inspired by me spacing out on a long drive & staring at trees. this happened earlier this year, and birches ended up growing leaves before i finished the doll.
all branches & roots are made of metal wire + hot glue, which makes them poseable and also keeps them from snapping.
MY LACE AND HORNET GIJINKA DOLLS ARE FINALLY DONE!!!
HAVE BEEN WORKING ON THIS FOR SO LONG AND PLANNING THIS FOR EVEN LONGER I AM SO HAPPY TO FINALLY BE DONE LOL!!!!
notes + closeups under the cut!!
I have literally never done doll customising before lol. I am extremely new to sewing and I barely do any traditional art so im happy these came out as well as they did! They are a little janky and amateur but all things considered I think they're pretty good for a total beginner :) | am very relieved to finally be done tho
I actually had no set gijinka designs before starting these, just sorta went off whatever felt right and also took some inspiration from other designs l've seen. The ones that inspired me most were @/onionsu 's and @/minart-was-taken 's :D I think | subconsciously used some of th same elements as theirs too so oops I hope you guys don't mind
OH also the little hornet figure in one of the photos is by forrksie, while the lace one is by my sister who doesn't really have any social media
SO MUCH TRIAL AND ERROR. I think that's the main reason this took so damn long. I had to redo so many things so many times bc I don't know what im doing đ
Some of the clothes I bought instead of making just to save myself some suffering lol. the ones I did not make are lace's shirt (tho I did add the gold accent) lace's pants and shoes, and hornets pants (which I added the string to) and shoes. Kinda annoyed at how modern hornet's shoes are buuuut they were the best ones I could find
Closeups! I added sparkles to her skin :) I had to paint the skin tones on both to get the one I wanted, and on lace the joints showed through.... I tried to work it into the design and I thiink it works
Tho I did want her hair to be much tighter curled and more consistent sizes sigh. But it's kinda hard to control them so I wasn't able to manage it
I was planning on giving her a different hat that looks more like her ingame head but once I did the hair I realised it wouldn't work </3 | think it probably would've looked better if I did do that but ohwell
I have run out of image space ughhh. I guess this will be the last closeup. Hornet's face is one of my favourite aspects of this whole project I am very happy with it she looks so cutes :) I was SO indecisive on what hairstyle to give her but I think this one is pretty good! I can't include more photos but thwre is also a bun at the back
I LOVE THE ROSARY STRINGS I FOUND THE PERFECT BEADS FOR IT I gotta make a bracelet or something for myself with the leftovers
I liked the herrah mask pin some people drew her with so I gave her that:) also shakra's rings
Omg one last thing. I fucking hate resin guys. Tried to use it as a varnish on some things here and it's HORRIBLE!!!! Somehow got through to my hands THROUGH TH GLOVES and some of it possibly got in my eye tho I'm not sure. rinsed them 1000 times tho nonetheless it they were dry as fuck for days after. I hate resin
these faux porcelain & filigree animals might become a series because they are just so fun to make.
using paper napkins for decoupage has also made me a superfan of william morris. his designs have so many elements going on i could make five completely different dolls from a single one. the patterns on this bunny are from the strawberry thief, pictured below.

Oh for Black creators this is kendoesdolls! https://www.instagram.com/kendoesdolls?igsh=OWNxcXVvc3AzbXUx
he talks a lot about how much of doll's fashion wouldn't exist without Black culture and has pretty insightful reviews for any fellow doll enthusiasts!
Prompt 2, to help resist buying new things from big corps! Especially as they try to tempt us with black friday sales.
Thirteen doll-related questions for your answering enjoyment! I'll put my answers after the cut. (Thirteen Qs, because Monster High is one of my favorite franchises.)
