This promising new series is a "reimagining" of Irwin Allen's sci-fi show that ran from 1965-68. Set 30 years in the future, It follows the Robinson family as they leave Earth for a new life on a better world. The cast includes Toby Stephens, Molly Parker, Taylor Russell, Mina Sundwall, Max Jenkins, Parker Posey (as Dr. Smith!) and Ignacio Serricchio. Season one now streaming on Netflix.

This new "live" tv adaptation of the rock opera comes from executive producers Andrew Lloyd Webber, Tim Rice, Marc Platt, Craig Zadan and Neil Meron. Webber and Rice's "Superstar" was originally conceived as a concept album and eventually made it to the stage in 1971 (Norman Jewison's film version was released in 1973). The cast for this adaptation includes John Legend, Sara Bareilles, Alice Cooper, Brandon Victor Dixon, Jason Tam and Norm Lewis. 8 p.m. Sunday, April 1, on NBC.

It's season two for this darkly comic series that follows the Baudelaire orphans - Violet, Klaus and Sunny - and their encounters with Count Olaf. The series is based on the best selling books by Lemony Snicket (aka Daniel Handler). The cast includes Neil Patrick Harris, Malina Weissman, Louis Hynes, Presley Smith, Patrick Warburton and K. Todd Freeman and is executive produced by Barry Sonnenfeld and Daniel Handler. Season two streams on Netflix beginning Friday, March 30. 

Like it or not, the Conner family is back. in yet another reboot of a popular series from the past (the original series ran from 1988-1997). All of the original cast are here, including Roseanne Barr, John Goodman, Laurie Metcalf, Sara Gilbert, Lecy Goranson and Michael Fishman. Even Sarah Chalke, who took over the role of Becky late in the series will return. The most promising element is the fact that the writers' room featured comedians Whitney Cummings and Wanda Sykes. Season premiere, 8 p.m. Tuesday, March 27, on ABC.

Host Derek Waters is back with this great comedic history lesson. Inebriated guest narrators try to tell stories about historical figures and events while actors re-enact the stories. Tonight's episode looks at occultist and rocket scientist Jack Parsons; W.C. Minor, the man who helped write the Oxford English Dictionary, and Rasputin, adviser to Tsar Nicholas II of Russia. Taran Killam, Jerry O'Connell and Bob Odenkirk are featured. 10 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 30 on Comedy Central.

Set in 1896 New York City, this historical drama follows the hunt for a serial killer responsible for the murders of boy prostitutes. It's based on the book by Caleb Carr, and the cast includes Daniel Bruhl, Luke Evans, Dakota Fanning and Brian Geraghty. Series premiere, 9 p.m. Monday, Jan. 22, on TNT.

You can expect more of the same when you tune in for the eighth and final season of this delightful comedy about the residents of a fictional Northwest town that could very well be Portland (or our own Emerald City). Series creators Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein and Jonathan Krisel excel at poking fun at human quirkiness, and making us laugh at ourselves. The premiere involves the bookstore owners visiting a childhood home, podcasters in a police station and  a couple buying a van. 7 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 18, on IFC.

For the second season of his acclaimed series, Ryan Murphy shines his light on the 1997 murder of fashion designer Gianni Versace in Miami Beach, Fla. Murphy directed the premiere episode and the cast includes Darren Criss, Edgar Ramirez, Penelope Cruz and Ricky Martin. Season premiere, 10 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 17, on FX.

Oh, Chris Carter. What has your once thrilling and creepy sci-fi series become? Yes, I'm delighted that David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson are back for a second new season as FBi agents Fox Mulder and Dana Scully, shining their flashlights into the dark corners that regular people wouldn't dare explore. But, there was so much Drama in the season 11 premiere (car chases, brandishing of guns and endless talk of "The Conspiracy") that it made me long for the simple chills of such episodes as "Eve," "Tooms," "Host" or "Home" (come on, you know The Peacock Family are out there...somewhere). Don't get me wrong, I'll keep watching, but please let's get back on track. The cast also includes Mitch Pileggi, William B. Davis, Annabeth Gish, Robbie Amell, Lauren Ambrose, Barbara Hershey and Haley Joel Osment (?!) are also in the cast. 8 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 10, on Fox.

Certainly by now you've heard the story. After an eight season run that ended in 2006, it seemed that we'd heard the last of this funny foursome. Then last year Debra Messing, Eric McCormack, Sean Hayes and Megan Mullally gathered to shoot an election-themed video and before you could say "Sure, honey!," the stars aligned and we have the return of this groundbreaking comedy. With original writers Max Mutchnick and David Kohan, and director James Burrows back in the saddle as well, this could be a lot of fun. As Mullally's character Karen Walker once said, "Grab a bottle, hunker down and pray for daylight."   9 p.m. Thursday, Sept. 28, on NBC.

This is it. It's the week that the networks bring out all the returning favorites, and sprinkle in their new offerings. This new military drama follows the lives of an elite unit of Navy SEALs. The cast features David Boreanaz ("Bones," "Angel"), Max Thierot ("Bates Motel"), Neil Brown Jr., AJ Buckley, Toni Trucks and Jessica Paré ("Mad Men"). Series premiere, 9 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, on CBS.

This Emmy-winning comedy drama follows the not-at-all-typical Pfefferman family as they cope with each other and the unexpected. This season Maura (Jeffrey Tambor) heads to Israel and makes a discovery. The rest of the family is portrayed by an excellent cast includes Judith Light, Gaby Hoffmann, Amy Landecker and Jay Duplass. Season four now streaming on Amazon Prime

In season two of this delightfully quirky comedy, many of the residents of this particular corner of the afterlife have had their memories erased. Eleanor Shellstrop (Kristen Bell), tries to figure things out by using a clue. Bell is delightful, as is the always reliable Ted Danson, as the architect of "The Good Place." Season premiere, 10:01 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 20, on NBC.

The networks’ new fall season descends upon your TV screen in a big way next week, but there are a couple of popular series that return with new episodes this week. The 25th edition of this dance competition features a “who’s that?” list of “stars." To prove my point, see how many of this season’s “stars’ ” names you recognize without the aid of a search engine. They are: Barbara Corcoran, Debbie Gibson, Derek Fisher, Drew Scott, Frankie Muniz, Jordan Fisher (who?), Lindsey Stirling, Nick Lachey, Nikki Bella, Sasha Pieterse, Terrell Owens, Vanessa Lachey, Victoria Arlen. I count 6. Season premiere, 8 p.m. Monday, Sept. 18, on ABC.

Emmy-nominated Pamela Adlon stars in this wonderfully weird comedy as a single working actor and mother of three trying to cope with modern life in Los Angeles. Adlon co-created the show with Louis C.K.  Season two premiere, 10 p..m. Thursday, Sept. 14 on FX.

Bolt your windows. Lock your doors. Once again, Ryan Murphy gets a jump on the network fall tv season with a new edition of his baroque horror anthology. The premiere episode is entitled "Election Night." Oh dear. I can't wait to see what Murphy and company have in store for us. Returning cast members include Sarah Paulson, Evan Peters, Cheyenne Jackson and Adina Porter. Season premiere, 10 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 5, on FX.
