I was wondering if Bradley would make a memorial post.
Sharing this for any one of you who might not be on instagram
I’ve been obsessed with this tiktok for days now
God, please, PLEASE unmute this one. :')
"Hello sir." Pets the toad (rotund fellow). While waving: "Have a good day."
Screen pans away, sound of a porch door creaking.
"Actually, wait a minute you missed a bug. But I got you home boy." Picks up what appears to be a moth from a white side table, turns and tosses it to toad. Toad sees it wiggling on ground, eats it.
Person: vocally ascendes to ghost-duet levels "Ohhhooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!ooooooo-"

(Idk if i did that right?)
Hamlet is a sequel.
for @fraterrisus, but all may enjoy
I. the other day i was thinking about the characters in Hamlet, as you do, and i got around to Gertrude and Claudius, and I was like, huh. y'know i never noticed this before, but Claudius didn't actually have to marry Gertrude. he was King Hamlet's brother; he was in line for the throne either way. and Gertrude certainly didn't have to marry Claudius, since she's the prince's mother. they have to keep her in the palace. so... why?
well, why do people usually get married? because they're in love, right?
Okay first of all I love this.
But I have one counterpoint, which is my favorite question about the text: You say that Gertrude and Claudius do everything they can to cheer him up, but there's one thing they don't do, and in my eyes it is the fatal flaw that sets the rest of the plot in motion:
... For your intent In going back to school in Wittenberg, It is most retrograde to our desire,
Hamlet asked for permission to go back to school where his friends are, and the King said no. Gertrude pleads with him to stay, and of course Hamlet agrees.
I get why this exchange happens, but man... You've got a kid under your roof who's clearly fucked up about what-all is going on, you're concerned that he might be a danger to himself and to others, he ASKED YOU FOR SOMETHING HE WANTED (which conveniently gets him out of harm's way, something Claudius is desperate to do later on) AND YOU SAID NO.
If they love him so much, why not grant him the one positive thing he's probably ever asked for?
Oh yeah, exactly. EXACTLY. That's the detail that brings it all home, to me.
Because why make him stay? Why, if you've just evilly murdered his dad for evil reasons? Surely the best thing to do is send him away. Surely that's best even if you murdered his dad for good reasons.
It's because Claudius and Gertrude still think they're in the happy ending.
What's supposed to happen, for them, is they get a family. Maybe it's awkward and sad for a while. Maybe it takes some adjustments. But fundamentally Hamlet understands why they did what they did and loves his mom and uncle and he comes around. So they want to explain. They want to have him come over for an awkward dinner. They want him to love them.
But you know, I think this is sort of the point of writing the sequel out, isn't it? Because no matter what story they tell themselves or what they do next, they still killed him. That's a fact. And even the worst villain may still be human to someone, and worth grieving. So maybe this was never going to end well.
You don't really know what story you're in until the end, do you?

Notes on this post are genuinely incredible
One fun thing about learning new languages is reconsidering the structure of words and language in your mother tongue. It seems with each new language I study, I get more little insights into English, either in how it's similar or how it's different.
For example, a couple years ago, while learning Spanish, I encountered the word for a store, "la tienda." I thought "huh, that's a lot like tener (tiene) - the word for store in Spanish literally corresponds to 'to have/keep'. How interesting!"
Then I stopped for a moment, and for the first time in my life, thought about seriously about the meaning of English word for the place where you buy things, "a store."
“Please. Let him go”
for @merlinbingo prompt M3 : “Caerleon”
Agreed — plus canonically this is after the episode deleted scene where Arthur gives Merlin his mothers sigil so let’s be honest, they are a married couple 😭😅

I’d love to see a version of Julius Caesar where he takes the beware the Ides of March warning seriously like “oh shit. good heads up man thanks” and he goes into it with his own knife. He calms down a bit when he see’s all his best friends like “yea, the squad is here and everyone is strapped. nice”
I don’t know why this is making me laugh so hard
