I really didn't expect returning to writing to be such a struggle. Ideally, I wanted OLSSM to be the priority because it hasn't gotten an update in well over a year, but all the attempts so far haven't worked out.

So maybe I need to ease myself into that one.

I finished reading through the WIP of OLSSM 58 and there was a whole section that I have no memory of writing whatsoever.

I mean, I know it's been a long, long time since this fic has gotten any attention, but I still have some memory of what I had already worked on. And smack between Kaiba Corp oddities and Hermione skipping classes for mysterious reasons is this whole bit about... the Millennium Ring?

i love the yugioh anime i love the anime only arcs (noa and the virtual world and zigfried at kaibaland america are standouts for me even doma stops to confront yami/atem's murderous desire to win) i love the card battles i frequently look at the decks the characters used in the anime because it's MEANINGFUL and gives CHARACTERIZATION it's where THE PLOT is HAPPENING the series literally ends on a final battle between yugi and his other self because it's about the dang games!!

TRUE ENLIGHTENMENT IS UNDERSTANDING THE MASTERPIECE THAT IS KC GRAND PRIX I'm not even joking lmao like come on. there is SO much to learn from an arc that is these kids being allowed to finally enjoy this game as play, rather than as a vector for terrifying god battles. Takahashi himself has spoken at length about how he uses games and play to explore everything from relationships to destiny; to frame characters overcoming challenges, working together, learning to trust each other; making sense of their own values and the world around them. I really, truly, unironically believe that an entire arc devoted to the idea of "play" is one of the most quintessentially Yu-Gi-Oh! things that could exist.

Through this lens we get a deeper dive into the mentor relationship between Sugoroku and Jounouchi, into the playfulness that exists between Yuugi and Atem when the stakes aren't world-ending, and we even get to see Seto working as a CEO for a sustained period. This is really so important to me, it's one of the only times we get to see him actively working towards his childhood ideals of "a theme park where all kids can play" rather than it being tangential to his competitive dueling goals. Idk, call it non-canon if you want, but I truly cannot imagine Takahashi bearing any ill-will towards an arc that slows down and writes such a pure love letter to fun, play, growth and challenge; all through games, which were clearly so precious to him and the heart and soul of the manga.

#all of the extra arcs brought something special to the series and I love them all ❤️#yugioh

fanfiction is a rare gem and a solid, living proof that, in a world of tiktok, influencers and content posting, not everything is about money and going viral. art can still be art just for the sake of the artists’ pure love, joy and passion for the art they create. fanfic writers write 100k words and more about the characters they love for free. just because they love these characters and the art of writing so much. art is not dead and the world is still beautiful.

Current obsession: back in my Castlevania era. Binge listening to my 22-hour Castlevania playlist, replaying Bloodstained: Ritual of the Night (which is not technically part of the series proper...but IYKYK), and gearing up for the new game coming this fall....or whenever they decide to release it for the Switch. This is the 40th anniversary of Belmont Clan hunting the night, we gotta celebrate with zigzagging Medusa Heads, Wall Chicken, and kicking Dracula back to his coffin for another 100 or so years!

Currently wearing: "PULL THE LEVER, KRONK!" tshirt, and lounge pants.

Last search: "Harry and Dumbledore's private lessons" because I gotta get back on OLSSM and I forgot to bookmark the wiki page when I was trying to write this 1000 years ago. Whoops.

This is week is finally gonna be the one where I blow the dust off the laptop and attempt to write again.

I've wanted to for a long, long time. Alas. This year has just sucked all the creative juice from my brain.

Anyway, I'm not fooling anyone. There's no way I'm gonna open OLSSM after almost 6 months and expect words to immediately come out.

Soo....I'm gonna try something else. Ask box is open for some fun little prompts to get me back into writing something, so I can get back on track to my actual projects.
