We talked about this in my language sociology class! (Språksociologi) A lot of it is because a lot of women are "conditioned" to speak clearer, and with more adjectives. Just generally more thought put in to the language, which generally makes it easier to understand (and a lot of dialects are seen as masculine, especially in Swedish. ESPECIALLY the fuether you get from Stockholm)

It's absolutely a documented fact that at least in the western world, the older and the more male you are, the more likely you are to use regional dialects; younger people and especially women tend to adapt to new language trends faster, speak with less local dialect, and to accommodate their conversation partner more, so this is not surprising.