1. What's your best doll memory from this year?
2. Which doll is the most spoiled? (gets the most photos, wears the best outfits, has the most lore...)
3. Do you have any dolls from childhood still? Who are they?
4. What's the strangest place you've ever taken a doll photo?
5. Imagine you get to design your perfect doll: tell us about them!
6. Which platform do you most like to use to share and meet other collectors?
7. What's your storage situation like? How about display? Do you want to change either?
8. Do you have stories/lore for your dolls or are they just pretty to look at?
9. Anyone in your crew in a relationship?
10. Have you had any fun doll interactions "in the wild"?
11. Would you ever go to a meet-up or convention? What would you want that to include?
12. What's a customizing skill you want to get better at in 2026?
13. Tell us something about yourself, not related to dolls!
1. What's your best memory from this year in hobbyland?
So many! My mom gave me Addy's school outfit as well as Claudie. I had a great time learning how to use a lightbox setup to photograph the glass coffin crew. It was fun and rewarding to customize a doll for my SIL; I don't have any local meetups or irl dolly friends, so the fact that she was excited to get a doll was really meaningful to me. I also had a thoroughly delightful time thinking up punny names for the LOLer derby team. And it was so special that R. A. Consell asked me to do a Cover Model for his book!
2. Which doll is the most spoiled? (gets the most photos, wears the best outfits, has the most lore...)
Lala and Frankie get the most attention :) I have 3 Frankies and 2 Lalas, and they definitely have the most photos, the most lore, and the most restyles.
3. Do you have any dolls from childhood still? Who are they?
Yep! AG Felicity and Abigale, GOML Isabel, and my baby doll Anna. I also still have my (now contraband) Sky Dancers.
4. What's the strangest place you've ever taken a doll photo?
Maybe the gumball machines at the semi-abandoned mall? Or the middle of the road. Or a graveyard.
5. Imagine you get to design your perfect doll: tell us about them!
Look, I know I wrote these prompts but I really don't have an answer for this one atm. She would definitely have long, rooted hair in a nice fiber; double jointed knees and neck tilt; pretty, interchangeable hands that are actually in scale with the doll; and maybe roller skates. But my ability to do visual imagery is quite bad so I'm not really sure beyond that.
6. Which platform do you most like to use to share and meet other dolly people?
Instagram was my favorite, but I quit it for a variety of reasons. Still miss it but it's for the best that I'm off that platform. I use tumblr, discord, and memoa now. Memoa is great for cataloging my collection, but doesn't lead to many interactions. Discord is alright, though I find it hard to keep up with conversations and posts. I like tumblr for blogging, and hope to grow a lil community here.
7. What's your storage situation like? How about display? Do you want to change either?
The pictures below are my main storage and display spaces, located in my bedroom. As you can see in the first pic, part of the trofast is my nightstand ha. Dolls are stored in the pink bins, with clothes in the rainbow cart, and accessories and shoes in the cases under Lala and Frankie. I display dolls on those top two shelves, rearranged pretty regularly as the mood strikes me.
The second pic is my "studio," located at the end of my bed. I actually just switched out the end table that was there, for a sideboard from my stepdad. I take most of my pictures here, and in the drawers are lights, backdrops, and props. My 18" dolls are standing underneath.
Please ignore my laundry basket
My bedroom has more dolls and craft supplies stashed in various places: half my dresser drawers are project dolls, craft supplies, and restyling tools. One of the drawers under my bed has random doll bits and bobs in it. I have Felicity's furniture in my closet.
I also have a small display of Freak du Chic in the living room, and another shelf in a bookcase in the guest room with both the reel drama ghouls and my Girls of Many Lands.
8. Do you have stories/lore for your dolls or are they just pretty to look at?
Some of them have a little bit of lore -- Lala is my chronic illness buddy, and Dru is a socially anxious vampire. But a lot of my collection is an artistic medium; some people use paints to express themselves, some people sculpt or crochet or draw. I use dolls.
9. Anyone in your crew in a relationship?
G3 Frankie & Gooliope, Venus and Abbey, Drusilla and Bubbles!
