If you are getting gender affirming surgery, especially if it’s your first major surgery, PLEASE be aware that you can become SEVERELY depressed afterwards ESPECIALLY if you have a history of depression or suicidal ideation.

Post op depression is a natural reaction to the crazy mix of hormones your body goes through after major surgery as well as the stress and anxiety of recovery. Think of it like an adrenaline crash, but dragged out longer.

For me it kicked in about 6 weeks after top surgery and the worst of it lasted until about 10 weeks post op. EVERYTHING felt IMPOSSIBLE. None of the skills I’d been practicing worked. I thought everything was going to be bad forever. I didn’t attempt, but I was in the hospital. If it wasn’t for my support system I probably would have attempted.

This is not regret, but it can feel like it. I remain happy about my results to this day (going on six years later).

This is not you failing to maintain your mental health, but it can make you feel like a failure.

Things are not hopeless, but through the haze of this depression they can feel hopeless.

It can be terrifyingly sudden or it can sneak up on you. I didn’t even realize what was going on until after the depression finally passed and my mental health went back to normal.

I am writing this post because nobody told me about this before my top surgery. I was caught completely off guard. For my subsequent surgeries being aware has made all the difference. Being able to treat those symptoms as an expected and normal part of the healing journey has made them far easier to deal with. Because even when my emotions go to dark places I *know* they will pass. I have been able to tell the bad thoughts to take a bad seat and focus on healing.

He is a trans materialist and argues for that position in the scientific fields. What is a trans materialist? Now, I don't like Google ai as much as the next anti-capitalist but it does generally get this definition correct since I garentee you most of this platform doesn't know what a trans materialist is.

He is from the global south, where trans people are often not protected by any laws, let alone are people tried for the crimes of killing, rapeing, forcing marriages with and abusing transgender people. He is not a trans medicalist and I still can't find any specific lecture where he said trans lesbians were cross dressing men with privilege because it doesn't fucking exist. He never said that in any lectures. The only claim about that view is from a fucking reddit post, these people don't do an ounce of research.

Even though I personally disagree with this view of transgenderism, I certainly don't see any direct harm in it. We should be more focused on getting trans people into better living conditions all around. What I believe happened here is a lot of white global northern transandrophobic transfems on r/4tran4 heard him say something along the lines of trans men typically have it significantly worse in the global south than trans women in the global south, which is true, and that hurt their fee-fees and shattered their victim complexes so they'd rather lie on this tmoc than address a reality that doesn't fit their fantasy. Trans men and women of color suffering transphobia, mysogny and femicide in the global south shouldn't have to change their cultural outlooks on gender and how to make trans folks lives better, especially in their own countries, to appeal to the feelings of American and, by comparison, extremely privileged WHITE transfems in America and Europe.

We should really stop taking Transandrophobes on Tumblr at their word and do research into what they say because 9 times out of 10 they are literally just making shit up. Read actual published theory by transfems if you want the transfem experience, not opinion pieces on Tumblr that could be written by literally anyone.

the nazis gassed the disabled people first (look up aktion t-4 or watch the documentary disposable humanity). your willful ignorance to our plight is not unnoticed and it will not save you from meeting the same fate. your feigned sympathy for good lefty points will not save you. fighting for us before we are gone gives you the best chance of survival.

strabismus can occur from birth, later in life due to separate visual impairments, or because of physical trauma or strokes. it can cause permanent vision issues.

when you design a character, think about if the traits you give them exist on real people! they often do!
