Over the next decade, zoo staff observed this over 50 times. When agitated by crowds, he’d hurl the stones at them in dominance displays. A 2009 study in Current Biology hailed this as the first clear evidence of a non-human animal planning actions in a calm state for a future agitated one, showing advanced foresight. Santino even crafted concrete discs as extra projectiles, underscoring deliberate preparation.
