showed remarkable restraint by ending it quickly. Back to fighting the Five Stars I guess?

It's been seventillion degrees out for the past month, so I finally decided to try out some cold dinner recipes I've found around the internet. The first one was watermelon gazpacho.
I'll admit I was very dubious about combining watermelon with a bunch of savory veggies and red wine vinegar but this is actually so good! I'm shocked! This is going to be a staple summer dinner around here from now on, I can tell. It gives me an excellent excuse to buy a watermelon, something to actually use the watermelon for (I do routinely just eat entire watermelons by myself fyi), and another thing to use my immersion blender for. I may have also bought a mint plant solely because this calls for fresh mint and the plant wasn't much more expensive to buy than fresh mint was anyway, so now I have another plant child.
Maybe some day I'll try the original gazpacho, we'll see. I've got a cold cucumber soup on the docket for later in the week, and next week I might try out Vichyssoise (cold leek and potato soup) or an iced Borscht (Russian beet soup).
Oh and since I already had the watermelon and the immersion blender out of course I made some watermelon sorbet. Sorbet quest rides again!

Cannot enthuse enough about looking at the flyers on corkboards. As soon as you start noticing them, a whole world of unique events opens itself up to you. There are always people offering guitar and piano lessons, but I’ve also seen flyers for queer game nights, town hall protests, hiking clubs, live music festivals, student film showcases, indie film screenings, stone carving sculpture classes, Pride events, jazz in the park, genderswapped Star Trek stage plays, bike-a-thons, cyberpunk drag shows, an online asexuality archive… tons of the events being promoted are even free and they’re things I never would have known about if not for a flyer in a café or ice cream shop or park kiosk
