like, truly, how many “raised outside of their species” stories out there really, truly address the consequences of what such an upbringing would teach you about your body? they may touch on it, play with the idea a bit - but how many get into the nitty gritty of what that kind of profound isolation would do to you? a stranger to those who share your body, and an anomaly (or worse) to those who share your culture. rtts attracts a lot of people of marginalized groups because talita’s story doesn’t shy away from the hard and unpleasant aspects of her life. it shines a bright and somewhat unforgiving light on what it’s like to live in a society that isn’t meant for you, that often punishes you just for existing, and a body that is different from everyone you know. there are bright spots and ultimately it’s a story of hope (which is a topic that deserves its own post) but it’s very, very important to the central themes of rtts that talita’s trauma is examined and torn apart so that the reader can’t ignore it, or its importance to her story and character arc. truly she is one of the most well thought out and delightfully complex and deeply compelling characters i’ve experienced in a piece of media in a long time

re: that last post - one time at work someone asked us if dental dams could be run through insurance (they cannot.) and none of my coworkers even knew what they’re for and that’s the day i realized too late that i revealed to my coworkers that i was the only one who did know. one of those coworkers, by the way, i am quite attracted to. i managed to play it cool but god that was a weird day

i’m always hesitant to get into tv shows before they end because i’ve been burned before. how often do they take a dip in quality/end poorly. the answer is very often. i am not wasting the investment of my time.
