US Americans are always the world's most poorest little meow meows who can't afford to do anything until it's time to be dismissive of the suffering of folks in less wealthy countries dealing with the effects of the climate crisis (which btw the USA with their hyperconsumerism contributes to the most of any country & does nothing to mitigate), then it's suddenly "why don't you just buy & run an air conditioner 24/7? are you poor?"

Also while you might be used to thinking of everything in terms of hyperindividualist solutions, many cultures do in fact approach this with a collectivist mindset. They're not stupid, they know your approach is an option, they just might think it's a shitty way to to about it to only ensure you're comfortable but at the expense of both the environment & the electric grid with the increased energy consumption & other people in their environment (because the hot air from a/c has to go somewhere and in a densely populated area, it will blow out into the street & into your neighbors' open windows).
