Remember that there’s only been 2 openly trans men on Broadway in history. Remember that there have never been any transmasc producers, directors, writers, or lyricists with their work produced on Broadway, even though there are absolutely trans men in these fields.
Remember that one of the only “transmasc” characters ever stemming from a Broadway show was a character usually played by a cis woman, meant to mock trans men and make fun of us (Anybodys from West Side Story) and notice how a similar trope is employed in a character in the current year 2026 (Alan Frog’s portrayal in The Lost Boys) (I know Alan isn’t canonically transmasc, but that’s part of the problem. Anybodys also wasn’t canonically transmasc at first, but the character is still a mockery of trans men. They mock us and yet don’t even give us the dignity of actually being represented on stage.)
Theatre is popular with trans men. I’ve seen it firsthand in my experience as a theatre student. There is not a “lack” of trans male performers out there. We are being excluded.
Remember this as another year passes by with no trans men on Broadway. This needs to change.