10. Have you had any fun doll interactions "in the wild"?
No, not really. I did meet someone in-person from an online group for a trade, and that was fun! I traded some clothes and stuff for their Skulltimate Secrets Abbey.
11. Would you ever go to a meet-up or convention? What would you want that to include?
I've haven't been to either yet, but I plan to go to some in-person dolly things in 2026. I'd love to have some props/scenes around for people to take doll photos with, and of course yummy snacks.
12. What's a customizing skill you want to get better at in 2026?
I want to get better and more confident at painting.
13. Tell us something about yourself, not related to dolls!
The Chrissa revolution of 2025! My friend group all thought "Chrissa Stands Strong" was iconic when we watched it as my movie club pick, and since then, I watched it a couple more times with my gf. I have completed my Chrissa trio collection, bringing Chrissa back and finding a perfect Gwen. My gf and I will be doing a read-aloud of the books when she gets here for the break, and we'll be taking Gwissa to the AG place for Holiday Tea!
I'm not sure I have one that's the MOST spoiled, but Raquel was the first one I designed a collection and made a 6-book arc for, and I am now working on piecing together that collection from the secondary market.
Only one, my Lucy (JLY 28). She's been with me since 2006 and will be my constant companion.
Under a giant rocket at the Space and Rocket Center!
That's basically Raquel! I wish she were a real AG character, but maybe she's better in my hands. Other than that, it would be fun to have a true mini-me. Lila is closest, but she's not quite it.
Tumblr and Discord!
Not great. I have a shoe rack that's like a quadruple bunk bed, and a couple of AG boxes under my bed. I display them on top of some storage cubicles. Once I'm somewhere I know I'll be living for a while, I'll be getting shelves where I can store and display them at the same time.
They all have lore, although some more developed than others (the Wellies least of all, but they do have it!)
Luci and Valu (my Lea) were my first pairing - STEM girlies! Next came Ivy and Sonali, marching band gfs. Finally, there's Chrissa and Gwen, who are in a pre/early relationship phase.
My 24th birthday visit to AG was super fun!
I would love to! It would be fun if we did some of the crafts from the pastimes/magazines.
I'd like to finally try recurling my Kanani's dead hair! I've had her for several years now and still have never tried.
1. What's your best doll memory from this year? Finally finding my mini-me and dressing her like I dressed as a kid.
2. Which doll is the most spoiled? (gets the most photos, wears the best outfits, has the most lore...) For the last 6ish months it's been a three-way tie: my mini-me, Marta (lightly customized 24), and Shamsa (TM62).
3. Do you have any dolls from childhood still? Who are they? Yes, but not AG. They are a couple of baby dolls I got when I was about 8.
4. What's the strangest place you've ever taken a doll photo? The middle of a horse pasture. Keeping my doll from being stepped on by curious horses was challenging.
5. Imagine you get to design your perfect doll: tell us about them! 18 inches with articulated elbows and knees, maybe wrists and ankles, medium-toned skin, blue eyes, dark curly hair, and blue eyes with a Jess mold (to look like the neolithic peoples from the middle and near east).
6. Which platform do you most like to use to share and meet other collectors? Tumblr
7. What's your storage situation like? How about display? Do you want to change either? Storage totes in the closet for most things, with some vacuum sealed bags for the clothes. I'd like to have less to store, but I really like the things I have. Kit's furniture is SO cute, but I don't have space to display it, so it sits on the closet shelf.
I have a shelf on the wall and a space on my desk for display, but I don't like clutter, so I only have one or two dolls out at a time. If I had a totally spare room, I'd set up a giant dollhouse and display more there.
8. Do you have stories/lore for your dolls or are they just pretty to look at? Stories and lore galore. That's half the fun for me.
9. Anyone in your crew in a relationship? Nope. Some are friends, some are sisters. All my girls are about 10, and still into other things than relationships.
10. Have you had any fun doll interactions "in the wild"? My kid found a couple of dolls at a thrift store and was immediately like "Look! Do you want these?!"
