I feel Nigel is more for the cool tones and Alex for the warm ones (like green yellow or browns)

Speaking about cold idk where I read about this but Nigel had cold asf hands and would press them against the back of Alex's neck to startle him?

At this point I’m just obsessed. Hope this can feed your obsession… ( I admit I’m not particularly fond of it, but idk maybe it will grow in me someday?)

i have seen a recent uprise in demand for a like minds community groupchat of sorts, so i've just launched a server for those who'd like to join (& be respectful)

“Why was Mr. Hori the one the children decided to blame?”

Many say that it doesn’t really make sense, and that for it to be really reasonable Mr. Hori would have to do something truly mean to the children. But I don’t really think that.

So here is my perspective about why Mr. Hori being the victim of the lie makes totally sense.

1 — The first time Minato asks something weird, he mentions Mr. Hori

In the beginning of the movie, when we are watching in Saori’s perspective, we are presented to her son, Minato, who’s first sentence in the movie is;

‘If a human gets transplanted with a pig’s brain, is it human or a pig?’

Saori immediately finds the question weird, and when she asks ‘who told you that’

Minato’s answer is ‘Mr. Hori.’

We are in the very beginning, so is not something that rings alarm bells inside Saori’s head, but it is something that I believe she unconsciously kept in mind because of its strangeness.

It’s not significant yet, but it will come back eventually with everything that comes later. It’s the first mention of something strange that Minato relates to Mr. Hori in front of his mother.

2 — When Minato cuts his hair

We all discover later in the movie we see the real reason why Minato cuts his hair, but in Saori’s perspective, that is something that wouldn’t come from Minato himself if not for intimidation and teasing.

Upon her confusion, her first instinct is to ask if Minato was being teased by a classmate.

But instead of just lying and saying that it was because he didn’t like it or because he was really teased he says;

“Against school rules”

Now, even though it could be a true, given that school institutions in Japan are very strict about dress codes and hairstyles, who are the ones responsible for imposing those rules?

Teachers.

And who is Minato’s Teacher?

Mr. Hori.

It might be very subtle, but now Saori’s brain is starting to make connections, even if once again I believe they could be very unconscious from her.

We are not far in the movie, but now Saori is in walking towards the belief that something is wrong at school between Minato with someone, when we know later that in reality, all of those things are related to Yori.

(This has nothing to do with this analysis, but I have two reasons for why Minato cuts his hair after Yori touches it;

1- to maybe ‘clean’ himself to not catch Yori’s disease

2- so Yori will not be temped to touch him again

that’s how I see it!)

3 — The water bottle filled with mud

This part is short but very interesting, because once again, Minato relates something that Saori’s finds strange to school, saying is a “for science”.

Here he doesn’t mention school directly, but given that school is the place where he spends most of his time in, is not crazy to say that Saori is stating to think that there is really something wrong going on.

4 — Minato’s ear injury

We later found out in the movie that Minato’s ear injury was provoked by his and Yori’s fight, but in Saori’s POV, Minato just appeared with the injury at the end of the day.

Normally, such accident/fight should be reported by the homeroom teacher, in this case Mr. Hori, but as we saw, he chose to spare the trouble and give Yori and Minato a chance to reconcile instead of making noise about it.

So once again, Saori is completely in the dark about what is really happening with Minato, but she knows that whatever the problem is, it’s happening inside school ground.

We all know that those omissions and lies from Minato’s part were to protect Yori’s existence from his mother’s knowledge.

The main reason for why I think Minato lied about everything and his utter silence regarding everything that had to do with Yori is because canonically, for those around him, Yori is an “odd one”.

He has a “disease”.

He is a “monster/alien”.

So I believe that Minato was scared that his mother would see what everyone else sees;

Yori as a monster.

Because if she sees Yori just like everyone else does, what will she think about the both of them hanging out together and being friends?

Will she try to separate them and make sure Minato never speaks to Yori again?

Will she look at Yori and realise that him and Minato are not as different as she would like?

Would she realise Minato is a “monster” too?

When I try to put myself in Minato’s place, hiding a huge secret from my mother that could maybe end this relationship where I finally feel like I can just be me, I think that would be my thought process too, and I would surely prefer to hide it if it meant keeping it safe from whatever could end it.

