It just gets worse when you think about how the ending was sadistically designed to mess with the audience. That became crystal clear in the script excerpt from the scene at the end: "Crowley swallows. Will this be the second kiss, a declaration of love to match Aziraphale's?" NOPE! Neil Gaiman actively encouraged an expectation that they would have a happy ending, only to viciously tear the rug out from under us. Why? Why put them in this fucked up situation in a COMEDY? Well, no one should have trusted an abuser with writing their ending.
NG really said "I'll give you a kiss, but you won't want it", for season 2, and then he gave us the South Downs ending that no one wanted (though some have accepted or embraced it, happily for them).
In a story where funny twists or loopholes like "actually you're not my father" and "isn't the great plan also the ineffable plan?" saved the day before, there would have been countless different endings that could have stayed true to the ending that Pratchett allegedly wanted, without falling into NG's grim, sadistic, darkness.

I just realised something horrific.
GABRIEL AND BEELZEBUB had a happier ending than Crowley and Aziraphale.
Gabriel.
And Beelzebub.
What the actual fuck.
Happy Pride Month.
Not me realizing that after s2 hit, I basically fell off the fanfics bandwagon (because I felt oddly... Robbed lol), and have missed on so. many. classics. that get the characters so well and respect the go universe so much more than... Erhm. Anyway. I'm having a very pleasant time reading all these classics and thank you to the gomens fandom for having so many talented writers!

I think what hurt me so much is the way Crowley acted.
No hell miracles. Was he human? If not a demon with powers then what was he?
He acted more human than demon. Broken hearted, depressed, desperate, angry. But still defending the last object that he held as important, Aziraphale’s bookshop.
Once Aziraphale shows up, he’s not drunk anymore, Dagon and Hell took care of that.
But he’s angry. So very, very angry. He’s pissed that Aziraphale is basically lying to him to help find Jesus.
He’s pissed that he left. He’s pissed that he lost his Bentley (even though it was less important than keeping the bookshop safe).
Then we have Aziraphale.
In all the years he was gone he NEVER checked on Crowley or Soho? Never looked on Earth to see how anyone was doing? Not even his beloved bookshop?
I can’t grasp this.
I can’t handle Crowley being hateful to Aziraphale. There was only a couple of times that I “saw” Crowley and his love.
I can’t handle Aziraphale being complacent after leaving Earth that he NEVER checked in again.
Crowley forgave Aziraphale because he begged.
Aziraphale never looked Crowley in the eyes and declared his love for him.
What Crowley did was the same thing as a human giving up.
Aziraphale stood by and let him, knowing it would cause them both to lose everything they loved.
Even with all the explanations, the snow globe theories, the “Time after Time” it fucking hurts.
And I think Neil Gaiman is pleased that it hurts.
So a friend and I had some thoughts...
“we kind of forgot we were supposed to watch our own show before writing the finale to it”
🤡
azi: you showed me to be brave, to make a difference, to stand up for what I believe
also azi: doesn't stand up for what he believes and just supports crowley's shittiest idea without making any difference
this script drives me insane every time i remember i just can't
This post on Twitter kinda sums up the entirety of what's wrong with Good Omens 3 - they destroyed all the magic. They destroyed that magical, whimsical, optimistic universe and replaced it with bleak reality, a world without magic. Before the finale, we could visit all these places and believe that they were there, read ancient history and believe that they'd been there, blame our computer troubles on Newt, take things as prophecies from Agnes Nutter...and now? We're left with emptiness.

Normally I’d say authors/screenwriters don’t owe anyone anything. They should tell the story they want to tell. Plot, characterizations, endings, that’s all their business!
But when they’ve repeatedly said they are making a thing for the fans, when they cram in an unbelievable amount of fan service in the form of callbacks and catchphrases, but then offer up a twist ending that denies the one thing that most fans agree they want to see? Yeah, that’s just cruel.
I did a thing I guess
My pineapple is SHIT 🤡
that raw self-examination wherein you realize that part of the reason Good Omens has so thoroughly reclaimed your soul is how desperately, how deeply, how viscerally you have needed - how for such a long, long time, you have needed - a story with a happy ending
no strings attached, no bittersweet victories, no happiness tempered by loss or uncertainty or ephemerality or complications or ‘realism’
just a story where people love each other and do, actually, get to live happily ever after
Well!
Oh shit.
(Marc Burrows wrote the biography for Terry Pratchett.)
Went and checked and wow. This is a strong claim. He claims he knows some things for sure but can't tell. This is just getting so confusing and demotivating as time passes (doesn't help that some people are shitalking this man pretty badly... I understand the vague posting is annoying, but still!).
idk call me crazy maybe it’s just me but im so sick of queer ships having to settle for “maybe in another life” endings.

One thing that really bothered me about the GO finale was that a lot of it felt like they were trying to bring up “oh my god!! They said the thing!! Remember that from before!!??!!1!1!1!?” reactions. It was like fan service without the fan service.
also it's not that I hate the gangster/getting the Bentley back storyline, it's that I think it would have been nice to see the Bentley be its sentient self and drive itself back to Crowley and that the cryptic crossword thing could have been used against God at the very end. Aziraphale would have won. okay you know what maybe I am a hater