11. Would you ever go to a meet-up or convention? What would you want that to include? Probably not. I'm perfectly happy sharing in online spaces.
12. What's a customizing skill you want to get better at in 2026? I still struggle to get lips and teeth to look just right if I have to paint them. It's something I've been working on since 2020.
13. Tell us something about yourself, not related to dolls! I recently got back into ballet, so I have been spending most of my energy on that. This is the first year I'm performing in the Nutcracker. I'm a toy soldier, a lollipop and a flower.
1. What's your best doll memory from this year?
I went to a local meetup in the spring, it was delightful to see everyone's dolls!
2. Which doll is the most spoiled? (gets the most photos, wears the best outfits, has the most lore...)
Ara's probably got the most lore, but right now, the DearSDs are getting the most spoiled in terms of time taken with them and outfits made for them. The AGs also have a good amount of clothes, but they're just lucky in that there's only two of them to share between.
3. Do you have any dolls from childhood still? Who are they?
Unfortunately not. I did have a Molly doll growing up though and bought a different one at an estate sale a couple years back, so I kind of have her back.
4. What's the strangest place you've ever taken a doll photo?
Ah, nowhere particularly odd. I've got some photos from my walk home from work, and some in my old office.
5. Imagine you get to design your perfect doll: tell us about them!
Double joints for sure. I'd love a chunkier, more youthful body. Size, not sure, but I am still on my DearSD and smaller 1/3 streak. Either a dark, cool-toned tan or a pastel fantasy color, maybe lavender. Slight hint of a smile, especially if the mouth is a bit open.
Alternatively, sleek and futuristic robot/cyborg doll. Plenty of mechanical details and/or lines cut into the sculpt to dictate where chassis plates are. More mechanical parts are electroplated.
6. Which platform do you most like to use to share and meet other collectors?
I enjoy forums like DoA and wish their popularity picked up a bit more. I miss the forum era of the 00s-early 10s. Discord's good, too, but I'm not in any dolly servers these days, last one I was in, er, imploded.
Instagram's fine for updates from doll artists or some sales, but I don't like it for trying to form a community.
7. What's your storage situation like? How about display? Do you want to change either?
The BJDs have a display cabinet in my living room, and the AGs sit on top of a cabinet/nightstand in my bedroom. Storage is either inside the AGs' cabinet, in the dolls' boxes stored under my bed, or in a handful of boxes around/under the BJDs' display cabinet.
I dream of having a room I could dedicate to craft things, and a whole closet I could transform into a giant dollhouse. Alas, I've just got a studio apartment right now.
8. Do you have stories/lore for your dolls or are they just pretty to look at?
Depends on which group they are.
The AG dolls are sewing models for the most part, but I do have a bench and some props for them.
The 1/4 scale BJDs have a whole lore connection thing that's some sci-fantasy romp, with about half of them related through an extensive royal family situation all centered around Ara. (Suha's his sister, Fiadh's a foster sister, Tian Ni and Nawra are his cousins, Nova's his bestie, Clover is Nawra's girlfriend.) Thalassus is an immortal space pirate in that universe currently.
The DearSDs are there to be cute. They don't have a whole lore setup, but they do have some general personality/ages.
The 1/3s do have some lore, but they're not tied to each other. Nikki's got the classic escaped lab experiment learning to be a real girl deal, Chandra's a wandering punk rock biker gal.
9. Anyone in your crew in a relationship?
Nawra and Clover! I tried having a girlfriend for Suha but that doll didn't work out, so she's a single pringle once more.
10. Have you had any fun doll interactions "in the wild"?
Nah, not from random folks. I'm not brave enough to bring my dolls to public spaces yet!
11. Would you ever go to a meet-up or convention? What would you want that to include?
I have gone to a couple meetups and am hoping to go to a convention in the next year or two! I'm happy to hang out, look at everyone's dolls, chat about them, and the meetups have had photography spots with fun props.