And I believe Minato’s thought process isn’t that far off from mine.

Now let’s go over everything Minato told (so, lied) to his mother about Mr. Hori;

As I said earlier, all those actions Minato told his mother were Mr. Hori’s fault involve Yori. But why Mr. Hori?

First of all, I would like to remind everyone that Saori only confronted Minato directly and forced him to admit to something because she was worried and tired from all the secrets, and that’s when Minato yells the infamous phrase;

Do you remember where Minato has already said it before?

And do you remember who he told his mother that said this to him?

Despite the obvious connection, I will put here the three options Minato could have chosen from;

1- He blames Mr. Hori, feeding into his mother’s already growing belief that what was really happening was a severe case of school bullying, but instead of a classmate, he blames the teacher who he already associated with something as brutal as a human’s brain being replaced with a pig’s.

2- Minato blames one of his classmates, again confirming his mother’s already growing belief that what was really happening was a severe case of school bullying, but this time other kids are involved, and that lie could result in other parents becoming involved in the problem and in result debunking everything which could reveal his secret.

3— Minato tells the truth, and reveals that in reality there is no such thing as bullying but instead his strange but at the same time beautiful relationship with Yori (which we have already told earlier that is a no-go).

In his place, which one would you choose?

Telling the truth is out of question, and not even a real option because we can see he never even considered it. Telling is bullying by a classmate could be easily debunked. What other lie than telling it was Mr. Hori is more perfect?

A child’s word about being aggressed against an adult’s word is always going to be more believable.

So yeah.

if we pay the right amount of attention, we can actually see it being built from the very first scene. Mr. Hori is the perfect blame holder.

I hope I could get someone to look at it the way I did. Again, this is >my< personal interpretation!!

Because after all, we know that Alex is not the victim at all in the situation, so who says he wouldn’t have done it if given the chance? He let Nigel get away with everything he did, that should be enough proof of how much he doesn’t give a single damn about morals. He thrived on danger.

The Four M's of Alex Forbes

Now, before someone comes to murder me in my sleep, I would like to make y’all pause for a moment and just— just walk with me.

Firstly, why is it that our first instinct is to associate Alex with red?

A lot of reasons actually. His obvious lack of control when it comes to his emotions, making his anger issues pop out. His anger and violence is red. Danger is red.

(And if I really wanna be controversial and piss someone off, I would say that red should be Nigel’s color. He’s the one dissecting, getting broken (& bloody) noses, killing innocent girls and pushing his own parents to their deaths to fulfil a religious myth, and later killing himself without a second thought.

Lots of blood, lot’s of calm brutality, after all, MURDER is RED.

Well, at least those things scream “pretty red” to me…)

Okay now back to the point I was trying to make; then what is Alex Forbes’ color?

I will need y’all to brace yourselves for this one;

Alex Forbes’ color is GREEN.

HEAR ME OUT, HEAR ME OUT.

Alex’s eyes are a deep rich green that make his natural beauty and innocent appearance pop. And that specific feature that Eddie Redmayne has is just so— perfect.

Because those eyes, that get teary and show so much emotions that Alex does not dare to speak are actually what disguises his game.

Alex and the color green go hand in hand, because green is normalcy, green is naivety.

Green is what Alex is surrounded by.

If we just look at the scenes, if we pay A LITTLE ATTENTION, we can see that there’s green literally EVERYWHERE.

And why that’s brilliant, you ask?

Because his prominent green actually HIDES the red inside.

The green is the innocence that he displays when he is being questioned in the police station, is the wild spirit Alex doesn’t hesitate to let out in the middle of the night, is the deep connection he has to his instincts.

The green is what Alex uses (very intelligently) to hide the red he knows is buried under his skin.

More specifically, JACK.

Jack is red. Not Alex.

AND the moment those colors (red and green) start to mix with one another, is the moment when Nigel comes and takes over Alex’s thoughts.

Nigel wants to make the red in Alex’s soul prominent, because if he let’s it out, if he makes Alex replace the green for the red (if he becomes his Jack over Alex) they will match, not only in colors but in ideas.
