i find it fucking despicable that pride month is 2 days from over and the queer community hasn’t made ANY fucking noise about the memo on olmstead from the DOJ in the us. they want to segregate disabled people again and you guys don’t give a single fuck. the ableism of the queer community never ceases to amaze disappoint and enrage me.
they want to imprison and exterminate all of us for money and you are silent.
the nazis gassed the disabled people first (look up aktion t-4 or watch the documentary disposable humanity). your willful ignorance to our plight is not unnoticed and it will not save you from meeting the same fate. your feigned sympathy for good lefty points will not save you. fighting for us before we are gone gives you the best chance of survival.
okay so it seems like some of you don’t know what a memo from the DOJ is (maybe that’s why you’re not grasping the urgency here) but it’s basically a letter to all the states that says “if you sue to overturn this supreme court decision we will do it, here’s the arguments you should use.” it turns taking disabled people’s right to not be involuntarily warehoused into nothing more than an open-note test. and guess what? states are already suing (look up texas v. kennedy).

this is not to say you shouldn't make characters with strabismus- you should! i want to see people with my disabilities! but i think a little research can go a long way. i'd love to see it given more depth in writing than just being an indicator of intelligence (which it isn't and never has been!)

hey guys do you ever see something get popular and think "hey that's neat but I'm probably not gonna get into it" and then try it out like a year after everyone stopped caring about it and actually really like it and
I'm all for criticising queer media and I don't even like the thing however. Is the sheer level of scrutiny Rocky Horror receives not an example of transmisogyny. The musical/film is very clearly taking the piss out of the whole idea of a queer boogeyman corrupting innocent heterosexuals. It's obvious satire, yet a website that's always complaining about puritanism and bad media literacy can't seem to approach it with any degree of goodwill.
The creator plays a part, absolutely - Richard O'Brien has said shitty things about trans women. But I have to wonder if people would be so critical if they themselves were not transfem. Would an 80 year old cis guy be condemned for saying trans women can't "become natural women" to the same extent that O'Brien has been? Or would people just give him credit for the nice thing he said before and chalk the shittness up to being old as balls.
Watching Rocky Horror was a weird and uncomfortable experience for me as a teen-to-young-adult. I didnt get it. Maybe I would if I rewatched it now, maybe not. But it's a 50 year old text written by a transfeminine person, however problematic, and it is clearly an expression of the creator's own struggles with queerness and suppressed femininity. So why is it treated with the same contempt as Buffalo Bill, an uncomplicated caricature made by and for cis people? Why are the wikipedia pages for the Silence of the Lambs book, the film, the character and the author a pristine blue, when Rocky Horror and Richard O'Brien are both marked with the red of shame?
