creatures creatures!

most of my dolls have no damage at all. there are a few dark-colored matte filaments from specific brands that are oddly soft and can get minor scratches, but nothing noteworthy or distracting to my eye. certainly nowhere near the kind of scratching that some resins that aren't made to resist wear get.

another shin megami tensei doll! rangda is one of my favorite demons, and was a lot of fun to make. didn't follow the reference 100% because i wanted to use some trinkets & beads on the skirt instead of sculpting everything from scratch.

for the head & back frills i printed a one-layer sheet out of the same filament, cut the shapes out of that, and bent it into shape using a heat gun and hot glue.

all branches & roots are made of metal wire + hot glue, which makes them poseable and also keeps them from snapping.

i wanted to play with natural materials -> made this little skeleton tree out of pine sticks & bark, acorns, and cypress cones. the head is a misprint of an older sculpt of mine that i happened to have & happened to be a good size.

in a continuing battle to clean my desk of old projects, i finished this little troll with an abundance of teeth.

this is also a remix of my first 3d sculpt. i didn't really feel the need to remake her before, but when i thought about what the adult design for the little buds would look like, i realized it was very close to that sculpt -> instead of starting from scratch, i edited it to be more in line with my current aesthetics & skill level. this also has the added benefit of making the old doll the awkward teen phase of this creature.

i'll hopefully be printing a green apple version soon, because there are some styling & faceup choices i want to try with this sculpt. also i couldn't decide what to do with her mouth, so version 1.0 is mouthless, but i want to give the next one a cute grin.

please note the bottoms of the feet have paw pads.

i sort of do, whenever i take custom commissions. in several cases the customer has come to me with vibes and smaller visual ideas instead of a concrete reference, and i have both designed and made the doll. i enjoy working that way & the comms have gone well, but i don't exactly advertise it. this is because i don't sketch, or make any kind of plans really, and the design takes shape as i work. of course i communicate the direction i'm going the best i can & send wips, but if the design ended up not being what the client wanted, major changes would be difficult.

most of the paints i used on this doll glow in the dark, which also makes her look ultra saturated in regular light. she turned out mega cute & i love her.

peeling a robot bnuy prototype.

back when i made the first doll i was obsessed with steampunk and airships, and distinctly remember this character was an airship mechanic. the new boy got some tools for his job and some engine grease on his face, but lost the anime hair somewhere along the way. i might still give him a little more hair, but i do like the silhouette he has with the buzz cut.

doing my part to propagate the universal finnish internet experience of following an artist for two years without really thinking about where they might be from, and then seeing an offhanded comment that reveals them as a fellow countryman.

another teapot animal head variant, because this sculpt is comforting to revisit. i find the speculative biological implications of the tea cup babies disturbing, but have willed them into existence regardless.
