Give me more judgmental SY actually. Like I know he's the fandom's sweeteheart for whatever reason but I think I want him and SJ to be a MEAN power duo. Like if he's transmigrated during disciple days he's NOT about to coddle his peers he is infact judging the hell out of them. Like ofc he's still civil and manages to wifebeam people but he's not all sunshine and rainbows to people.
He judges SJ too but with how elusive his martial sibling is, there's not much for him to judge. They also don't get to interact much as Shen Yuan is an inner disciple and Shen Jiu hasn't reached that point yet. Plus, even if he doesn't like his martial siblings attitude it's not like he has room to judge. He didn't read PIDW because Luo Binghe had some amazing benevolent personality, there's room for some leisure (he doesn't know SJ's gonna become SQQ)
The two don't really interact much, maybe the occasional bump into one another. Their first official interaction happens in the library. Shen Yuan's retained his reading habits of his past life, often spending his time in the vast libraries of Qing Jing peak. Because he's been transmigrated into a disciple and does, in fact, value what little leisure time he has to read. This does, in fact, mean that he doesn't take too kindly to getting interrupted.
During one particular moment in the library, there's a bit of commotion near the entrance of it. It's an argument--the disciples take the chance to cause a commotion when they library's keeper has stepped away. There's a group--not large, only about 3 people--crowding against a lone disciple.
"You think you're so tough, huh? You've been talking a whole lot of crap lately."
Someone says, grabbing a fistful of another disciples robes, shoving them back into the bookshelves roughly. The disciple, Shen Jiu--or whatever their name is, Shen Yuan knows the name but can't place it to a face (He's heard about SJ but hasn't seen anyone confronting him directly)--cuts the other disciple up before they can get another word out, lashing out and striking him in the face.
Naturally, this means that the other two on standby aren't going to let things go. There's no such thing as honor when authority isn't present after all. Before anything can even spiral into anything bigger, both Shen Yuan and his temper stomp their way into the fray.
Seeing the books knocked to the floor, the messy state of all disciples present, and just hearing the volume of everyone's combined voices sets. him. off.
"What the hell are you assfucks doing in a LIBRARY?"
Shen Yuan's voice cuts through the argument somewhat easily--nobody present was expecting anyone else to be in the library since the bookkeeper wasn't here. They don't fully understand the insult, but it's enough to draw the attention away from the boy backed up into the bookshelf
"What's it to you? You here to defend this whoremonger?"
One member of the trio says, supporting his friend that's clearly still a bit dizzy from the hit to the face. Shen Yuan just stares, squinting his eyes as he looks the group up and down before snorting in recognition.
"You're certainly one to talk, huh. You're Li Bai, right? It's so funny that you're calling someone a whoremonger when you can't even live up to your name."
The disciples face flushes in anger maybe, but before they can say anything else Shen Yuan continues.
"You, the person who snuck off to Qian Cao because you caught a sexually transmitted disease after running off somewhere? You're real gutsy to show your face here."
Shen Jiu let out a snort at that, rolling his eyes at the expression on Li Bai's face.
"Birds of a feather clearly flock together it seems. I'm certain I've seen your face at the brothel. You're the deadbeat that got a worker pregnant and demanded she kill the child."
Shen Jiu scoffed towards the one he punched. He was still on guard of course, but he'd never miss a chance to taunt his foes when he was at an advantage--even if that usually meant they'd attack him more viciously when they could. He met Shen Yuan's gaze when the other turned to him with raised eyebrows.
"What?! And this piece of shit is here in the library causing a ruckus with a record like THAT?"
Li Bai was red in the face--not to be outdone by the pale faces of the other two people present. It looked like he was going to charge at Shen Yuan--hell, he probably would've if not for the librarian's timely return.
"A-Yuan, I've returned--What is happening here?"
The bookkeeper came in with a flutter of robes, holding a few booklets in their arms. They paused upon seeing the rowdy group, their expression shifting slightly as they began to question everyone.
One member of the group spoke, opening their mouth to try and twist the story. And twist they did, pushing all blame onto both Shen Jiu and this strange "Yuan" person. They claimed that the two were heard gossiping in here, and that they'd gotten violent when Li Bai and his buddies had tried to defend their honor.
Shen Yuan just let them speak, his expression growing somewhat strange with each word. At the end of the story, when Li Bai pointed at him and Shen Jiu and requested punishment, Shen Yuan let out a snort of disbelief.
"Are you done? What type of substances are you on for you to recount things like that?"
He turned to the bookkeeper, motioning towards the group of three with an incredulous expression.
He began, missing the subtle shift in the expressions of nearly everyone present. Shidi?! But being bookkeeper was an inner disciple task (It's a matter of rank. The Peak Lord takes care of the peak's MAIN library. They're in one of the smaller libraries on Qing Jing). Didn't that mean that.. Shen Yuan was an inner disciple? One ranked higher than this library's bookkeeper?
"These three came in here causing a ruckus, ganging up on this disciple like they've no honor--"
"Obviously they don't..."
Came Shen Jiu's timely add on, motioning towards the books tossed on the floor when the bookkeepers eyes fell on him.
"They've got some nerve for it too."
Shen Yuan continued, motioning towards Li Bai who was desperately trying to make his presence scarce. The bookkeeper's eyes widened, a small gasp of disbelief slipping out.
"Is that the Li Bai? The one with all of the different sex diseases? The sex pest of Qian Cao?!"
LMAO it's just so funny to me. After the library incident SJ starts noticing SY more often. Their paths don't cross a whole lot, Shen Yuan is always busy with whatever the Peak Lord has him do--not having the time nor want to mingle with the outer disciples. However Shen Jiu is made aware that he can usually find Shen Yuan in a library--usually the one that they'd first interacted in.
SY usually gossips with his friend--who is infact XF (XF will later differ to An Ding peak when his skills as a bookkeeper exceed expectations. His Shizun quickly determines that his skills will be better polished in the logistics peak rather than the scholarly peak)--about other disciples. If Shen Jiu's in the library at the time he's usually welcome to join--Shen Yuan finds his additions mighty interesting.
After XF is transferred off SJ is selected to be an inner disciple--meaning he gets to interact with SY more. Naturally they have their fair share of disagreements--but Shen Yuan is much more interested in minding his own business. He doesn't care about SJ's brother trips as much as he could--namely because PIDW was a porn novel--why should he care about whether a npc (or so he believes) is going to brothels or not? He hasn't heard any STD rumors about SJ so at least the other is being safe(?)
The two are classified as the biggest gossipers in the sect. SY has connections in the sect and SJ seems to secure them outside the sect. If you're going to pick a fight with either of the two you have to have a clean record because if Shen Yuan has the slightest bit of dirt on you he will use it and CURSE you out.
When LQG fights with SJ, SY is rather keen on chewing LQG out. When SJ eventually becomes the head disciple (SY hasn't been putting in the effort for it tbh) and becomes SQQ, SY's like "Oh fuck."