12. What's a customizing skill you want to get better at in 2026?
Mostly improving my sewing, but if I redo any faceups, I want to get better at eyebrows. A lot of my dolls have dark eyebrows and I think the pastel base layer needs to be lighter so the pencil "hairs" are actually visible.
13. Tell us something about yourself, not related to dolls!
I've been really into dark teal lately.

[ID: Nawra in the start of a vaguely historic, Ren Faire-y outfit. She's wearing a blue brocade dress with just barely off-the-shoulder sleeves and a skirt that's past the knees. On top of it is a wide cream lace apron/overskirt tied with a dark brown embroidery thread. End ID.]
It's time for the working with scraps round on DoA, and I pulled out this fat quarter I've been sitting on for a while to make a dress for Megu! I also made an underskirt with some leftover plain white cotton.
[ID: Megu the doll standing in a blue cabinet. She's wearing a dress made of a white cotton printed with soft pastel forest animals. The bodice is basic in shape and features a fox on the center of it, along with an eyelet lace collar. The sleeves are puffy and have a wide cuff that also ends in eyelet lace. The skirt is gathered and goes down past her knees; under it, there is more eyelet lace visible from the underskirt. End ID.]
Now that all the Christmas sewing is done, I'm finally free to work on doll clothes! I decided to knock out a bit of the fancy sparkly fabric I've been holding onto and make a very New Years Eve-y dress for Chandra.
It has a black knit sheath (shhh I didn't sew it to the sparkly fabric inside out it's fine) and I draped and pinned the weird-shaped chunk of sparkle fabric I had on top until it looked reasonable. I did use the whole chunk of sparkle fabric in one go, so that's one less piece in the stash.
As a happy accident, I cut a version of the sheath without enough seam allowance so it doesn't fit Chandra, but it should be a nice floor-length gown for the slim MSD gang once I sew it up.
Despite the fanciness, the whole project was down n' dirty. I just wrapped the knit around Chandra and marked it for the sheath, draped haphazardly, and nothing is hemmed. But eh, if you're at a late night party, who's looking at your dress hems!
[ID: Three pictures of Chandra the Merry Doll Round Fang wearing a strapless dress with a black and gold woven fabric dotted with gold sequins. The fabric is draped so it gathers at a couple points on the waist and it loops up to snap a pleated section to the right breast, forming a sort of cape.
The first photo has Chandra standing with her weight on one leg and the cape on her shoulder. You can see part of the black slip at the bottom of the hem.
The second has Chandra holding an arm out - the cape has slipped down her arm for an off-the-shoulder look.
The last shows Chandra's back and the way the hem of the skirt becomes the cape.
I was going back and forth on what her name would be. I was thinking something Korean, but nothing I saw quite clicked. I tried some more "object" type names like Sunny, but they didn't feel right, either.
So I set the matter aside and got to work on her face while I could trust I had good sealing weather. She still doesn't have eyelashes, but I had to order those. All the ones I have would either be the wrong color and/or ridiculously long. Which is kinda cute for, say, Nawra, but would not look at all proportionate here. (And yes speaking of eyes, I know they're posed a bit wonky in this pic. The right eye keeps drifting no matter what I do.)
I got her face done, and when I got her head back on her body and put the wig on, a name popped into my head. Chandra, and it just stuck, like she decided it herself.
Chandra she is, then!
[ID: A picture of Chandra, a Merry Doll Round Fang in chocolate milk resin. She is standing against the blue doll cabinet, looking over her shoulder at the camera. She has a strand of black hair in one hand, and the rest falls loose down to her mid-back.
Her face is painted in a more makeup-heavy style. She has berry tinted lips with a gloss finish, and smokey eyes that start as a peacock blue in the inner corners of her eyes, then briefly fade into a sapphire blue before turning to smokey black. Her eyes also have eyeliner painted on. Her brows are black and slightly arched. End ID.]
